Where We go to Get Away from it All

We live a little over a mile from the ocean. Living in our neighborhood is a blessing...and a curse. It's close enough, but just far enough away from all the hustle. Being able to ride our bikes to the beach or walk to the water park is awesome. Plus we really love our close-knit community. But to own a home here, we've had to settle on a few things. Our lot is teeny tiny and we can almost reach out and touch our neighbors. (Good thing our neighbors are awesome!)  Our street backs right up … [Read more...]

My Fairy Garden

Although I can build a gate (Like how I worked that in? Really you should check it out if you haven't already), I am a girly girl at heart. Growing up, I always loved playing with my barbies and setting up the house; rearranging the furniture. I think God knew what he was doing when he gave me boys though, because I would not be very good at sharing my barbies! (I'm serious.) Growing up, I had my favorite. She had longer hair than normal (that's probably why she was my favorite, I had Dorothy … [Read more...]

My $20 Yard Sale Table

I was out with my babies last Saturday yard saling and as I was perusing one particular yard sale, my eyes came upon something unbelievable.  It was this: Which was attached to this:   $20?? Really? I had another moment of, "I don't want to walk away, because someone else might grab it!" You've felt that before too, I'm sure. I took it up to the ladies and quickly paid and just about bolted to my car with it before they changed their minds. And now it looks like … [Read more...]

Is This how Hoarding Starts?

I live in a three bedroom home with my husband and two sons, ages two and ten.  There is no room for me to house my treasured finds and upcycles-in-waiting let alone a place to actually create. This is my craft room: It looks an awfully lot like a kitchen, no? What I love though, is this big island. It's usually got a bunch of junk on it that I have to move to the right so I can work, but it leaves me with a good 3' X 4' of workspace. I also love that I don't have to bend over to … [Read more...]

From Old Picture to Pretty Tray

I have another easy picture frame project to share today. Do you have that one thing you look for when you're junkin", yard salin', or thriftin'? For me, it's frames. I surely do not need them. It's just that there are so many things you can do with a simple picture frame. So I always keep my eyes open. I gave this one a new life as a pretty tray:   There are so many uses for a cute lil' tray, right?  Here, I'm offering you sugar and starfish. What??  (Just go with it and think, … [Read more...]

How a Girl Built a Gate

It's true! I built our gate all by myself.  I've been asked several questions about my gate, so I thought I would share how I made it. My husband and I had just finished building the fence. (I give him credit for all the labor-intensive work there. I just held fence pickets.)  Unfortunately, we weren't able to get the gate built before our weekend was over. My husband is very busy with work during the summer and I was growing a bit impatient. I really wanted to get going on our gate. We … [Read more...]

Plain Old Box gets a Harlequin Twist (& a How-to!)

Hello friends!  I have another simple painted project for you today.  Don't you just love a good before and after?  How about we do a good after and before?  ...As in this awfully cute chest: Here it is before: Many of you may know what kind of chest this is...   Were you right? It's a flatware chest!! I know you all want to go dump out your granny's silver so you can have one of your very own! Although I do generally love a touch of purple velvet now and … [Read more...]

The Easiest Way to Water Your Garden

I recently shared a very detailed post on how to create a landscape from scratch.  I wanted to talk about watering your garden in a separate post so I could go into a bit more detail. I can't stress how important it is to provide your garden with the water it needs to stay healthy. We are all guilty of purchasing plants or flowers in a feel good moment the minute warm weather declares  it's here to stay, only to neglect them once the real heat rolls in...when they need us the most. My … [Read more...]

New Life for Outdated Frames

You see, I have this problem. It's with my car, actually. Every Monday, after my cleaning is done (Monday is my cleaning day), I sit and make a quick menu of what we are going to eat for the week. Then I make a list of what I need to buy and head to the grocery store. But instead of heading right to the grocery store, my doggone car keeps taking a detour into the Food Lion parking lot (this is not the grocery store I am aiming for)...which just happens to have a Good Will next … [Read more...]

How to Create a Landscape from Scratch

I have really enjoyed sharing my landscaping makeovers and hearing all of the awesome feedback. It was a lot of hard work that is really paying off.  I love my outdoor space. I have been asked several questions about my makeovers with the most frequent one being, "How did I know what plants to buy?" First I am going to share with you how I came up with my landscape plan and the work that went into creating my planting beds.  After all, you can't plant anything until the beds are ready, … [Read more...]
