Beautiful friends, welcome back! Today, I’m sharing 15+ fabulous mirror makeovers from my archives! But first, I hope you all enjoyed a wonderful and safe holiday weekend if you’re here in the states!
This is Brennan’s birthday week and with Summer vacation from school fully underway, I’m taking a few days off to enjoy my boys! This week I’ll be sharing some old favorites, and then I’ll be back with something brand new to share with my Trash-to-Treasure girls next week!
I have made over so many mirrors over the years that when I thought about what I wanted to reshare today, I decided to pull all my favorite mirror redos into one fun post!
I’ve linked to each mirror post below the first after photos of each mirror if you’d like to see more of that makeover.
Enjoy!
1
The first makeover in this collection is a super oldie, dating all the way back to 2016!
I picked up this oval wooden mirror for $4 at the thrift store:
It got a super sweet update with ivory paint and the addition of some DIY rosettes I made from drop cloth:
Oval Rosette Mirror
I shared a standing version that I made over in that post also!

The next mirror I’m resharing today is this one I found at the thrift store for only $6:
I see this style of mirror at thrift stores all the time!
White paint was all this mirror needed to update it:
$6 Thrift Store Mirror Makeover
But the addition of hooks added more function!
3
At number three is this mirror that Nancy challenged me to make over during one of our Thriftshop Shakedown videos!
I wasn’t sure there was much I could do with it, but luckily, I was wrong!
Thrift Shop Shakedown #4 and a Mirror Makeover
Whitewashing it gave it a soothing, driftwood look:
You can watch me and Nancy shopping for it here:
If you have trouble viewing, find it on YouTube HERE.

This next mirror started out as this framed picture I found at the thrift store that had been marked down twice to $4.98:
Seeing it beside this smaller gold mirror that was in our garage gave me the idea to attempt to marry the two!
And the union was a success!
Thrift Store Picture Repurposed
I did have to add a third frame in between the two to make it work, but it worked out great!
5
This next mirror was also a thrift store find at $6:
It was missing some of the pretty details on the top, so I opted to whack those all the way off:
I really was intending to keep the larger medallion in the center to use later, but sadly, it broke apart as I was trying to remove it.
Painting the mirror in Cotton and adding a transfer to the top portion turned this desk that I redid using the same transfer, into a pretty dressing table:
$6 Mirror Makeover
6
Up next is this mirror that was a vision in harvest gold:
I found this mirror at the same estate sale where I found the desk above, and everything was half off. This mirror ended up being only $5!
It was the perfect piece to try out this lovely Haint Blue:
70’s Gold Mirror Makeover
So soft and coastal!
7
I found this mirror for a great deal at only $4.25! I just loved the shape of it:
This one got a simple coat of Driftwood…
Mirror and Table Makeovers
And then I dry brushed it lightly with white paint and a very dry brush.
I really love this neutral color!
8
The next mirror in this round up is this charmer I found that had been marked down to $6.98:
It was perfect as a festive addition to our Christmas decor!
DIY Faux Etched Christmas Mirror
This fun Honky Tonk Red and faux etching really brought this mirror to life!
9
This set of mirrors had been hanging around our garage for forever:
I believe they started out as one of those weird situations from the 70’s where long dressers had two mirrors.
They were the perfect additions to either side of our bed:
How to get the Perfect Distressed Finish with Chalk Paint
This was before I painted our bedroom set, but these were the catalyst that got that big job underway!
In this post, I shared a tip for achieving the perfect distressed finish:
10
This next mirror is one I reference often. I used it to show how to cheat a distressed look.
It started as this not-so-pretty mirror that I picked up for just under $30 :
All those details painted up beautifully and faux distressing really enhanced them so nicely!
Shabby Mirror Makeover (& How to Cheat a Distressed Look)
You have to see it a bit closer to see the faux distressing:
This is especially fantastic if you are painting over an already painted piece that you plan to distress and do not want the original color to show through.
11
At number 11 is this mirror that I almost threw in the trash, for real:
It came with this dresser but didn’t do it any favors, so I left it off.
I’m so glad I didn’t because it made a great companion to this queen Anne table I paired it with.
Queen Anne Sofa Table Makeover & a Bonus Redo!
Hooks again add more function…
12
This next mirror is a favorite. I think mostly because a simple paint job and some dry brushing did wonders for this dated gold plastic:
And voila!
Thrift Store Decor: The Rest of Thrift Store Haul #2!
Paint, a little dry brushing, and a light sanding shows off all those pretty details perfectly!
13
This mirror was a freebie, given to me by one of my dear readers:
I had a shabby vision for this one:
Shabby Chic Mirror Makeover
Because the original was such a light wood, this one got faux distressed also.
14
I seriously almost donated this one back to the thrift store:
It moved with us four years ago! It originally came with this dresser that Jack and I redid when he was still in middle school. (He’s going into his second year in college!) We ended up not using it with the dresser.
I am so thrilled that I didn’t donate it because it is one of my favorite pieces I’ve redone!
How to Properly Paint a Mirror
This is Oyster from the Silk line, and I just love it! The transfer was the perfect sweet addition!
15
This next one is pretty recent and was part of my last haul, along with the one above:
I paid $6 for it and just loved the shape of it!
It was a great guinea pig for DB’s new decoupage paper line:
$6 Thrift Store Mirror Makeover with Decoupage Paper
I know I promised 15 mirror makeovers, but I have two more!
16
This next one ended up prettier than I thought it could be! It started out pretty plain:
But Vintage Duck Egg paint and the new Lace Transfer did wonders!
$4 Thrift Store Mirror Makeover with Transfer
White wax helped to make all those pretty details that were previously hidden, stand out:
17
And finally, this most recent makeover was a $7 thrift store score:
This beautiful Antebellum Blue and the addition of a couple of decor moulds gave this mirror an elegant new look:
$7 Thrift Store Mirror Makeover
The hooks were the perfect addition and highlighting those and the moulds with a little Golden Gem mousse really made those details pop:
And that’s 15+ thrifty mirror makeovers!
Were any of them new to you? Do you have any favorites??

