Hi friends! I’ve got a quick makeover to share with you today. I found this little antique bench at a yard sale for $5:
Actually it was the same yard sale where I found my sewing chair. The owner had attempted to make it over using this burlap sack, which could have turned out okay if she had finished it right.
I decided to go another direction with it though…
I had this small scrap of fabric left over from my fabric inlay dresser and it was just enough to cover this little bench seat.
I originally painted it black to cover the red. Then I added petroleum jelly here and there so the paint wouldn’t adhere as well in those areas.
Then I painted over it with cottage white. You can see the effect on the side here:
The petroleum jelly allows the paint to sand off really easily in those areas.
I wouldn’t normally have a little bench sitting on my dining table. 🙂
If you like this, you’ll love my desk chair makeover too!
I’ll be back tomorrow with a $500 CASH giveaway!! See you then!

I need to try your petroleum jelly tip. I like the end result that it gave the paint on your bench.

It works great, Paula! Enjoy the rest of your week! 🙂

Cute! Love the worn look you did with the paint. It looks a bit too small to sit on, what are your plans with it? I’d be interested to know, my parents have a sad little bench sitting around that I could mess with. 🙂
Christy K. James says
Thanks, Kristina. It is pretty small and probably serves very little purpose, but it’s cute just sitting near my fireplace. 🙂

I think you ALWAYS have a stool sitting on your table…
Cute!
