Hi beautiful friends! On Tuesday, I shared the most dramatic furniture makeovers of 2020, and today, I’m back with my favorite non-furniture makeovers from the past year! If you include the 30 smalls I shared last year, I made over a lot of non-furniture pieces!
These don’t look all that amazing now though, do they?
Ha ha…this year was good to them! Let’s look back and see!
11
I chose a few smalls for the number 11 spot as they are all well, small.
The first is a set of spice racks. I always pick these up when I see them because they sell well when painted. The first was this simple one that I paid 99¢ for:
A coat of Mint Julep and a mini transfer made it so cute!
And this was such an easy update!
The other spice rack I shared along with this one was this larger one:
(This is the before photo of another one I did a while back, but it’s similar and this one looked almost identical.)
Fluff and part of another mini transfer did wonders for this one too!
You can revisit both of these makeovers and see what other smalls I tackled with them HERE.
Another small that was a favorite was this inexpensive wire basket I picked up for $2.25:
It was about the easiest update ever! I dry brushed it with Sea Glass, intentionally not covering it completely to get this look that totally transformed it:
See this and five more smalls HERE.
And the last small I’ve chosen was one of y’all’s favorites! It started as this box I picked up for $5.25:
It got a fresh new Fluff paint job which I chose not to distress this time:
But it was the inside that was a favorite. It was once lined with this charming red velvet:
I removed that, painted the bottom a custom color, and added another mini transfer to the bottom:
See this and the other five mini-makeovers I shared with this one HERE.

At number 10 in this non-furniture makeover countdown is this $4 flatware box that was just crying out for help:
It looked like it had been kicked down the street!
I used a mix of Hurricane Gray and Cotton to get a soft gray that was the perfect background for a pretty damask stencil:
I used a stylus to add more detail, trimming it out with tiny dots…
Of course, the inside got a pretty new fabric as well and you can see that HERE.
9
At number nine is this cool basket I picked up at our antique mall:
I ended painting the top Cotton and adding a stencil:
And for the bottom, I did a super quick dry brush:
I love this effect, and it was much quicker than attempting to get a full coat of paint on it since I had to do the inside and outside.
See more of this simple makeover HERE.

Coming in at number 8 is this frame that was part of several thrift store frames I shared in one post:
It was a fantastic frame for only $10!
I turned it into a chalkboard, but it was the remnants of a transfer I used on it that made it a favorite:
This was a great way to use up those leftover pieces of transfer I had been hanging onto!
You can see more of this and three more frames I updated in the same post HERE.
7
Another flatware box made the list at number seven. It started out as this $5 thrift store find:
I always pick these up when I find them and have probably redone a dozen of them by now.
This one got a couple of coats of Caviar, a stencil, and some Gingham transfer on the drawer front:
It was the pretty fabric on the insides of this one that made it a favorite for me!
Visit this pretty makeover HERE!

In the number six spot is what I did with these thrift store sweaters:
I made pumpkins with them, of course!
You can see how I did them including a video how-to HERE.
It’s never too early to keep your eyes out for good pumpkin sweaters!
5
Up next at number five is this lamp I scored for only $3:
I decided to take it completely apart and reconfigure it:
I also shared how I rewired it.
The highlight for me with this one was that my Dad came over to help with the rewire. This cutie now lives in my office!
See more of this lamp reconfiguration and how I rewired it HERE.

At the number four spot in this countdown is this cabinet that I just shared in November… it came out of my sister’s bathroom and she was just going to trash it:
It didn’t start out as furniture so I figured it worked for this countdown, but I did turn it into a piece of furniture!
This was one of my favorites because I really had so much fun with it!
The outside was painted in Cotton and the insides got a surprise of Pure Ocean:
See how I transformed this piece HERE.
3
This $5 thrift store wooden chest made it to the number three spot:
This was a fun one to do and a small transfer did wonders to transform it:
The drawers got a little love with a fresh coat of Apricot:
I think I liked this one so much because of the drastic difference in the before and after.
See more of this sweet transformation HERE.
2
Making the number two spot of my favorite non-furniture transformations of this past year is this case I picked up at the thrift store for $5:
As with the last one, I think I love this one so much because the difference is night and day!
This one got a fresh new look with the help of Cotton and one of my favorite fabrics:
How cute is it now? This is one I regret selling because I just loved it so much!
I only had enough of the toile to add it to the top panels. I was working with scraps…
And of course, the inside got a pretty contrasting fabric that you can see HERE!
And finally, my favorite non-furniture makeover of 2020 actually started out as furniture:
This may look very familiar because I just shared it last month! Although it started as this headboard and footboard, it ended up as a one-of-a-kind shelf (not furniture, right?):
I love how this one turned out!
See the whole makeover step-by-step as well as what I did with the footboard HERE.
And those are my favorite non-furniture makeovers of 2020!
I cannot wait to get started on some fresh new pieces for 2021!
If you missed my top furniture makeovers of the year:
You can see how they all turned out HERE!
I’ll be back with my Trash to Treasure Girls on Tuesday sharing what I did with this cabinet door that came out of our kitchen :
UPDATE: See what I did with this cabinet door HERE now!
Have a fantastic weekend, and stay safe out there!
XOXO,

What a wonderful compendium of joyous makeovers!! My favorites are always the baskets. Though the headboard to shelf and rack is a winner in my book as well. I always enjoy and learn something new with your posts.

Meg says
I love, love all of these. I was wondering if when you started this business if you made a conscious decision to have a branded color palette or did it just evolve. As a newbie to this creative outlet, I’ve been wondering if this is something I should be considering?

Thanks so much, Meg! I really just paint with colors that I personally love. I do think it helps to find your own style that defines your brand, but it will evolve naturally as you do more and more pieces. XOXO

Thanks, Christy, for another walk down “memory Lane.” I enjoyed viewing each item that you shared. Number 3 is still my favorite, but I also went back and looked at the process you used for number 2. That would be a close second. I have said this before, and I will say again. You are so talented and creative. I can’t wait to see what beauties will emerge this year. Thanks for sharing.
