Hi there! Remember when I shared my hutch decorated three ways as part of a decorating challenge with some of my favorite blogging friends? Well today we’re back and this month’s decorating challenge is baskets! I see baskets used mostly for storage of course, but there’s no reason they can’t be functional and decorative right?
The basket I’m sharing today was a $2 thrift store find that I of course I had to make over, because making over stuff is what I do, y’all. 🙂
It started out like this:
I loved it as is. I really did, especially the shape of it, but I thought it would be even more fun with a beachy stripe! I’ve included a few affiliate links so you can find the products I love.
It felt like it still needed something on the front after painting, so I went digging through my stash and found a starfish garland I’ve had for years. I snipped this off of it. The sand dollar was in a box of shells I picked up at a yard sale for $2 a couple of weekends ago.
Perfect!
Updating this basket was simple…I spray primed it first with Rustoleum spray primer:
Then gave it two coats of Blossom White:
After about an hour or so, I taped it off with FrogTape for delicate surfaces. I made sure to cover the handle and the inside so it didn’t spray through. Then I sprayed the stripes in Fossil:
Pretty simple! This would look even better on a more solid basket.
I recently redid this one for my guest bathroom downstairs:
This works great for that space since we have a pedestal sink and no storage in there, but I love the convenience of it too, so I wanted to do something similar for our master bathroom.
You can read all about my Master Bathroom Remodel HERE. It was SO ugly! We had two bathtubs…what’s up with that? Definitely worth a trip over to see it! (It was one of my very first posts!)
Baskets are great for storing and organizing so many things, but they don’t have to be boring!
If you liked this one, I did this very large basket very similarly:

So incredibly, beautifully transformed! And yet, so simple! I love the way you recycle hand-crafted objects (that shouldn’t be discarded so easily, but thank goodness they are!) always in a new and beautiful way! I love the way you think Christy!! Thank you so much for sharing!

I love seeing what new things you come up with! Do you know that you have a lot of pop ups and advertising that were never there before? Could be my iPad. Just thought I would let you know.
Thanks

Thanks, Brenda! And thanks for letting me know about the ads. I have someone new handling my mobile ads, so they still need tweaking. Thanks so much for following along! 🙂

super cuteness. i have always wanted to throw some stripes on a basket. looks great. did you leave your hutch the way it was or change it back yet?
Christy K. James says
Thanks, Laura! I haven’t touched my hutch lol! I probably won’t until Christmas.:)
Melisa says
Love your beachy basket makeover! I’m glad you mentioned covering the inside of the basket when you sprayed it. I can see myself overlooking that step and making a mess.
Christy K. James says
Thanks, Melisa! The weave on this basket was really open, so protecting the inside was necessary. If you have tighter weave, I wouldn’t worry about it. Thanks for taking a minute to comment! XOXO
