Hello awesome Friends! It’s been almost nine months since I last took you to my booth, so I thought it was time for another trip! I always enjoy looking at other people’s booths myself.
You can read about my last booth update HERE, but this is about what it looked like the last time I shared it:
Forgive the grainy fuzzy photos. I took all of these with my phone.
That was in August of last year. The tall dresser with the fabric on the drawers sold as well as the two side table with the same fabric, and this pretty dresser moved in:
You’ll notice the oval coffee table with the French graphics is still there though. Keep your eye on that one.
That dresser didn’t last long and in came this awesome aqua book case that I stole from a little girl (not true, I swear….sorta):
This kitchen table and chairs made its way in as well…
That was in November. I didn’t go too crazy packing my booth for the Holidays. I chose to slack on it and spend a bit more time enjoying the season.
Lots of things sold while I was slacking, but in January I was back to work. I brought in this dressing table:
Hi oval coffee table, I see you’re still there.
This antique empire dresser also made its way in:
As well as that lamp…loved that lamp!
The dressing table sold and I added a few more new pieces:
Like this Farmhouse Headboard Bench:
And this gorgeous, one-of-my-most-favorite-why-didn’t-I-keep it pieces moved in as well, this Antique Cabinet:
As well as that fun shutter cabinet…remember that?
Also this crabalicious dresser that was a $5 yard sale score:
The crab dresser only lasted a couple of days and the empire dresser sold as well. You can see the shutter cabinet sold too.
Then I brought in this pretty Frenchy Dresser (which started out yellow):
(See what’s hiding behind the bench?)
This pretty blue dresser is still hanging around too. I love this piece. It makes the booth look good so I don’t mind, but do you see all the white pieces that have come and gone while this blue beauty remains?
That chalkboard on top actually came from Kirklands. The mirror that was there had broken, so they were selling it at a deep discount. I snatched it up and painted a chalkboard there instead, then added a little blue detail. It didn’t last long.
Then I came into this after a busy weekend…
Looks like I was robbed ha ha. I quickly got it back in order though. And soon after, the dresser with the numbers sold, as well as that cane back chair to the left and my sweet lamp.
And this is pretty much how it looks now. I moved the blue dresser back over to where it was before.
My space extends to the right of the dresser about six feet. This table and chairs set was hiding over there, so I brought that up front.
Chalkboards sell well for me and make great fillers. This is what I’ve been working on recently:
To see how I make my chalkboards, visit this post HERE.
That sweet vintage table was a Facebook online yard sale group purchase. I intended to use it in my own space, but it was much too small for where I wanted to use it, so here it is. The paint job on it was a hot mess though, so I gave it fresh paint.
This fun vintage suitcase was a curbside find. It has been hanging around a little longer than I thought it would, but like the blue dresser, it looks cute in the booth.
Can you see what’s missing???
Nope…here it is…
It will find its new home in time. Eventually everything does. 🙂
If you have a booth or are looking to open a booth, you may enjoy this post also:
Hope you enjoyed this little field trip to my booth today. If you’re ever in Virginia Beach, Virginia, look me up at the Virginia Beach Antique Mall. 🙂

Chrissy- it is lovely! I went there last December from Connecticut, hoping to see you. I asked the front lady for you. You were there the day before I went. I love all the pieces and the colors. You do amazing work. I go to Virginia every year. Hope to see you during one of my trips!

Hi Christy! I live at the oceanfront!!! You have the cutest booth in the building! I’ve gone to that antique mall for years. I’ll introduce myself next time I come in and you’re there. I subscribe to your blog and really enjoy it! 🙂
Christy K. James says
Oh how awesome!! You’re really close to me. Thank you so much…there used to be a few of us that repainted/repurposed things there, but some of the others have moved on. I hope to run into you there one day! XOXO
Debrashoppeno5 says
Your booth looks great. You are so right about some things stay forever and then they’re gone. That is the beauty of it being your booth, you can leave it as long as you want because there is a buyer for everything.
Christy K. James says
Thanks, Debra! SO true…I pointed out the coffee table, but that’s not the only the thing that has hung around for too long. But then just when I think I need to take something home and redo it, poof! It sells! Just waiting for the right buyer to come along I guess. 🙂
Sue says
I’m a fan too!!! Love your booth. I really want to plan a trip to Virginia Beach and will certainly check it out!!!xoxo
PS Have a very Happy Mother’s Day!!!
Christy K. James says

