Happy Thursday, awesome friends!
Today I’m sharing a dressing table that I originally painted way back in 2013. It was in our old master bedroom, but no longer has a home here at our new house. I decided to freshen it up a bit and send it to the shop, but first I took some pretty new photos to reshare it!
Here it is before:
I know it looks pretty here, but in person it just felt dated. I love pretty much anything French provincial though!
I found it at an estate sale where everything was quite pricey, that is until you entered the garage. It seems maybe the fellas were in charge of pricing what was in the garage because this was supa cheap at only $35! My Mom also found a beautiful table out there for only $20! I’ve included a few affiliate links so you can find the products I use.
I decided on a classic black and white look for this dressing table:
In the original makeover, I left the drawers pulls as is, but I decided to spray paint them white this time. I used Rustoleum’s spray primer first, then Rustoleum spray paint in Satin White.
I love the contrast of the black and white. You could barely see them before.
The white I used for this is Annie Sloan’s Pure White and the black is actually a very dark charcoal gray called Graphite, also by Annie Sloan. This was before I made my own chalk paint.
The sides got a little surprise stripe treatment:
The sides are actually the same color, but the light is making them appear much lighter. I taped them off using FrogTape for delicate surfaces.
My little white chair I shared not too long ago with the antique desk, looks cute with it.
The drawers are lined with this pretty contact paper I found at TJ Maxx…
The center of this dressing table opens up to reveal a mirror and a great storage area:
Perfect to store makeup, jewelry, chocolate. It has the same liner as the drawers…
I gave the top a fresh coat of paint and a new coat of wax to get it ready to sell, but it was actually in pretty good shape already. The drawers got a fresh coat of wax as well to freshen them up.
I love this piece, but I just no longer have a space for it at our new house, so it’s off to the shop!

I love how this turned out. Black or should I say dark gray and white are a classic.

Hey, I had a 3-piece French provincial bedroom set (full bed frame-legs&headboard), triple dresser w/large mirror, & dressing table by Drexel from 1963-2007. It came painted a greyish-white with a beaded trim in rubbed gold & same white hardware. I had wanted to strip it down to natural wood (I refinished other chests back then) but after talking to Drexel it couldn’t be done because of different woods that were used & they couldn’t tell me which species. No such thing as DIY paint back then. Donated it to a women’s shelter still in FABULOUS condition. Would have been a dream project today…. Looked just like yours. Terrific job, by-the-way

Oh no!! I know you would love to have that set now! I sold a gorgeous dining room table at a yard sale for $30 because the top had become pretty scratched in storage and I had no thoughts of painting back then. Kick myself over that one too! XOXO

I love the black contrast and of course your signature stripes. If this were mine (and I wish it was) I would use it as a desk and heck ya would that mirrored storage be holding chocolate, Lindt Easter Bunnies just for moi. Wishing you and yours a very Happy Easter, Christy!
Christy says
Thanks, Marie! This might have been the first piece I added stripes too! And yes all the chocolate ha ha! Happy Easter, my friend! XOXO

This came out amazing. Love these colors together and the paper in the drawers is the right finishing touch 🙂
Christy says
Thank you, Rebecca! So glad you enjoyed this one! XOXO

Oh, Christy, that is so beautiful! I love it! When I’m out thrifting I see furniture and I think Christy would love that! Unfortunately, at this time, I can’t take anything like that unless I plan on using it. Soon, maybe that will change. I did sell a suitcase on Etsy that I painted for $95. I don’t know what you sell yours for, but I think that is a little high. I know Etsy is different than most selling venues. It went to a photo shoot in NYC. How cool is that!
Christy says
Thank you, MaryJean! Ha ha funny that you think of me…I don’t know how I would keep going if I didn’t have a booth to unload all of my makeovers! Great money for that suitcase yay! And a photo shoot in NYC sounds very exciting! Hope you have a blessed Easter! XOXO
