With the Fourth of July just around the corner for us here in the U.S., some of my favorite blogger friends and I are sharing fun DIY projects to show off our patriotic pride!
I decided to make over a little Christmas birdhouse that I found for $2 at the thrift store a while back. I bought it when I was making a few Christmas arrangements, but it didn’t make the cut.
Here it is before:
It’s kind of pretty, but it has just been sitting in a bin in my garage.
Now with it’s red, white, and blue makeover, it has a home in my garden!
It is so vibrant and full of life now!
I decided to remove the top part so it wouldn’t be so tall.
I love the pop of color this patriotic birdhouse adds to my garden!
I was originally going to hang it, but decided to make a post for it instead:
Now how fun is that?
The post is a primed 1×2 I already had left from another project. I taped the stripes off with Frogtape and sprayed the post (and the birdhouse) with leftover spray paint from our Santa’s Workshop that we build on our front lawn every Christmas.
I added 1x2s that I cut and attached to the bottom like you see below, so that I could hammer the post in place, and then mount the birdhouse on top:
I painted the blue and white details with acrylic craft paint.
Then I sealed the entire house with a few coats of clear acrylic spray sealer in matte to help protect it from the elements.
I love projects like this, where I can sit in one place and play!
This knob came from Hobby Lobby. I bought for another project but decided not to use it. I spray painted it white and attached it with E6000 glue…
Here’s another patriotic project I created last year:
XOXO,
Don’t Miss a Thing!
If you like what you see, there are several ways to follow along!

What a cute birdhouse to begin with but the makeover you had done….Outstanding. I love it and I think it looks great mounted on the post especially the size that it is. Small ones are for hanging I think :}

Thanks, Colleen! I think you’re right about mounting it. It worked out great. 🙂

I’ll have to admit, too many friends to visit, but I’m so glad you shared your birdhouse! I’m excited to work on mine now since it’s been screaming at me from my back yard for a makeover all summer. 😉

Ha ha…this one had been sitting in a bin in the garage mocking me for the better part of a year. Even though Independence day has come and gone, I’m still loving this fun little tribute to the country we love so much, in my garden. 🙂
