Hi friends! I’ve got a sweet makeover to share with you today.
My mom and I went to an estate sale this Summer in an old house that was is in really bad disrepair, and looked like it hadn’t been updated since the day it was built. For real, y’all. You could have put up velvet ropes at the entrances to each room and called it a museum!
I’m not kidding.
It creeped my mom out, but I was fascinated and quickly scooped up two tables. This is one of those tables. I paid $30 for her and here is how she looked when I adopted her:
Looks like something that would have been perfect for serving drinks on in the front parlor, don’t you think?
And here is her big makeover:
I knew I would have a lot of bleed through, which is very common with mahogany, so I sealed it first with shellac using a foam brush. It goes on so easily and dries in minutes, so you can get right on with your painting.
I love the details in the legs. I just barely sanded them to highlight the curves. I wanted to keep this piece light and pretty.
This is another DIY chalk paint project. This close-up shows how smooth it is. I finished it off with Annie Sloan’s clear wax.
I used this method to transfer my letters for this beautiful french typography graphic from The Graphics Fairy. Then I painted my letters in with a script liner. I have yet to find a shortcut that I’m happy with, so hand-painting it is.
I painted this while watching the Redskins lose to the Vikings. It’s tough to be a fan sometimes.
After my graphic fiasco a couple of days ago with this dresser, I needed a do-over. I love the result.
The glass top is removable. I love this feature.
I wish I had a little sunroom or an office of my own. It would be perfect in either.
But, I’m afraid I don’t.
It might be ready for a trip to Paris, but it will be for sale at the Virginia Beach Christmas Market Thanksgiving weekend. If you’re close by that weekend, come visit and say hello!
Just a reminder that our Get Your DIY on Party starts Sunday at 7:00 EST and this week’s theme is Furniture Revivals. I think this might be my favorite theme yet. I love a good furniture makeover!
Thanks for stopping by, you guys are the best!

Lol thanks, Cindy! I SO want to keep this!!! Maybe if I price it really high, it won’t sell and then I’ll have to find a place for it!! Have a great weekend!! XO

Beautiful “makeover” and nice steady hand! I’ve had a similar glass top table (estate sale purchase) for almost a year and hadn’t decided what to do with it…until now! Thanks for the inspiration! I plan on keeping mine but you never know.
Have a great weekend!
Christy K. James says
Thanks, June! I really want to keep this now! I’m glad you feel inspired…have a great day! XO

I’m seriously in awe. I don’t have the eye to “see” what something can be transformed into, but happy others have that talent…like you!
Christy K. James says
Thanks, Patti! Sometimes I can see potential right away and at times I struggle with how I want to update a piece. The possibilities are limitless 🙂

I’m impressed with how steady your hand is when painting these letters in – not an easy feat! I understand you are going over a trace line but still!!
Christy K. James says
Thanks, Trisha! The right brush makes all the difference:)

This is such a darling little table! I love how you finished it (your hand scripting is blowing my mind!) and the details of the turned legs and those cute little metal claw feet are fabulous! I didn’t know you were near VA Beach! I’m about hours north, up in Leesburg, VA. Good luck with the show! Wish I could make it! Hugs, Leena

Yes, Leena…we’re not too far from each other! You are so sweet to me, thanks for your lovely comment! 🙂

I love anything French, and you did an amazing job! For some reason, I’m not getting your newest posts, even though I’m following–found this on the party. Anyway, I’m always impressed by your use of the paintbrush when lettering. I can only come close to this when I use paint pens!
Dee 🙂
Christy K. James says
Oh, I’m sorry you’re not getting my posts. You can subscribe through blog lovin. It combines all your favorite blog’s newest posts in one daily email. It’s funny that you say that about the paint pens because I just tried doing some writing with them and it was a disaster! I just couldn’t get the fine lines like I can with a brush. The right brush makes all the difference too! Your comments are always so sweet…thank you!!! 🙂
