Hello awesome friends and welcome back! Today, I’m redoing this drum table that has been sitting in my booth for well over a year now:
I redid this table a few years ago, and my Mom claimed it right away for her home. When I picked up a smaller drum table a couple of years ago, she wanted that one instead because it fit her space better, so she gave this one back to me. I took it to my booth as is.
It has just been sitting there taking up space for what seems like forever.
You can barely see it in this photo from my last booth update:
When I mentioned that it’s probably the piece that has been in my booth the longest at the moment, one of my smart readers, Sharon, suggested I paint it to match the dresser I had in there.
I never even thought of that, but I loved the idea! I’ve included a few affiliate links so you can find the products I love.
This is the dresser she was referring to, the only dresser I have in there at the moment:
So, on the next visit to my booth, I brought home the drum table and gave it a fresh coat of Fluff to match the dresser.
Then I pulled out what was left of the Rose Celebration transfer I used on the dresser:
Remember I used part of it on this basket also?
So what I had left wasn’t much.
I had wanted to add a bit of it on the top and cascade it down the front of the drawer, but I really only had enough to do the drawer…
But I think it was just enough!
I’m always amazed at what a fresh coat of paint can do, but those transfers work miracles too!
Because this was a creamy color underneath, if I sanded, the creamy color would show through. Chalk paint does require the slightest amount of sanding to make it buttery smooth, so I did very lightly sand it all over with 220 grit sandpaper, but I tried to not hit the edges too hard.
Then, I went back with this trick for cheating the distressing using my distressing block and Coffee Bean paint:
It looks like I sanded those areas to reveal the wood beneath, right?
As I was working on this, I got a call from the Antique Mall where I have my booth. Someone was asking how much I would be willing to discount the dresser for. Wouldn’t it be something if I redid this table to match the dresser and the dresser sold before this could make it back to my booth? The dresser did not sell though, so I’m excited to match these two up.
I painted the pull with the same Rustoleum Champagne mist spray that I used on the dresser pulls…
I sealed everything in Clear Coat in satin with one coat on the legs and two coats on top using the blue sponge applicator.
You can see how I apply sealer using the blue sponge in this video:

I hope y’all enjoyed this simple update today!
And thank you, Sharon, for the great idea!
Remember I mentioned that I was working on a much-needed room-redo during my week off?
Well, it was our laundry room and I’ll be back to share it on Tuesday:
Have a fantastic weekend and stay safe out there!

This table is so beautiful! I’d buy it in a heartbeat, if I didn’t live so far away!
Christy says
Aww thank you, Maryellen, and I would sell it to you in a heartbeat ha ha! XOXO
Mary Kaiser says
I love it, it looks so much fresher with the brighter paint, transfer makes it seem so cheery as well. I hear wedding bells in your booth, I think you are going to a marriage between the dresser and the table. Lovely! Oh how fun, can wait to see what room you redid!
Christy says
Thank you, Mary! And yes…cue the wedding march lol! XOXO
Susan Egyud says
Lovely! Did this piece have a previous finish on it that you had to remove before you repainted it? Or did you just jump right into painting?
Christy says
Thank you, Susan! This piece was painted in chalk paint previously, so I just painted right over it. XOXO
Cheryl Atkinson says
Hi Christy! I am surprised that dresser is still there. I bet once you put the sweet table in there so.eone will buy both. I love Rose Celebration
Christy says
I am a bit surprised also as my transfer pieces usually sell pretty quickly. Hopefully, adding a matching table will help. I love Rose Celebration too! XOXO
Kelly says
Beautiful job! I have a question – I am buying a fixer upper and the kitchen cabinets need painted and new hardware. Can I use chalk paint on the cabinets? Or, do I need to use a paint made for kitchen cabinets? I am going for a farmhouse look and am thinking of basic white or a soft Gray. Your thoughts? Thank you very much and have a terrific day!
Christy says
Thank you, Kelly! I personally have not tried chalk paint on cabinets as I went the traditional latex paint route with my own, but many in our Dixie Belle Retailer FB group have with much success, using the Gator Hide to topcoat since it is water repellent. XOXO
Janice Holt says
The table looks so pretty and I do like it better. I bet it sells quickly now. The dresser would be pretty in a dining room with the table and a big mirror over the dresser. I’ve used a dresser in my dining room before and the drawer space is so nice to store linens in. Good luck on selling it.
Christy says
Thank you, Janice! What a fantastic idea to use this in a dining room as a buffet! I love that! XOXO
Christina says
Christy, this is the perfect refresh! Great suggestion Sharon! Love the delicate touch of the transfer on the front of the drawer. Wouldn’t it be cool if the two sold together? They would look so good in a room.
Create on!!
Christy says
Thank you, Christina! I would love for them to sell together! Funny that most pieces that I do as a set do not, but here’s hoping! XOXO
Sandra says
I LOVE your use of transfers! It totally makes a piece so desirable, so super cute. Your booth should be here in Ky, much nicer than most I’ve seen. Thanks for all you create, your blog is inspiring.
Christy says
Thank you so much, Sandra! I appreciate that! XOXO
Denise Cox says
It’s cute as a button… 😊!!!
Christy says
Thank you, Denise! XOXO
Deanna Casto says
Thank you!!!! I needed some inspiration today! Love your work as usual. Getting to work in a sec!
