If I had little girls, I would be in so much trouble. I mean, come on…with all the gorgeous clothes and hair accessories, and of course, room decor! Sweet friends, it is a really good thing because I surely would not be able to restrain myself! This is one of my favorite days of the month. I and five of my talented friends are all sharing furniture fixer uppers today! Be on the lookout for links to their projects at the bottom!
Some of y’all might remember me sharing this photo on my facebook page a couple of months ago:
I was so excited I found these two headboards for only $12 each!! Um yes, please. Load them up!! I’ve included a few affiliate links so you can find the products I love.
I knew I wanted a super feminine look for these headboards to fulfill my need to create girly things. Sadly, that meant saying good-bye to those snazzy rollers on the bottom.
Painting the Headboards
This makeover started with a good wipe-down and a coat of Cotton, but then I ended up getting the dreaded bleed-through. I then gave both headboards a coat of BOSS in white:
I let them dry overnight before applying another coat of Cotton and thank goodness, no more bleed-through! It did need one more coat of paint for solid coverage though.
Then I decided to add stripes to the inset panel across the bottom using FrogTape and Dixie Belle’s Pink Champagne…
I added two coats and removed the tape immediately after applying the second coat.
When the stripes were dry, I sanded lightly all over using 220 grit sandpaper which I like to wrap around an old sanding block. I vacuumed the dust with my shop vac and then gave both headboards a final wipe-down with a clean soft cloth just to be sure the surface was dust-free before applying the transfers.
The one I used is called Chatellerault and was perfect for these headboards, and you can find it in my shop HERE.
Applying the Transfers
Applying the transfers could not be easier! You simply line them up where you want to place them, fold one edge of the backing back and adhere it to your surface. They will be slightly tacky so this is a one-time shot. Once it’s stuck, it’s stuck! Then pull the remaining backing off as you smooth the transfer onto your surface.
Then use the burnishing tool that is included and rub the short edge across the entire transfer using medium pressure:
When you’re done burnishing the entire design onto your project, pull the plastic layer on top off slowly…
If any of your transfer sticks to the top plastic layer, just lay it back down a burnish it a bit more.
Applying a Sealer
I sealed with Dixie Belle’s Clear Coat in Satin using their blue applicator sponge:
SO easy!! These Dixie Belle products are available in my online shop and in my booth. {Get free shipping in my Etsy shop when you spend $50 or more! No code necessary!}
I love how girly these headboards turned out!
And the stripes really add a sweet detail.
Headboard number two is slightly different since I used another section from the same transfer:
They coordinate with each other but aren’t exactly alike and I think that works just fine!
These only needed a little bit of distressing…
And here is the other design again…
So sweet!
I hope y’all enjoyed this fun, girly makeover! Now to decide how much to charge for them…what do you think?

Petra says
I was expecting a bench seat but was pleasantly surprised to see the lovely bedheads kept as bedheads 😀 If I’d had a daughter I too would’ve spent far too much money on all sorts of little things 🙂 I love the pink striping and I really must consider doing something with a transfer. Yours are gorgeous. More beautiful pieces of art from yourself 🙂
Christy says
Thank you, Petra! I think this is only the second time I’ve kept the headboards as headboards lol! Oh me too…I would spend so much money on all the pretty things! I hope you’ll try a transfer…they really are easy to apply! XOXO
Mary Kaiser says
OH MY LORD those turned out so beautiful!!! I think you are so amazing!! I had three boys and then a daughter that when the kids were little I was able to do all the girly stuff for my daughter so I got some of it out of my system. It is a good thing I did because I have number 7 grandson on the way!! Not a grand daughter in sight, lol!! The head boards are just priceless, and would be perfect for someone with twin little girls bedroom. I am not sure what you should charge for them, but whoever gets them will be so lucky to have two Christy original works of art!!
Christy says
I’m so glad you like them, Mary! Thank you! That is too funny about you only having the one girl between all those sons and grandsons! I do hope I get a granddaughter or two, but I would cherish a little boy as well of course! Enjoy your weekend!! XOXO
Janice Holt says
Now these are two beautiful headboards. Great job.
Christy says
Thank you so much, Janice! XOXO

