Welcome, dear friends, to another edition of Trash-to-Treasure Tuesday! I have actual trash to share today yay! My friends have four more makeovers for you at the bottom, so be on the lookout for those.
Here we go!
When I was looking through what I had left in my haul that would work for for today’s trashy makeover, I immediately singled out this table:
It was part of a haul of trashy goodness a sweet local reader passed along to me. She had saved several pieces that had been left at her rentals, and this was one of them. This vintage cabinet was anther that I have already redone.
She did warn me that it may look like trash, but she had faith I could work some magic, or at least use the parts for other projects.
This one was very well used…
I originally thought I might shorten the legs and turn it into a bed tray. I also considered removing the legs altogether and making a sign or shelf with the top.
But in the end, I thought it would be the most functional if it remained a small table.
I’ve included a few affiliate links so you can find the products I love.
Investigate
Judging by these holes, it was missing a support bar across the bottom:
That’s good detective work right there!
That missing piece made it super wobbly, so I knew I needed to reinforce it somehow.
But first, as you can see, it had years of dust built up, so the first order of business was a good cleaning!
Clean
I used my favorite prep cleaner, White Lightning, for this job. One TBSP mixed into a half gallon of warm water is plenty to get this little table ready to go.
I swapped the dirty water for clean water and wiped it down once more to remove any residue.
Make it sturdy
To fix the wobble on this little table, I found a piece of lumber in my stash that I measured and cut to fit for across the bottom:
That would surely give it better support and add more function! I cut it with my table saw and gave it a good sanding all over with 220 grit sandpaper wrapped around an old sanding sponge:
Be sure to always sand raw wood before painting.
I also needed to cover this gap that looks like it may have had something that slid into that area:
I found a piece of this trim in the garage that was perfect!
Fill holes
Before adding the new bottom and trim around the top, I filled the holes with Dixie Mud:
I sanded those areas with 220 grit sandpaper also once the mud was dry.
Assemble
Then I used wood glue and my Ryobi Nailer to attach the new bottom:
And then wood glue and spring clamps to secure the new trim:
Paint
Finally, my favorite part of any project, paint!
I chose this gorgeous Mermaid Tail blue green color:
Good bye, years of wear and tear!
This is such a pretty color!
I gave it two coats and then sanded all over to distress a little and smooth out the finish.
I decided to give it maximum protection with Gator Hide using the blue sponge applicator:
Not everything requires this level of protection, but in case this ends up in a bathroom, I thought it would benefit from the water repellent protection in Gator Hide.
The After
And that is it! While this makeover did require some fixes, it was nice to have a quick makeover this time of year!
It is the perfect petite size for a powder room!
You would never know there once was a large gap at the top:
And the added piece across the bottom added more storage surface.
I stacked towels here, but you could also add a basket…maybe even a small clothes hamper?
The bottom looks like it was always there.
Simple makeovers are the best sometimes, especially when they’re FREE!
Here are my friends’ Trash-to-Treasure projects being shared today:
I am so close to finishing this haul!
Just a few pieces left…I need to get shopping!
This is one of the other pieces I was given along with this table:
If you missed that makeover, see it HERE!
I’ll be back on Thursday with my Furniture Fixer Upper girls. We’re posting a bit early due to the Christmas holiday. I hope to see you then as we will be sharing our favorite FFU posts of the year!

Christy says
Aww thank you, Marcie! I’m so glad I was able to save it. I was a bit late getting it to my booth, so it is still there but hopefully not for long! Happy New Year!! XOXO