Wow, I have seen all of them, just forgot how beautiful they all turned out. My favorite one is the one that came from the dresser that you and Jack re did together. I love the color you painted it and the birds and branches in the corners was the perfect addition! I remember the dresser that you re did with Jack also, a lot of years ago! It is fun to see all of these grouped together. Have a fun week with those boys of yours!
Christy says
Thank you, Mary!! I think that mirror with the birds is my favorite too! It sold really quickly and I was both happy and sad ha ha! And yes, doesn’t it seem like ages ago when we tackled that dresser together…I guess it was! Have a great day, my friend! XOXO

Janice Holt says
So many pretty mirrors. Hard to pick a favorite but if I had to, it would be the ones with the hooks and the one with the decoupage on the two corners (birds and limbs). Enjoyed.
Christy says
Thank you, Janice! The birds one is a favorite of mine too! Enjoy your day, my friend! XOXO

Christy says
Thank you, Peggy! That is a fun one! XOXO
J Martim says
The writing in in light blue is very hard to see especially if you have impaired vision. Could you please do it in a darker color? Thank you
Christy says
Hi there! I’m so sorry you are having trouble seeing. If you are viewing on a desktop computer, when you hover your mouse over the blue words, they will turn gray. XO
Sue Mellette says
Enjoyed seeing all the mirrors in one place! Very impressive to see the variety and transformations you created for each one. My all time favorite though is the Honky Tonk red Christmas mirror with the faux etching. I just love the red and the etching makes it pop. I also like the Oyster color of the mirror along with the bird transfer. The transfer really adds a fun touch to the mirror. All the transformations were absolutely beautiful. Thanks for sharing again. Enjoy this week with your boys! You deserve a break!!
Christy says
Thank you so much, Sue! I was so thrilled with how the Christmas one turned out and the bird one is probably my favorite. Have a a fantastic week! XOXO
Beverly Farkus says
How do you remove the heavy backboard from dresser mirrors?
Christy says
Hi Beverly! They are usually held in place with staples or some type of nail. For staples, I use a flathead screwdriver to pry the staples up and remove them with needle-nosed pliers. For nails, I use a metal putty knife to gently pry the backing up and off. I hope this helps! XO
Debbie in TX says
Number 16 is my favorite. I love the color and the special details that give it something extra. Great mirror collection!
Have fun w/ your boys : )
Christy says
Thank you so much, Debbie! And I love how that plain Jane mirror turned out too! XOXO
Cheryl says
Love this roundup of gorgeous mirror transformations Christy !! And we’ll take 2 extra bonus beauties any and everyday. Off topic, I always enjoy the reflection of your legs down to your feet in the before pics. Makes me smile !! 😁
Christy says
Thank you, Cheryl! And ha ha…there’s no way to hide them lol! XOXO
Janet Filberth says
Hi Christy!
I loved all the mirrors!
Not sure of my fav!!
Enjoy your time with the boys ! They grow up so fast !! Really ( mine are now 39 and 35, seems like just yesterday they were babies)
Janet
Christy says
Thank you, Janet! I really try to enjoy them as much as I can! Time does fly! XOXO
Liz Shivel says
Hi Christy, I enjoyed seeing all of them, but my two favorites are the red Christmas one with the saying on the mirror, and the mirror with the birds on the two corners.
Have you ever used a mirror where the glass is blackened a bit from old age or dampness, then used that as a background to use as part of the design, maybe for Halloween?