If I had little girls I’d be in so much trouble too! This thrift makeover is so adorable and sweet… and $12…whaaaat!?! You find the best thrift finds! XO
Christy says
Thank you, Denise! Right?? I probably save a ton of money by having boys! These were a jackpot find for sure, but still not as cheap as your curbside gem! XOXO
Christina in SW FL says
Oh so pretty Christy! Nice save with the Boss! 🙂 These turned out so soft and feminine!! Beautiful!
Christy says
Thank you, Christina! That BOSS saved the day for sure…I didn’t expect these to bleed through! XOXO
Denise V Cox says
I do declare, you select the prettiest, must feminine decals! Love this , Christy!! You ARE Virginia Beach’s seashore gem.
Christy says
Thank you, Denise! You are SO sweet!! XOXO
Nancy says
Love, love, love these headboards! I love frilly things. They remind me of my Granny’s bed that my mom painted white for her in the 70’s. Oh dear I’m old!
Christy says
I’m so glad you like how they turned out, Nancy! Thank you! They sure don’t make beautiful pieces like they used to! XOXO
Debbie says
Be still my heart! I Adore those head boards!!!
Christy says
Thank you so much, Debbie! XOXO
gwen says
so cute Christy! I always say that i need a doll, but these are too big for that!
i wouldn’t mind at all that the headboards aren’t matchy-matchy, i think they would be sweet in one room and i love the subtle pink stripes!
Christy says
Thank you, Gwen! That’s funny…I always tell my husband that I’d love to have a dollhouse! I might just break down and buy one one of these days. I’m glad to hear you don’t mind the headboards being a bit different from one another…I was wondering about that. I think they will still work nicely together too! XOXO
Candy says
Wow absolutely love these they are gorgeous. Wish I had a place for them 😁. Thanks for sharing.
Blessings Candy
Christy says
Aww thank you so much, Candy! I would love to have an extra room that I could decorate using them just to play! XOXO

Christy says
Thank you, Kandice!! XOXO
Cheryl Atkinson says
Oh Christy! some little girl is going to get the bed of her dreams and hopefully keep it forever. so precious! I’m going to guess a price but remember i am so new to this and i’m only doing this to see if i’m learning. My myself i would charge $275- $310? Am i close?
Christy says
Aww thank you, Cheryl! I hope so! Would that be for both headboards? I could see that for both…I need to take into account the fact that they will have to purchase a bed frame for each. XOXO
Sue Cox says
Perfect for a little girl’s room–twin beds with room for an overnight guest! Very clever use of the decals; I think they look beautiful. They’re obviously a pair.
Christy says
Thank you so much, Sue! XOXO
Kathy M says
I was sure you would turn these into a bench. LOL I love what you did with them. So adorable for a little girls room (no matter how old!). You always blow me away with your transformations.
Christy says
You know me well, Kathy! I do love a good headboard bench lol. Thank you so much!! XOXO
Marie says
These will not last long in your booth, Christy! Love the pink stripes and the Chatellerault is one of my favorite furniture transfers. Such pretty headboard makeovers!
Christy says
I hope you’re right, Marie! Thank you! I love this one too!! XOXO
Sue says
Again, another beautiful work of art! I love what you did with the transfers. They make the pair a “pair.” I have 5 granddaughters, but only one is a “girly” girl – my youngest. Too bad she doesn’t need the beds! I would agree with $275 – $310. But like you, I would suggest selling them together if possible. I agree that they will need bed frames – unless, of course, the buyer already has frames and just need to find the right headboards for them! These would be precious.
Christy says
Thank you so much, Sue! Wow…five granddaughters…hoping I get one some day! XOXO
Sue Mellette says
I hope so for you! They are so much fun, but I also have four grandsons and they are so special too. They have gotten me involved in all the Marvel movies! They are also so appreciative of what I cook for them!! I love them all!
Christy says
Aww I love that! Little boys are the sweetest for sure! XOXO
Rose Lefebvre says
Cute headboards for 2 little girls.
Christy says
Thank you, Rose! I would love to have an extra bedroom to put these in just for fun! XOXO
Kimberly says
So ADORABLE, Christy!! I LOVE being a “boy mom” but love to shower the little girlies I know with the frills and handmade doll clothes.
Christy says
Thank you, Kimberly! Same here!! XOXO
Cecilia from Georgia says
I’m late to the party but enjoy reading the comments. I have 3 grown sons and a step daughter who was an adult when I married her Dad. We have 5 grandsons and the 6th due in December. I wouldn’t even know how to tie a hair ribbon or braid hair! That hasn’t stopped me from having a feminine guest room that I love! The headboards are precious and you make it look so easy! Glad you enjoyed your trip and returned home safely. XOXO
Christy says
Thank you, Cecilia!! Wow six grandsons! Well boys sure are sweet, so if that’s all I get, that will be just fine! XOXO
Susan Duffy says
My, oh my! Love them!
Christy says
Thank you, Susan! XOXO

KATHY BINKLEY says
Yes Christy, they were really pretty. I just love your creativity. To bad they didnt have a foot board but I believe I could make something to go with it. Love your style! I’m curious on your price. Thank you for sharing.
Christy says
Thank you so much, Kathy! I’m thinking $125 or so for each? How does that sound? XOXO
