My $20 Yard Sale Table

I was out with my babies last Saturday yard saling and as I was perusing one particular yard sale, my eyes came upon something unbelievable.  It was this:

Which was attached to this:

$20?? Really? I had another moment of, “I don’t want to walk away, because someone else might grab it!” You’ve felt that before too, I’m sure. I took it up to the ladies and quickly paid and just about bolted to my car with it before they changed their minds.

And now it looks like this:

Painted sewing table

Before anyone gets too upset with me for painting it, the top was in really bad shape and looked like it had some water damage (those rings are actually imprinted into to the wood):

The body wasn’t too bad, but I thought it might have looked funny just painting the top. I did keep some of the wood finish on the inside because it was still pretty:

And Surprise!! It’s a sewing machine table!!  Could you tell?  I have a thing for sewing machines, but I thought it would make a lovely side table. You can click here to see my thrift store sewing table makeover.

If the outside looked this good, I would have had a much harder time painting it.

I love the details that the paint brought out:

Sewing Table

This was my first time experimenting with home-made chalk paint.  I want to make sure it wears well before I share what I used. I am really loving it so far, though!

Update: Lucky for you, you don’t have to wait…here it is!

I’m thinking it could use a cute little knob on the door. What do you think?

Have a great week! 🙂

  2. Your sewing machine table is so cute transformed with a little paint! Great find.

  3. What a find! It looks so much better now that you brought life back to it. Great job.

OMG – I am SO jealous! That is fabulous. Yes, I think a cute little knob would be the perfect finishing touch.

  5. Hi Christy,

I am SO, SO jealous of your sewing machine/cabinet find!!!! I, too, have a love for old sewing machines and this one is great, especially the cabinet! I have a small one, too, that I use for a side table – they are a great height. Thanks for sharing!

  6. You may not believe this, but I have my grandmother’s sewing cabinet – with machine still in it, and I’ve been thinking about painting it! Great idea to leave some of the interior wood natural. You did a great job, and I’ll be following you soon.

  7. That is gorgeous and what a find!

  8. Oh my, what a fabulous sewing machine table. I love it, and such an incredible buy. You did a great job on redoing it. I would love for you to link this up to my Inspire Me Tuesday party that is ongoing . – -

  10. Genius makeover leaving the inside wood. Just love it. You did good!

  11. BRVO! Beautiful job!!

  12. That looks great, Christy! I saw some old sewing machines at our community garage sale this past weekend, but they weren’t in a nice cabinet like this. I think it will make for a great little accent table.

  13. Love that you painted it! Brings out the details beautifully! I have a husband who freaks out each time I paint wood so I completely understand your disclaimer, “Before anybody gets too upset with me for painting it….” Used to have to say the same thing. Now I tell him I paint everything I can because I’m rebellious and that’s just how I roll. 😉 LOL

    • You are funny! I think the paint gave it a new fresh life, but I love the few secret un painted details, too:) Thanks for coming to check it out!!

  14. Looks GREAT! What a DEAL 🙂

  15. Super cute! I have a weakness for sewing machine tables as well. I’ve been meaning to make myself some chalk paint.

  16. What a lovely find!! I love what you did with it! Now I want one too lol.

  21. I have my grandmother’s old Singer sewing machine and I so wish I could come across a sewing table like this one! I see them all the time but never any as pretty as this.
Thanks for sharing it on Project Inspired, Christy!

  22. What a great job you did to give new life to the table and such a bonus that it is a sewing machine table. You have got me wondering what ever happened to my mothers sewing table.

  23. What a find! I love how it looks now! I agree with you on the little knob or perhaps a graphic? hmmm maybe too much.

  24. Christy, I LOVE this… what an amazing find!! And you did an incredible job giving it new life!

  25. I love it painted white! We have an old sewing table being stored in our basement by my mother in law – I’d love to pull it out and put it on display! What a great find.

You should link this up at DIY Maynia – this week’s challenge was thrift store/garage sale projects! 🙂

I gotta know, did you get a knob for it? I think it would be pretty with a knob but it looks great the way it is too!
