Hello, amazing friends! I’m back today with the final piece of my yard sale rescue pile!
I picked up this basket at the thrift store so long ago that I don’t even recall which one I found it at, or how much I paid for it:
I’m sure it wasn’t much because I’m cheap like that. I know I bought it while we were still at our last house, so that is at least two years ago!
It’s been hanging around so long that I decided I would put it out at our yard sale for a dollar just to get it out of the house…
No takers!
We donated most of what was left at the end of the day, but I decided to keep this and finally redo it. It really is a great shape and size. I’ve included a few affiliate links so you can find the products I love.
And here’s how it looks after a little love:
It’s perfect for holding a few spare rolls of TP!
I was channeling a wooden buoy when I was dreaming up what I wanted to do with this basket, so I knew I wanted to add some sort of stripe and numbers.
Heh heh…No 2…on a basket holding toilet paper.
To get started on this simple makeover, I used my shop vac to remove any dust that had settled in the weave.
Then I brought out my small spray shelter and spray primed it first using Rustoleum primer:
I sprayed it upside down first, then right-side-up.
You could just spray prime and be done with it as I often do with baskets, but I decided to go ahead and spray paint over the primer for a little sheen using Rustoleum’s Satin White spray paint. Always prime first so your finish doesn’t flake off over time.
I used FrogTape and a brush to add the stripe:
The color I used is Vintage Duck Egg blue that I had mixed 50/50 with Cotton for my Summer sign I shared last week. I gave it one good coat and removed the tape right after painting.
Then I used this stencil, Hurricane Gray by Dixie Belle, and a small brush to add the “No 2″…
I really just used the stencil as a guide and then went back with a small brush and touched everything up to make the lines more crisp.
I gave the surface a quick sanding with 220 grit sandpaper and called it a day.
Ok now let me show you what I really did first:
I tried vertical stripes, but it just wasn’t working with the weave of the basket. Plus I wasn’t sure at that point how I would add numbers to it like I wanted. That’s when I decided to add just one horizontal stripe around the rest of it!
Much better! Those vertical stripes are still at the back. See? If you don’t like how it’s going, change directions. I do it ALL the time! 🙂
This is in our downstairs guest bathroom. You can see the makeover of this space HERE if you missed it!
Remember that shelf? It was the top to a wooden rocker I pulled out of our old neighbor’s garbage.
See that makeover HERE. It was a true Trash-to-Treasure!
Ya’ll never thought I would use our toilet for staging, did you? 😀
If you liked this makeover you might like this one too:
See what I did with it HERE!
That one still holds our TP in that bathroom, but now I’m thinking I like this one better! And to think I was going to let it go for a dollar??
And that is the final piece in this group crossed off yay!
If you missed any of these makeovers, you can visit them all here:
I have a few things gathered for my next haul, but I need a few more. I’m hoping the weather holds up so I can hit up some yard sales on Saturday!
I’ll be back on Tuesday sharing what I found and this table that used to belong to my Hubby’s Grandma:
UPDATE: See how fresh and Summery this table looks now HERE!
Have a great weekend!
XOXO,

I’m surprised you didn’t do this sooner!
I have a question about your spray shelter, I would think it would have more paint on the inside walls. Or do you have different ones for different colors? It always surprises me by how clean they are.
Christy says
I know, right? Grouping these items together has been so great for getting pieces out of the house! As for my shelter, not a silly question at all with an easy answer…I almost always use white, either white paint or primer when I spray paint with the occasional Robin’s egg blue in the mix…so it stays pretty clean looking. This is the second one I’ve owned though and this is the newer of the two! XOXO

Good Morning. You are such a hoot! I love reading your posts!!! If we were neighbors, I could see us being best friends. Unfortunately, you live half way across the country. Have a wonderful weekend. Thanks for being one of my online friends.
Christy says
Aww I’m glad that gave you a laugh, Mikki! My neighbors aren’t into thrifting/junking/repurposing at all, so it would be nice to have someone close to me to get into trouble with lol! XOXO

Now this one I need and like!!!! Handy. Nothing like getting caught walking with your pants down to the cabinet for a new roll!!!! I am doing this one!!!
Hey, is that lady with the white out eyes…in the witness protection!!!! hahahaha
I also got a kick out of you using tablecloths for your garage sale!!! Was this an upper crust sale? hahahah
Have a good weekend…..me sad…my Warriors gave a galant try last night…but no go with 2 stars down.
Addie-Bug xoxo
Christy says
Yay! And ha ha…walking with your pants down…I think we’ve all been there before! You need to make one of these!! I don’t know the rules about sharing people in photos without their permission, but that did remind me of when you used to see people in magazines and they were showing you a “fashion don’t” and they did that with their eyes ha ha. We get all fancy around here…tablecloths and all! Sorry about your Warriors…they had a good run! XOXO
Addie says
Hey….the Warriors are done yet….that was only game #3 of finals…..we are coming back strong to take this title!!!
A devoted fan!!!!

They don’t know how lucky they are to have you in their corner!! 😀

You do a lot of truly great work. Very talented. That being said, you might want to rethink putting a basket marked “No 2” on top of the toilet. Someone with a warped sense of humor might be too tempted. Wait…..did you do that because YOU have a warped sense of humor?
Christy says
Thank you, PJ! Ha ha oh my…I would die lol! XOXO
Cheryl Atkinson says
Christy, you have a great sense of humor. At first i didn’t get the No. 2. I love baskets. I am always picking up a good basket at the thrift store and thanks to your creative ideas i am going to start painting them. I went to Goodwill on my lunch hour today and you know what i found? A wooden Munising Dough Bowl. I thought about taking it home and after cleaning to see if the stain comes off the bottom (i think all wooden bowls have a little stain) maybe i could use a gel stain. What do you think?
Christy says
Thank you, Cheryl! It was fun to be a bit silly with this one! I love painted baskets! And wow what a great find…I think you could probably get it looking good with just some hemp oil. XOXO
Kaycee says
Christy, This basket is so fun now, I love the whimsy the No. 2 adds!!
Christy says
Thanks, Kaycee! It gave me a good laugh lol! XOXO
