I was looking for a little step stool to replace the plastic stool in the boys’ bathroom and luckily, I didn’t have to look further than my garage! I found the perfect stool for $1 last Summer at a yard sale. I am so ready for yard sale season! Even though I still have several ahemm…projects awaiting me in the garage from last season, it’s fun to find new treasures!
This stool was perfect because it is chunky and super sturdy:
I love it even more because someone hand-made it. 🙂 It is pretty sad looking though, so let’s fix that…
I added a couple of layers of paint, starting with cottage white latex and topping it off with ASCP in Duck Egg blue.
When I was deciding what to put on the top, I thought this play on words was fun. You can see how I transfer my letters here.
A good sanding brings out all the character in this piece.
Most importantly, it’s perfect for these sweet little piggies!

Very cute! And I’m with you…I’m dying for garbage sale season…and I’ve never really been a garbage saler before! But I’m aspiring. I can’t wait to bring a bunch of crap home and throw Phil into a tizzy. 😉

Christy, this is just darling and putting the word Reach on the stool is perfect! I should make one of these for my my mom – she can never reach her cabinets because she’s a shorty! 🙂 Love this – thanks for sharing and pinning! Have a happy Wednesday! xo
Christy K. James says
Thanks, Cindy! I see a great Mother’s Day project in your future. 🙂
Terri F. says
I love this and have the perfect stool to use! Is there anyway you can post more pictures of each step during future projects and give more step by step details of how it’s done? Many of us don’t have the natural know-how but want to learn!! Love your stuff! Thanks! 🙂
Christy K. James says
I’m so glad you like it, Terri! It’s funny because I usually show just about every project step by step. There is a link to how I add the letters, other than that, it was just a couple of coats of paint, a little sanding, and a coat of Annie Sloan’s clear wax to seal. You could use a spray on sealer too if you use regular latex paint. It’s good to know that you appreciate seeing the whole process. 🙂
Stephanie @ Year-Round Giving says
Absolutely love it! It would look so much better than the Cars step stool I have for my boys! 🙂

Thanks! The one I was using was a cheap plastic one I purchased from Walmart years ago for my older son. It was time for an upgrade. 🙂

Really sweet, Christy! I just painted a target stool, that I bought years ago, in Duck egg…didn’t think to stencil something cute on it for my little grand “piggies”. Who just happen to be coming to stay this weekend! Thanks for the inspiration!!

Christy K. James says
Yes, Paula! I love making over yard sale treasures! I’m ready for yard sale season to start again. 🙂
Julie at Being Home says
Ha! Too cute! The “Reach” words made me laugh. Being 5’1″ I usually need something to stand on to reach something. lol Great bargain makeover!

Thanks, Julie! I thought it was a fun play on words. 🙂