Looks Awesome, if I lived closer I would love to visit your booth! Lots of nice things to choose from!!
Christy K. James says
Thanks, Sandra!! XO
Kim says
Your booth is so pretty! I love that you keep the color scheme simple. Could you give an idea of what your chalk boards are priced at please. I have a booth and I love to make those but I’m never sure how much to charge.
Christy K. James says
Thank you, Kim! I price my chalkboards at anywhere from $25 for a small chalkboard all the way up to $65 for the larger ones. The medium sized ones that fall between $38-$45 sell the best. 🙂
Angelia says
I could live in your booth!! ???? Everything there makes me happy. Seeing your booth caused me to check out some stores in my area. What a dream it would be to have a booth of my own one day. You are truly blessed with a crafty talent, Christy. Wishing you many sales in the month of May!
Christy K. James says
Thank you so much, Angelia! I really enjoy having a booth! XOXO
Louise says
Love the shutters on the back wall! They set the tone for your darling booth. Where did you find so many? And how do you hang things from them, nails or S-hooks?
Christy K. James says
Thanks, Louise! I found those at a yard sale in my neighborhood for $5 a set and spray painted them. Large paperclips make the perfect “s” hangers when opened up. XO
Christy K. James says
Oh and I should add that I do use screws for really heavy items.
Norma Dickerson says
Christy,
LOVE your booth! How do you hang things over the shutters? I have a booth and the walls are pegboard (ugh), which I understand but don’t love the look. Just wondering how you got the shutters to stay straight and then hang items over them…
Christy K. James says
Thanks, Norma! The shutters are screwed into the wall and then I use large paperclips that I open up to make “S” hooks that work perfectly for hanging many of my items. Heavier pieces are hung with screws. XO
Susan says
I love all of your pieces! Great work! I have relatives in Virginia Beach that I hope to visit soon. I will definitely be stopping by the Antique Mall!
Thank you for sharing.
Christy K. James says
Thanks, Susan! I hope you get a chance to stop by when you’re in town! XO
Becky says
Wow, a beautiful booth, for sure! I’m not surprised your chalkboards sell well – I love them. Such pretty frames! That was fun, seeing all the changes as things move on. Thanks! : )
Christy K. James says
Thank you, Becky! I always enjoy getting to peek into other people’s booths as well, so I thought ya’ll would like seeing mine too. 🙂
Susan says
Love your work! I have a question about the chalkboards. What is the base you’re painting chalkboard paint onto? I have a lot of empty frames and want to turn them into chalkboards. They need some sort of backing but I don’t know what’s best.
Christy K. James says
Thanks, Susan! I write about what I use to make my chalkboards here: https://www.confessionsofaserialdiyer.com/jewelry-holder-chalk-board/ Hope this helps! XO
Gina Keysor says
I live to far away but love your booth! Have you ever thought of a large area rug? As a person who loves all the beachy look, (maybe) a couple of pieces done in a soft coral with distressing would be a addition in your color palette. But you have a lot of great pieces hope you have successful summer, both in selling and acquiring!!
Christy K. James says
Hi Gina! That tile floor is a bit unsightly, but it does allow me to move furniture by simply sliding it across the floor. Plus my space is not square, it is two oblong spaces. I do think a rug would cozy it right up though. As for the coral…I haven’t gone there yet. I guess because I usually stick to colors that I love myself, but maybe I should try a couple of pieces and see? Thanks for your input! 🙂
Mary Meusburger says
Oh, Christy! Thanks for the lovely tour of your booth! I am a West coast gal who will most likely never make it to see your booth, so this was fun. You have made so many great pieces and this is a true testament of your talents!
Have a wonderful day!
Christy K. James says
Thanks so much, Mary!! I’m glad I was able to give you a virtual tour! XOXO
Paula@SweetPea says
It was fun to see your booth and to see what has sold and wasn’t isn’t so quick to sell.
Christy K. James says
Thanks, Paula! There are things that get snapped up right away, and then there are others that I think are so cute but seem to hang around forever! You just never know! XOXO
Sharon says
I just love your colors in the booth. A lot of your items I followed your step-by-step process :-). I do have one question that I tried to go and find in my files is when you do the chalk boards in your frames, what kind of wood/backing are you using? I have picked up a couple of frames from the curbside (LOL) and want to make them for a quick Mother’s Day gift.
Christy K. James says
Thanks, Sharon! I love the soothing coastal colors as well. I think you will find this post, where I share how I make my chalkboards, helpful:https://www.confessionsofaserialdiyer.com/jewelry-holder-chalk-board/ Have fun creating! XOXO
Jayne Slovick says
This was really fun! I doubt I’ll ever get to see your booth in person, so it’s nice to see what it looks like and how things sell and get replenished.
I read your birthday post. I would love to go to Scotland…the Outlander did that.
Thanks you for all your hard work and inspirations.
Christy K. James says
I’m so happy you enjoyed this little trip to my booth, Jayne! I have never been to Scotland either and would love to visit one day. 🙂
Jayne Slovick says
I’ve been to Virginia Beach and shopped around when my daughter lived there while her husband was in the Navy. Nice place. I live near Boise, Idaho.
Christy K. James says
Oh good…the Navy actually brought us back here when I was 12 and I’m sure I’ll live here forever. I’ve never been to Idaho! XO
Elise Howell says
Christy,
I SO enjoyed your booth tour! You are truly gifted with how you breath new life and beauty into pieces that you find—- and in so doing give them a new home and a second time to be enjoyed! I love following your adventures, fantastic step by step instructions of how you “make your magic” — from all the way in San Diego. 🙂 One of these days I hope to visit your booth in person! Are you opened year ’round?
Christy K. James says
Aww you are so sweet, Elise!! Thank you so much! I’m glad you enjoyed the tour…my booth is in an Antique Mall that is open all year. 🙂
Tracey Martin says
Loved the tour!! I have a tiny little booth and you inspire me! (I did notice one random black chair at the beginning which I was surprised to see. Black sells well in my area, but I don’t recall seeing black in your booth much! 🙂 ) Also, it was incredibly encouraging to me for YOU to have something that has taken quite a while to sell. I encounter that more than I’d like and tend to panic, but I know now just to stay the course because you’re right, eventually it does sell. Keep making things beautiful and blogging about it!
Christy K. James says
Thanks, Tracey! SO glad you enjoyed it! I have tons of things that take a while to sell, but most things eventually do when the right buyer comes along. That dark chair was actually stained and I found it at a yard sale that way. The owner had done a really nice job of refurbishing it and was selling it pretty cheap, so I bought it and stuck it in my booth. That doesn’t happen too often. It actually took a little while to sell and did stick out like a sore thumb. 🙂
Carrie says
Thank you for the tour, your booth is so pretty! Would you suggest renting a booth space to novice furniture painters? I started painting about a year ago and so far mainly sell my items on Craigslist. I’ve thought about a booth, but am unsure whether or not it would be profitable after paying the rental fees. But seeing your booth makes me want to go for it! Any advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated, love your blog!
Christy K. James says
You are so welcome, Carrie! I’m not a huge fan of going through CL and having random people calling and coming to my house, so having a booth is more in my comfort zone. The place where I rent has a 30 day notice policy so I knew that if it didn’t work out, I just had to give 30 days notice before I could move out. The overhead does cut into my profits, but I try to keep up my inventory up so I can easily cover that and make a profit. If you had a booth, you would need to keep it stocked with “smalls” as well since not everyone can afford a piece of furniture. The smaller items help keep my booth sales up. Maybe you could check out some places in your area and just see what their policies are? We also have several online yard sales and furniture forums through Facebook in my area where people sell their pieces. At least that way you can see their profile before they show up at your door. Maybe you have some similar in your area? Hope I helped a little…good luck!!
Carrie says
Great advice Christy, thanks for taking the time to respond!
Christy K. James says
Sure! 🙂

