Hello sweet friends! I’m always so glad you stopped by! Today, I am sharing a quick little makeover on this cute box I picked up at the thrift store for only $3:
I found this just before the shut-down and the price reflects that. Things certainly weren’t this cheap on my first trip post shut-down!
I couldn’t stop imagining this one in a soft blue, so that is exactly what it got!
This is Savannah Mist by Dixie Belle and easily one of my favorite blues!
It looks like the center cut-out was designed to hold a favorite photo. The piece that would have gone behind the photo to secure it ended up getting a coat of Savannah Mist also and a mini transfer!
This transfer is from a set of mini transfers called Classic Vintage Labels by Re-designed by Prima. You can find them for sale HERE in my shop.
They are perfect for adding just a small amount of embellishment to a project! I sanded all over, even across the transfer, with 220 grit sandpaper to smooth everything out and distress a little.
Then I sealed with Dixie Belle’s clear wax this time since this was a small project. Just an FYI, if you do prefer wax to seal, Dixie Belle’s wax has no intense odor like other brands. It is water based and hardly has any smell to it at all.
I used Gorilla Glue to hold this little plaque back in place since some of the doodads that originally held it and the photo in place were broken off.
I think it turned out quite pretty!
I have mostly aqua shades in my home, but I do love this soft coastal hue!
And the transfer works so well with it…
This box had some really pretty details too…
And the inside…I gave the backside of the top a transfer also:
The inside was lined with black and was in great shape so I left it as is.
Quick and simple!
That’s piece #2 from my Post Shut-down Thrift Store haul complete!
If you missed how I repurposed the first piece, you can see it HERE!
I’ll be back on Tuesday with this drop-leaf table from my Mother’s Day haul:
Have a fantastic weekend and stay safe out there!
UPDATE: This table is complete and it is cuter than ever, but that’s not all I did! Check it out HERE now!
XOXO,
Don’t Miss a Thing!
If you like what you see, there are several ways to follow along!

Simply Beautiful now!! $3.00 was cheap for such a beautiful box that looks like a million bucks now! I love how simple it was to do, but doesn’t look simple. I love it!
Christy says
Thanks, Mary! $3 was a steal for sure, and a simple makeover did wonders! XOXO

What are your favorite aqua shades?
Christy says
Hi Kelly! I love Vintage Duck Egg mixed 50/50 with Cotton and an old favorite from when I made DIY chalk paint is Sunken Pool. XOXO
Carolyn Price says
Hahaha! You psyched me out! I was sure it was going to be a Halloween box like the amazing one you did last year (or the year before?)! The one w/ several layers of technique. This is a really lovely redo but, since I’m looking forward to fall in this NC heat … I was prepared for something “wicked” good!! ; )
Marie-Interior Frugalista says
Such a pretty upcycle, Christy! I have a photo frame box in the queue and I love your idea of using a small transfer. Pinned 🙂

Christy says
Thanks so much, Michelle! I sell most of the things I redo in an antique mall here in Virginia Beach! XOXO
Sandy says
Love this! When you use Vintage Duck Egg Blue what ratio do you mix it with white?

Hi Christy again. I’m not sure if my first reply went thru. My phone was freaking out. Haha. I love Savannah Mist. One of my favorites as well. I need to find this transfer. It is so pretty. I have the IOD labels but they are not as pretty. Thank you again!
Christy says
Oh no lol… this is the only comment I see! Yes, Savannah Mist is such a lovely color. I just ordered another set of these on Etsy last night. They are fantastic for small projects! XOXO

You never disappoint with your transformations. It turned out so pretty! Love the colour! I like that you changed it up because it would have looked pretty in white as well but the blue just makes it pop more I think. Great job!

Super cute save and so functional for many things too. 😀

Thanks, Larissa! Absolutely! Have a fantastic weekend, my friend! XOXO
Anne says
Christy, Another lovely makeover! Did you consider leaving the hardware unpainted for a bit of contrast? I have used a product called Rub”N Buff. It is a wax mixed with paint or stain and comes in an array of metallic colors. It comes in small tubes and you can just apply it with your finger and then buff to shine it up. It’s great when you want to refresh or create a subtle color change on your hardware!
Christy says
Thanks, Anne! No, I like the distressed look of the hardware, so I usually paint it, but I do have two shades of gold and one silver Rub n Buff. The gold would have been pretty with the blue! XOXO
Becky says
So cute! Great save on this one!
Christy says
Thanks, Becky! XOXO