Enjoy your family time this week!
Christy says
Thank you, Liz! I have come across a few mirrors that have had that black appearance on them. I painted and sold the couple that only had minimal damage, and replaced the others with chalkboards as those older mirrors are really heavy. However, I LOVE the idea to use them for Halloween!! XOXO
Cara says
I always love your make overs, but the mirrors? LOVE THEM! I kind of have a mirror addiction… I need to stop, but they are always too pretty to turn down…
Christy says
Thank you so much, Cara!! Yes I am the same…I have a hard time passing them up!! XOXO
Karen H says
Christy, you sure did turn some plain Jane mirrors into some real beauties! How you come up with all the gorgeous ideas to make over these mirrors is amazing to me. I guess I have no imagination because I usually just have to steal your ideas! BTW, thanks for that! 🙂 xo
Christy says
Girl, you can steal my ideas any time! Honestly, I rarely have a full-on plan when I start, but once the paint goes on, ideas start to flow! Thank you!! XOXO
JosephineTomato says
Such great ideas. We are in the middle of a remodeling project and I am brainstorming ideas for above the fireplace, thinking a gallery wall of mirrors would be fun (there was one large mirror there previously) but wondering how to unite them all, not sure if the frames should all be a similar color or not.
Christy says
Thank you, Josephine! I have seen people prop the mirrors on the mantel, layering them in varying heights and that looks great too! I would probably do them all the same, but you could also do them in the same color family, but different? Have fun! XOXO
Lyn Edington says
I love these. I especially like the one with the fabric roses. Have you done a mirror with a rub on transfer?
Christy says
Thank you, Lyn! That was a fun one! I have used transfers on four of the mirrors in this post: 5, 13, 14, and 16. I’m not sure if you are thinking of another type of transfer? XOXO
Lyn Edington says
I was thinking more like one of the floral rub on transfers on the glass. Would it be distorted by the reflection?
Christy says
Oh gotcha…I have seen people use regular transfers on the mirror, but what I always wonder is how easy will they be to clean since you can’t really seal them on mirrors? Would windex mess them up in any way? You could certainly give it a try! 🙂
Joanne H says
It was so fun to take this visual journey through your transformed mirrors. It’s so amazing how even a simple refinish can transform an old mirror into something beautiful. And how rosettes, stripes, transfers and decoupage paper dress up a mirror. There are so many favorites it’s hard to pick one. Thanks for sharing.
Christy says
I am so happy to hear that you enjoyed this post! Thank you, Joanne! XOXO
Amy Hastings says
Hi! I enjoy your posts! Your floral arrangements look great! Could you maybe do a post sometime on how to arrange one? I can never make mine look that full or realistic. Have a great day!
Christy says
Thank you, Amy! You are so kind! Most of my arrangements are usually one kind of flower, but lots of them to make them really full. I buy my stems mostly at Michael’s, but also Hobby Lobby, and even Joann Fabrics. I look for really realistic stems, and I sometimes add some leafy stems that I find at Michael’s with their spring and summer collections. I hope this helps! XOXO
Ann says
Your ideas are so inspiring here with these mirrors. I’m going to share it with my readers this Thursday on a thrifty makeovers round-up post!
Christy says
Thank you so much, Ann! I appreciate the share! XOXO