I’m going to have to make a trip down from Canada! Love your stuff and your site and you are such an inspiration! I have so many projects in mind now for the castoffs my family is always sending my way. With the inspiration I’ve found on your site, I’ll bet they will all want them back once they’re completed!
Christy K. James says
Oh yes…come on down!! We get a lot of visitors from Quebec here! Your family will wish they had seen the potential in all those things when you’re done with them! XO
Jan Fusco says
Your booth looks great.
I was wondering, what do you make the actual chalkboards with? Just a piece of wood? I would love to try some of those. Thanks.
Jan Fusco says
Never mind. I see your link above.
Christy K. James says
Oh ha ha ok! 🙂
Christy K. James says
Thank you, Jan! I share all the details on my chalkboards in this post: https://www.confessionsofaserialdiyer.com/jewelry-holder-chalk-board/ Hope this helps! XO
Cheryl Krett says
I live in Canada, yet I hope one day I can visit your booth. It is lovely. Keeping everything in the same colour family gives it such a nice cohesive look, which buyers must appreciate. It would be easy to add your pieces to a room and have them coordinate well. So many beautiful pieces – so many great ideas! Thank you for that. Right now, we’re renovating our kitchen and dining room, so that has become my “booth” when I post things for sale. It works for now (until my hubby kicks me out of that area to finish the renos! Giggle!)
Christy K. James says
Thank you, Cheryl! I do have trouble straying from those colors…they are my favorites, but I think you’re right; it does give my booth a cohesive look. How exciting for you to be getting a couple of new spaces!! XO

Wish I lived closer… lots of pretties I’d love to take home! Love your style and colors! 🙂 ~Rhonda

Ok let me just say I love it all. I’m so glad you share your thoughts and expertise . So are you thinking white sells better? I have found that but unfortunaley I don’t want to paint e erything white. I like your idea of having a stash of chalkboards . Now I have to get going. My garage is full of projects!
Christy says
You are so welcome, Mary! Yes, white sells better for sure, but I totally get it…that gets boring for us! And for our readers, I’m sure lol! XO
