Hello beautiful, supportive friends! I truly appreciate all the well wishes after I shared all about my gum graft surgery. Y’all are truly the best! I’ve still got some recovering to do, so today, I decided to round up a bunch of my thrifty basket makeovers to share!
Baskets are something that I always keep my eye out for when thrifting or yard saling, and y’all know I LOVE a painted basket! I just love the texture of them and they are so functional!
You’ll notice a color theme today..that’s because those are my favorites, and these colors sell quickly for me in my booth!
Enjoy!

Up first is this vintage picnic basket I redid back in 2020 that I found for $6.25:
Like many of my basket makeovers, this one was painted white:
Then, I added some left over transfer pieces from this dresser makeover that were perfect for the top:
This is the Rose Celebration transfer.
See more of this makeover HERE.

Next up is this funky little basket I scored for free at a yard sale:
I wasn’t entirely sure there was help for it, but I stained it with Voodoo Gel Stain in Up in Smoke and gave the handles some fun stripes:
I also added a fun tag that I embellished with a transfer and a painted key, and I think it turned out pretty cute!
See this makeover and three others HERE.
You’ll see that I like to add various tags to my baskets just to add a little something unique!

This next basket is from the same post as the one above:
I had been using it to store potatoes and onions in our pantry for years, but I was done with it, so it got a very simple makeover:
I got this look by painting it and then immediately wiping it back off.
See more of this one and the one before, plus two more HERE.

I love this style of basket with the hard lid. I believe it’s called a pie basket.
I grabbed this one up for $5:
This one was primed in Rustoleum white and then painted in one coat of Sea Glass:
It’s amazing what just a coat of paint in this tranquil color can do, but I also added a sweet wreath to the top with a stencil…
See more of this one plus five more mini makeovers in this smalls post HERE.

Here’s another one just like the last one that I found at a steal for only $3:
I cut this right in two to create two separate pieces! The first is the perfect piece to display my gorgeous hydrangeas:
I added three mason jars filled with water to the inside to hold them.
And here is a peek at the back where I cut a piece of wood to fit:
See more of this makeover plus see what I did with the lid to the basket HERE.
The other half became a “wreath” for our front door and you can see that HERE.

This next basket is one I found at my antique mall for $8. I love that it had a wooden lid:
This one was painted white also..
I just did one quick coat, and then painted the top more solid white as a backdrop for this frenchy stencil:
I loved this one!
See more of this basket makeover including the stencil I used HERE.

These next two baskets were part of a four basket makeover post I shared. First up, this sturdy one I snagged for only a dollar at a yard sale:
This one got a striped makeover:
And I had to add a sweet tag to this one too!
The other one from this post started out like this:
I loved the size and shape of this one when I saw it at the thrift store. For $3 whole dollars it was mine!
This one got a very simple first coat like one I shared earlier. This is more of a heavy dry brush than actually painting, so I don’t cover every nook and cranny…
It is SO easy to do!
I added a tag to the front this time using a mini transfer from the Classic Vintage Labels set:
There are 26 mini transfers in that set!
See more of these two makeovers plus two more I shared in that post HERE.

This is a Longaberger basket that belonged to my mom. At some point, she painted apples on the top:
She was ready for a change and asked me to paint it for her.
Endless Shore Silk Paint to the rescue:
I added stripes and another Classic Vintage Mini Label to this one:
See more of this one HERE!

I made this next one over with a simple paint job when we first moved to this house:
However, Brennan decided it would make a fine chair. Clearly, it did not!
After sitting like this for ages, I finally decided to remove the weave on the top and fix it by adding a piece of hard board instead:
I also added the Gilded Floral transfer to the top as well!
And, the inside of the lid got some love too…
See more of this busted beauty HERE!

Next up is this picnic basket that I could not pass up for half off of $6.25:
I had tried a pattern on the outside that was a big fail, so it ended up all white:
I added some embellishments to this one as well…
I also shared in this post how to add a NO SEW liner to your baskets:
See that how-to plus the big fail I had HERE.
6
This next one is an older one. It was quite the ugly duckling, but for $3, I decided to take a chance on it:
SO much better, right?
The numbers were our old house numbers that I had saved.
This one got a new liner to match too:
See more of this one HERE.
5
I loved the size of this next one. This one was only $3 as well. All the baskets I scored for cheap like this were pre-pandemic, because it’s hard to find one for that cheap now!
It got one of my favorite custom Dixie Belle color mixes!
See the colors I used on this one and five more mini makeovers HERE.

Does this one count as a basket??
It is woven, so I say yes!
This more recent one got a Baja Gray makeover…
This one is a long way from where it started!
See this and one more in this post HERE!
3
How about a wire basket? This one was $3 also:
My favorite way to update wire baskets is to add a dry-brushing of Sea Glass. It gives it a bit of a patina look…
Much better!
See this and five more mini makeovers HERE.
2
This one started out rather plain and guess how much it was? $3!!
Paint and new feet fixed it right up!
This one got a new liner also:
See this makeover here.
1
And finally, this $4 one is from a recent smalls post:
I went for a striped makeover for this one as well:
I love the weathered finish on this one!
See this and five more smalls in this post HERE.
I hope you enjoyed this round up today!
And, I’m hoping I can get back to working again soon!

How fun to see all your baskets again! You have done alot of baskets over th years, but my favorite is still the one you made over to hold toilet paper that you put a tag on that said No. 2! That was fun! Hope your well soon!

Glad you are feeling better, we need your wisdom! Quick question, I have a number of baskets that need love but have broken pieces in the weaving. Is there anything to be done with these? Thanks for your help!
Christy says
Thank you, Celia! Ahh…that’s a tough one. I do try to inspect them for broken weave before buying as that will really show if painted in a light color. How about painting them darker? Maybe even black? That would hide that imperfection. Another option would be to strategically add a stripe in a darker calor just in the area where the imperfection is or add a tag to cover the imperfection if they are in the right area. Good luck! XOXO
