Happy New year, beautiful friends!! Can you believe I shared almost 100 brand new makeovers in 2019? That is a lot of makeovers, y’all!! On Tuesday I shared the Top 13 Furniture Makeovers of 2019 and today, I’m back with the top non-furniture makeovers from the past year!
I really did a ton of smaller items this year, which was fun for me, and I think many of you enjoyed seeing what these smaller pieces could become as well.
Here are your favorite 13!
13
Starting at number 13 is this $2 Thrift Store Flatware Box:
Ya’ll know I always pick these boxes up when I see them, especially when I find them this cheap! They are always great sellers for me.
This one got a sophisticated new look:
This is probably my favorite flatware box makeover to date.

Number 12 to make the list is Grandma’s Footboard Repurposed. I started with this footboard that belonged to my Hubby’s Grandma:
I had already painted and sold the headboard long ago, but the footboard wasn’t in great condition and had been repaired with glue numerous times. I decided to add it to my Storage Room Haul of Shame, just to finally get it out of there!
I ended up pairing it with a curbside shelf and a pair of brackets to make a cuter shelf:

I ended up keeping it and now it hangs above our bed.
Even though there is nothing on it or hanging from it!
11
At number 11 is this $6 rooster lamp that I just could not pass up:
I knew a coat of paint and a new shade would do wonders!
10
This next makeover is a favorite probably because there are so many of these silver trays floating around the thrift stores:
Paint silver? Why not? This one had the cutest feet:
9
At number nine is this $4 Vintage Suitcase I made over:
Black and white Buffalo check fabric made a cutie out of this one:
I love making over vintage suitcases, but I’ll admit, they are a tough sell. I don’t think people quite know what to do with them, but they do look cute in my booth. They are great for extra storage that you can keep right out in the open!
8
Taking the number eight spot in this countdown is this leaf that came off of a drop leaf table that I repurposed:
Pairing it with a set of corbels I found helped to turn it into a fantastic new shelf:
I love how this project turned out!
It was one of my favorites this year and I ended up keeping it. It’s still hanging in the same spot.
7
Coming in at number seven is this $10 Glass Cabinet Makeover:
It was a great deal at $10 and small cabinets usually sell well for me. This one got a whole lot prettier with some paint and pretty fabric:
6
Number six to make the list is this shelf I picked up years ago for $7:
The brackets holding the shelf up were so close together, and they were built into the shelf, so there was no way to adjust them, but a stencil helped fool the eye and make it work:

This was a great chance to try this beautiful Savannah Mist blue!
5
Number five in our countdown is the $2 Thrift Store Drawer Upcycle that was part of a set of four drawers that I found:
I paired it with a set of shelf brackets to make this cute shelf:

I now use it to hold printer paper above my printer!

The next makeover on the list is my DIY Faux-Etched Christmas Mirror that started out like this:
A stencil made with my Silhouette and some frosted glass spray turned this mirror into brand new Christmas decor!

I ended up keeping this one too, and several of you shared your own pieces you created similarly after seeing this post! I LOVE when y’all are inspired to create something beautiful!
3
Making the number three spot is the Ornate Shelf Makeover that was part of my Yard Sale Rescue Pile. It started out in this very bold blue:
I had painted it this color to match Brennan’s nursery. I was going to sell it at my yard sale but decided at the last minute to keep it.
It turned out really pretty with help of some Vintage Duck Egg Blue:
White wax and some dry brushing really helped to bring out all those pretty details:
2
At the number two spot are these two small Drawers Repurposed as Spring Arrangements:
I ended up cutting them down and turning them into sweet holders for pretty Spring florals:
I did them both a bit differently:

If you wanted to use real flowers, you could just drop a glass jar inside.
And I swapped the Spring florals for Holiday greenery for Christmas:
My Mom claimed the first one, but I kept this one for myself.

And your number one favorite non-furniture makeover of 2019 was a surprising one!
It was my How to Make Sweater Pumpkins from Sleeves tutorial!
In that post, I also shared this basket that I redid:
Ya’ll may remember I used a lace curtain and spray paint to redo the top:
It’s hard to know if y’all enjoyed the basket or the pumpkins, but maybe both?
The pumpkins started out as these thrift store sweaters:
The sleeves became sweet pumpkins:

I shared a video how-to that went crazy on YouTube!
You can see that video below if you’re interested:
If you have trouble viewing, find it on YouTube HERE.
Either way, y’all gave this post a lot of love!
And that is your favorite top 13! Of course, there were a couple of my own favorites that didn’t quite make the list.
The first one was this $4 Thrift Store Tray Makeover:
I cut triangles of luan to create a quilt-inspired pattern for the bottom:
I just loved how that one turned out!
Another makeover I also enjoyed was this set of wooden bowls that started out like this:
I had fun playing with them:
I liked them so much that I used photos of them on my homepage when I redid my blog.
They really say Summer to me and I always like to think of my house’s season as Summer!
And of course, I kept them!
And finally, I really loved how this cabinet turned out:
It’s probably because it really looked so different after!

