Hello, dear friends! After spending way too much time on Tuesdays jewelry box makeover, I’m back today with a smaller project, a painted lamp from the thrift store that is part my current haul and one more piece!
I love to keep small lamps in my booth for extra lighting, so I pick them up when I find a good deal on them.
I picked up these two a while back for $10 for both:
I ended up using the one on the right with my Halloween display and it got packed away, so that leaves this one:
I love the pretty details on the feet!
This one came sans shade, but wait until you see the shade I have to go with it!
Clean
Of course, I cleaned first. It is important to get any gunk out of the grooves so it doesn’t come through your paint.
Paint
For this lamp, I chose this gorgeous Antebellum Blue:
The full head on the Belle Brush does a fantastic job of getting into those details.
It covered great in one coat, but I gave it two, and once the paint was dry, I lightly sanded with a sanding sponge to get a buttery smooth finish.
And here is a peek at the shade:
I found this shade at least two years ago, maybe longer! It was attached to a lamp that I found at the thrift store, but I chose not to use the shade with it at that time.
I’ve been patiently waiting for a lamp to use it with. How perfect is it that it is a perfect match to Antebellum Blue??
That also begs the question…why didn’t I just paint that original lamp this color?
Who knows why I do what I do ha ha!
Accentuate the details
I knew I wanted to accentuate those pretty feet, so out came the gold gilding wax:
I feel like this is a must-have in your toolkit. This is a teeny tiny jar, but it will last for ages!
Using an old stencil brush that I wiped most of the gilding wax back off of, I hit all those pretty feet:
Seal
To seal, I used Easy Peasy spray wax…just spray and buff! Be sure to shake it until you no longer hear the liquid inside and then spray.
I normally would have sealed before applying the gilding wax, but it did fine.
The After
Here is how this forgotten thrift store lamp looks now!
I couldn’t have matched the shade more perfectly if I had painted it myself!
I only highlighted a couple of areas…
The feet are my favorite (in case you couldn’t tell)…
This lamp didn’t come with a harp or finial either, and I was out of the finials I buy on Amazon, so I went ahead and took my photos without it.
Then, I remembered that I had just picked up a pair of buffet lamps, and one of them was also missing the finial. So, I nabbed the remaining one off the other lamp, painted it, and the style could not have been a more prefect match to this lamp!
Here’s a quick pic I snapped with my phone to share. That worked out perfectly!
Can you tell I took the rest of these photos while I still had my setup out from photographing Tuesday’s jewelry box?
I love redoing lamps, and let’s hear it for a quick project!
How about another small makeover today?
I picked this small decorative box up at the thrift store back in the fall for $4:
I decided to hit this piece with Antebellum Blue too!
Two coats, and then gilding wax to highlight here too. I used my finger this time:
This too was sealed with Easy Peasy spray wax, and this mini makeover was complete!
The inside was already this lovely shade of gold…
Another quick and easy makeover and one more thing to add to my booth!
I usually share these smaller pieces in groups of six as part of my Painting the Smalls series, but not today.
If you enjoyed these pieces, here is another you may enjoy:
See what I did with this dated damsel HERE.
And if you love the smalls, here are 30 more I shared recently!

Another block crossed off woohoo!
I’ll be back with this box thingy on Tuesday!
UPDATE: It’s done and it’s so cute now! See it HERE!
Have an amazing weekend, and if you are being blasted by wintry weather, stay warm!!

Oh that color is so beautiful with the gold! You saved that shade just for this projects! Don’t try to explain why you saved the shade, you do what you do because you are the BEST! By doing what you do, it makes you the QUEEN!! I love the makeovers. I bet someone will buy both of those pieces together out of your booth!
Christy says
Thank you, Mary! You totally get me ha ha! I’m so glad it worked out this time, and I hope they do sell together…that would be awesome! Have an amazing weekend and stay warm up there!!
Janet says
I kept waiting for a surprise transfer…ok, not on the lamp, maybe on the box..no.. was the page hacked? Was Christy nabbed by aliens?
No, her brilliant and creative mind scored TWICE in other directions!
Thank you for showcasing that color; it shows how nicely a bold color can be used.
Christy says
Ha ha…you know how much I love transfers, but not today! So funny! Thank you, Janet!! XOXO
Carla says

What a gorgeous lamp. and shade and you would never know they didn’t come together. Beautiful color and the gilding wax looks perfect on it. Bet the lamp and little box will sell together. Another great job. We’re still snowed in; it started Sun night and the temps won’t allow it to melt. I’m so ready for Spring.
Christy says
Thank you so much, Janice! I couldn’t believe how well they matched! Oh no…I hope you can get out soon! XOXO

Oh my word, that’s beautiful! What a gorgeous paint color. And you had the perfect shade for it??? It is kismet or serendipity or whatever! I love both the lamp and little decor box.
Christy says
Thank you, my friend! Yes, how awesome that the shade worked out so perfectly, and it is no longer taking up space here ha ha! Have a wonderful weekend! XOXO
Addie says
mmmm….I thought for sure you were going to put a decal, perhaps a Frenchie one, on the lamp shade. Maybe in gold? White?
Boy, that color is a perfect match to the shade…you couldn’t have planned that better even if you tried!!!
Have a great weekend…stay warm…God Bless!!! xoxo
Christy says
Thank you, Addie! I wanted to use gold lettering on the shade, but the shade would need to be the same size around on top and bottom for a transfer to work or it can be skewed. It would have looked so pretty with some gold lettering! And yes, what a great match, right? You stay warm too!! XOXO
Addie says
YES!!!! I am freezing my buns off!!! I live in the northern mountains of Arizona…we have left over snow and COLD wind. …AD
Christy says
Oh no!! Hoping you get a warm up soon!!
Gloria Wyssbrod says

Can’t wait for your opinion on it.
Christy says
Thank you, Gloria! I was just able to order it this week, so I have not tried it yet…I can’t wait! I’ll be sure to let y’all know when I do! XOXO

Aww thank you so much, Patricia!! XOXO

I always love seeing what you do to lamps and this didn’t disappoint – a neat colour to use and that shade was well worth saving 🙂 Also…I must say how ugly that little container was until you painted it – gosh the power of paint – it looks like a completely different piece – and perfect that the inside was gold 🙂 xo
Christy says
Aww thank you so much, Petra! I’m so glad I could finally use that shade! Ha ha that little box was ugly for sure. Have a fantastic weekend! XOXO
Cecilia says
Such a pretty shade of blue and a perfect match for the shade! Both projects look great! Glade you had some easy makeovers after the more challenging jewelry box.
😊Cecilia
Christy says
Thank you, Cecilia! Yes, it was nice to have a couple of easy ones lol. XOXO
Bonnie says
Hi girl, been a couple weeks since I been on here as I have been sick.
Anyway, that color is so pretty and the lamp/lampshade were made for each other. I have lamps and shades everywhere. Ones I use and ones to fix. I am obsessed with them like chairs and baskets lol.
I picked up this long tin box that has those feet and that is what sold me on it.
Another great save Hugs
Bonnie
Christy says
Thank you, Bonnie! I’m glad you are feeling better. I am always dragging home lamps too lol! It’s always a good day when I can match them to shades I already have at home! XOXO
Corrine Brzys says
That blue is gorgeous. And I can’t believe how awesomely perfect that shade works with the lamp. I also love the little decorative piece. Fabulous dash of colour!

Cory
Christy says
Thank you, Cory! I don’t use many darker colors, but this is one I love, and how lucky was it that the shade matched so perfectly? It was meant to be! XOXO