Christy says
Aww yay! I’m so glad you enjoyed this one! Thank you, Deanna! XOXO
Toby Peplow says
LOVE It! You have me wanting to try a transfer SO bad!! I must find one that I like and give it a shot!! 🙂 Have a great day!
Christy says
Thank you, Toby! You definitely need to try them…they really are such an easy way to enhance any project! XOXO
Sue H Mellette says
When I saw the before table, I thought I have one similar. It is a dark brown and ugly! I am inspired to give my table a try. I love the transfer on the drawer and the slight distressing you did. You always pay attention to each and every detail! I am curious, did you do anything different with the inside of the drawer? I do hope the combination of the table and the dresser will sell quickly for you! The dresser is one of my favorites! Thanks for sharing. Have a wonderful weekend. Can’t wait to see Tuesday’s post!!
Christy says
Thank you so much, Sue! I totally forgot to share the inside of the drawer lol! I didn’t have a pretty coordinating fabric or paper that matched, so I just painted it. Maybe I’ll take a pic of it to share before I take it to my booth! I hope the set sells quickly too now! Enjoy your weekend also! XOXO
Donna says
The white paint really freshens it up and the transfer is a nice add to it. Love the look and makes a great part of a set.
Christy says
Thank you, Donna! I didn’t realize how sad it looked before until I gave it a fresh new coat of paint! XOXO
Janina says
Amazing what a POP! just that little bit of transfer gives this table! Lovely!
Christy says
Thank you, Janina! It did wonders for sure! XOXO
Mary Ellen says
What a beautiful job you did. It is amazing what a fresh coat of paint can do. And that transfer adds just the right pop of color. I agree with others that the dresser and table will sell together now. Please keep us posted. I was wondering what the little white flowers in the pitcher are, if you don’t mind sharing.
Christy says
Thank you, Mary Ellen! Paint does wonders for sure, and I hope they sell as a set too. I will keep ya’ll posted! The white flowers are fakies from Michaels, so I’m not sure, but they appear to be miniature roses of some sort. 🙂 XOXO
christine says
Both pieces are wonderful! do have a question – when do you use a wax sealer vs this sealer?
Love all your projects and wished i lived closer to be able to visit your booth!
Christy says
Thank you, Christine! You can use either sealer interchangeably, however, the clear coat is just easier to apply than the wax, so that is what I reach for most often these days. I wish you were closer too! XOXO
Cecilia from Georgia says
You have gotten the mileage out of that set of transfers!! They really are lovely used on anything. I hope the interested customer returns and has to have both pieces!! Love how it turned out. Looking forward to the room makeover!
Christy says
I sure have, right?? That was $40 well spent lol! And I agree…they add such a pretty detail to just about anything. I’d love to see that customer come back…hoping to drop off the table tomorrow! See ya Tuesday…enjoy your weekend!! XOXO
Val says
Hi Christy! umbelievable what a coat of painting AND a transfer leftover can do! I ordered some transfers online, i just received them and i´m really looking forward to using them! Love your blog. Val
Christy says
I know, right? Thank you!! Have fun playing with your transfers…they are addictive ha ha! XOXO
Shirley Lange says
Christy, that dresser is b-u-t-FUL…..Why it is still sitting in your booth is a mystery to us all. Maybe the drum 🥁 table as a companion will be the key 🔑 to the mystery. Please, please, don’ lose heart ❤️ and alter it in any way. The lady is out there, waiting to wander into your booth and fall in love.
Christy says
Thank you so much, Shirley! My business is usually slow up through the holiday and picks up in January, so hopefully, it will sell soon! And yes, maybe painting the table to match will be what seals the deal!! Here’s hoping! XOXO
Rose Lefebvre says
So lovely! I seem to love 95% of your projects.
Christy says
What? Only 95%? Ha ha! Thank you so much, Rose!! Have a great weekend! XOXO
Michele M. says
OMG! I absolutely love this! (Great idea, Sharon, so awesome a suggestion!) It looks absolutely FABULOUS!
Christy says
Thank you, Michele! I’m so glad I took Sharon’s advice! XOXO
Sharon Austin says
Oooh, I love it…just like the dresser it’s so light and airy and romantic. Maybe they will sell now; maybe to the caller that was looking at the dresser?! I can totally see them in a bedroom (mine! lol) with long flown curtains and a coordinating duvet or quilt. (Not sure if my first comment got lost in cyberspace somewhere but if you get two of them from me, that’s why). Super excited you liked the idea too. 🙂
Christy says
Thank you, Sharon, and thank you for the idea! I think they will make a lovely pair now! I’m so glad I followed your suggestion! XOXO
Sharon Austin says
Good luck, keep us posted!! Idk what flown curtains are, I meant flowing, lol!!
Christy says
Ha ha…maybe you just invented something?? Thanks, my friend…I will! 🙂
Michele says
I love this fresh look of the white paint with the pretty transfer. It does look great with the dresser. You are so very talented. I love seeing your finds and what you do with them to make them come to life again! I wish I was nearly as good at painting and re-finishing like you and Nancy are!! Keep giving us the great inspiration!! Love it!
Christy says
Thank you! I love the two as a set now. And don’t be so hard on yourself, we have had a lot of practice painting! XOXO
Christine says
I love the new look you gave the drum table, and that transfer!!! Did it sell?
Christy says
Thank you, Christine! The dresser has sold, but not the drum table…go figure ha ha! XOXO