I am SO looking forward to a brand new year full of makeovers! Giving new life to thrifty treasures is my passion and I’m so excited to have y’all along for the ride!
But first, my sister’s kitchen is done woot woot! You may remember me mentioning that I was helping her to paint her kitchen cabinets. That was a chore!!
Her kitchen is done, but we are putting some finishing touches on the space, so I will be back here on Tuesday to remind y’all of what it looked like before and show you some of the hard work we did in there, and then I’ll be back on Thursday to reveal the whole kitchen and the updated kitchen island. We’ve been working on her kitchen table and chairs this week and they are almost done. I’ll have those to share the following week. Then, it’s time to bust out my next thrifty haul and get started!!
UPDATE: See how we tackled those pine cabinets HERE!
It’s going to be an amazing year!!
XOXO,
Don’t Miss a Thing!

Love, love, love everything. You are such an inspiration. I am always amazed how you take something that people would throw away and breathe beauty and new life into it! You get more done in one week than I accomplish in six months. I am so looking forward to seeing what you will do this year.
Christy says
Thank you so much, Phyllis! I promise I wouldn’t be as productive if I didn’t have this blog haha! Happy New Year! XOXO
Jaye says

Kathy Heibel says
Happy New year to You!
First off I have to say I am jealous of you for finding such good things at Thrift Stores. You seem to have the perfect location of people coming and going to get all those good deals! You give me inspiration to think outside of the box when I am thrifting.
I am wondering too, from a comment you made about your husband’s clothes, that he is military.
I live with a “lifer”, and I swear his favorite shoes are still his BOOTS!
He is retired now, but did 20 yrs in the Navy and Reserves. The transferred to the Army and was active in Iraq and Afghanistan. (Iraq paid for my kitchen makeover!!)
Thanks for all your videos of shopping. I wish my best friend shared this with me, as yours does.
All my best,
Kathy in Wyoming,Michigan
Christy says
Thank you, Kathy! I am SO lucky to have great thrift stores for sure. My husband is not military, but my Dad, and both my sisters and their husbands are in the Navy. Funny about the boots because my little sister loves hers too lol! And yes, my friend, Nancy, loves to thrift, but she lives kind of far away and nobody else I know loves thrifting like I do so I am usually on my own, however my sister got lucky recently at the thrift store, so I might be making a believer out of her! XOXO
Sandra says
I too love that rooster lamp, but I gotta tell you, your bedroom makeover ha me wanting to paint mine! We bought it in 1985 when we got married. As we enter a new chapter of our lives-hello retirement! I’m saving so many of your posts to my vision board for our new home. Where is your shop? We are looking forward to traveling and if I’m ever near, it will be a must stop!
Christy says
Thank you, Sandra! How fun it will be to redo your home when you have the time! My booth is in the Virginia Beach Antique Mall here in Virginia Beach. They have a ton of treasures to sift through if you’re ever in the area! XOXO
Terry Moore says
Well, you had my heart with that suitcase in black and white buffalo check because that’s my thing but all are equally as good and you inspired me with an old drawer up in my garage attic that I could cut down and make into a shelf! Thanks for that…
Christy says
Thank you, Terry! I put your box in the mail this morning, so you should get in on Tuesday! XOXO
Sheila DelCharco says
Love it all! I even kept some silver trays a friend was getting rid of because I loved what you did with yours. Mine, alas, are still “waiting” to be transformed! This month! I resolve it!
Christy says
Thank you, Sheila! Good job saving those trays…they will be beautiful painted! XOXO
ROSE LEFEBVRE says
I always love just about every project you do! You are so creative and talented.
Christy says
I appreciate that so much, Rose! Thank you!! XOXO
Laurie Elwell says
I love all of your white projects, but here’s the thing. I have a husband, who walks around with black fingers all day. I have black finger prints on my drapes with white background, black finger prints on my white refrigerator, and back fingerprints on the white shower curtain liner. If I had an all white scheme at my house, it would look really, really atrocious! Can you do some other colors for me, please? Or at least assure me that the black will easily come off of the paint? Thanks!
Christy says
Hi Laurie and thank you! If my husband was going around leaving black fingerprints on everything, he’d be in big trouble in my house! Using a lot of white is a look that I love and it doesn’t get dirty or show dirt as badly as you might think. To make it work in my house that I share with my husband, and two boys, 17, and 9 years old, I opted to whitewash the tops of my high-traffic pieces (kitchen table, coffee table) with a combination of stain and paint and just paint the bases white. Nobody really touches any of the other furniture. Our bedroom furniture is safe because people generally don’t hang out in the bedroom with dirty fingers. We keep all food in the kitchen, so I don’t even worry about my white slipcovers. And my painted furniture is easily wiped down. Most pieces come clean with furniture polish, and occasionally, I reach for the Clorox wipes. I hope that helps! XO
