Owl Figurine Refresh

March Madness: 31 Days of Thrifty Makeovers

Hi my sweet friends and welcome to makeover day #17! I gave you a BIG reveal yesterday, but today I’ll be sharing a tiny one! This was a simple makeover that anyone can do!

This past summer, I happened upon the yard sale of the biggest owl collector there ever was. Seriously I’ve never seen so many owls amassed in one location. One of the owls spoke to me. Well not really, that would be creepy! But I just had to bring this little guy home with me…for all of 10¢.

Look at those sweet big eyes! Isn’t he a cutie?

I ended up sticking him in the garage. Then one day while I was trying to organize out there (a never-ending battle!), I found him again. I was also spray painting hardware at the same time and decided why not spray him too!

Peekaboo!  Okay I do miss the sad eyes a tiny bit, but now he’s updated and bright!

I originally painted him in satin since that’s what I was using on the knobs I was painting, but ended up going over it with gloss.

He’s still cute, right?

You might have seen him on the bottom shelf of this server I shared recently.

I dry-brushed white over it to add depth and give it a bit of a wash feel. Then I sanded the raised areas. I love the look of it.

I’m pretty sure he didn’t mind being spray-painted because now he gets to live in the house.

I kind of wish I had bought a few more of those owls now. They would be fun all painted and lined up on a shelf or a window ledge.

This may have been a tiny makeover, but it made a big difference!

Don’t be grabbing all of Grandma’s figurines now!

I’ll be back tomorrow sharing the simple way I chose to update this table:
