Hello beautiful friends! Welcome back! I’ve got a fun replay for y’all today! I originally shared this thrift store buffet lamp set makeover back in 2020, and it seems that whenever I share a post from that weird time, many tell me it was new to them. So, maybe this one will be new to you too!

I found these buffet lamps at the thrift store priced at $8.25 each:

I had a full punch card that gave me 20% off my purchase that day, so I ended up getting them for $6.60 a piece before tax. What a bargain! And, I loved that there was a pair of them! Sadly, they’ve done away with the punch card since then.

Clean

I gave them both a good wipe down to remove any dust. You don’t want that getting in your paint finish!

Paint

Then, I gave both lamps two coats of a custom mix of 50% Dixie Belle’s Cotton and 50% Driftwood. I just love this mix and haven’t used it in a while!

Then, to have fun with the spindly parts, I decided to use my FrogTape to add stripes! Y’all know I love my stripes!

I gave them two coats of Cotton and pulled the tape off right after applying the second coat, while the paint was still wet:

Highlight the Details with wax

I often sand to distress to highlight the details on my pieces as I love that look, but I like to use wax to do that sometimes too.

I decided to add some white wax to really play up the details on this pair:

Using a wax brush to apply the wax on detailed pieces like this really helps to get it in all those grooves.

I used a clean, soft cloth to remove the excess wax and buff it to a soft sheen. The wax also acts as a topcoat, so there is no need to seal after with anything else.

The shades

One of the original shades was missing, but I found these at HomeGoods for $9.99 each. I had originally just bought them to have on hand for future lamp makeovers, and they were the perfect size and color for these lamps!

That made these lamps about $17 each for what I had to buy. They ended up selling quickly for $39 each in my booth.

Here you can see how the white wax is nestled perfectly in all those details…

These lamps looked so pretty in my living room that I was tempted to keep them.

Another close up of how the wax plays up the details…

 

The stripes are easy to add if you use your tape as a guide. Add a strip of tape at the bottom, then another right next to that one, then a third. Then go back and remove the second piece and continue to use that piece as a guide for the rest. You can see more on how easy it is to add stripes with no math HERE.
