Hello beautiful friends! I am so excited to be here on a Wednesday sharing two drawers repurposed for spring! My lovely friend, Krista from The Happy Housie is hosting her Seasonal Simplicity tour again which means it is time to start thinking about Spring! Who’s ready for some warmer weather??
Today we are all sharing simple spring projects!
Be sure to look for my friends’ projects at the bottom!
I am especially excited about today’s project because it means I can finally share what I did with these 99¢ drawers I picked up at the thrift store a couple of months ago:
I stared at them and stared at them but there was no way I could reimagine them in their current state. Plus the fronts were a bit offset as you can see below:
I decided that in addition to centering the front panels, I would also need to cut them down.
cut
I removed the front panels first by unscrewing them from the back. I’ve included a few affiliate links so you can find the products I love.
Now enter my miter saw…I was a little bit nervous to cut these down, I’ll admit, since they are kind of tall for the saw, but I wanted a nice clean cut. I knew this saw could do that so I went for it anyway being as careful as possible…
The saw didn’t quite cut all the way through, so I had to use my handsaw to cut thought the rest of the way.
Then I cut a new back out of scrap luan…
And after sanding all the freshly cut areas of both the drawer and the new back piece with 220 grit sandpaper, I attached it with wood glue and small nails, and reattached the drawer front:
Now I had a cute box to play with. I did the other one the same way.
Paint
Then I painted them both in my go-to white, Behr’s Bit of Sugar made into DIY chalk paint. Today, I would use Fluff by Dixie Belle.
I dug through my stash and found two pulls that worked great and my boxes were ready for a simple spring craft!
Drawers Repurposed for spring
They were now the perfect size to add a sweet spring arrangement to:
Right??
Now I am no floral arranging expert by any means, but these didn’t turn out half bad.
As much as I love real flowers, I hate spending money on something that is going to die. It might also have something to do with the fact that my old house had tons of fresh flowers to cut and bring in and enjoy all Summer and well into the Fall. We don’t have that luxury here, unfortunately.
So this is a great way to add a little Spring to your space without having to throw it out and replace it in a week or two.
The other drawer got pretty pink blooms:
The pull on this one came from an old dresser that I couldn’t salvage. I was at least able to keep the pretty pulls. A little spray paint and this was perfect for this drawer.
These arrangements were so simple to put together, and you don’t have to have an old drawer…you can use any cute container you can find, or even a teapot!
Both arrangements started with a floral foam block I picked up at Michaels:
I didn’t even glue these in place.
I used these clematis picks I found at Michaels also as the base for both:
They were part of their spring florals and were 50% off. I paid $6 and one was enough for both arrangements.
I snipped four pieces off using my cutting pliers…
And poked them willy nilly into the foam…
Then I used one of these bunches I picked up for $5 also at Michaels:
I cut the stems off of this one as well and started poking them in…
I continued adding them and adjusting the greenery until I got a look I liked:
So simple! Of course the drawer is the best part…that part would be more my specialty! 🙂
And another peek at the other one…
I didn’t share how this one came together because I’ll be on FB LIVE in our Make it New FaceBook Group at 1:30 pm EST sharing it in real time! If you aren’t a member of our group already, it’s a place where we share nothing but repurposed and upcycled treasures. You can request to join HERE!

Really lovely 🙂 I’ve seen these also put on walls to hold bibs and bobs. So many uses.
Christy says
Thank you, Petra! Yes…these would be great for that too! XOXO

How Clever. I never would had thought about cutting the drawers in 1/2.. Such a great idea for some of them long, narrow drawers that I have laying around. How cute these would be down the center of my dining room table or used to put a pot of herb plants in.
Thanks 2 U, I can now get to work on the drawers that I have here. :-)Thank You
Christy says
Thanks, Colleen!! I was having a hard time coming up with an idea for these and I kept coming back to the idea of cutting them down, so I just went with it. These would be perfect for your dining table! Have fun with yours! XOXO
Christina in SW FL says
Christy, I adore the new size of the boxes!! Of course the white is perfect. 🙂 The flowers look perfect in them. Way to go!!!
Christy says
Thank you, Christina! My Mom has already claimed one of them lol! XOXO
Janice Holt says
Such cute boxes and it is always good to see something for spring. We had 9 days of rain last week here in Northwest Alabama and flooding so it was refreshing to see something that was not gloomy.
Christy says
Thank you, Janice! I think everyone is ready for Spring…the rain has been non stop here as well! XOXO
Olivia says
Love the repurposed draws. I think the pulls you chose are perfect.
Christy says
Thank you, Olivia! XO

Oh my Christy!!! ????????????
I LOVE LOVE LOVE ❤️❤️❤️ these little cubbies!
Can’t wait to find a few of these to redo! I actually passed by a bathroom vanity out on the roadside with drawers just down the road from us last week, my hubby was with me and I knew he would have a hubby fit if I made him stop so I could pick up the drawers! Lol
Christy says
I’m so glad you like them, Kim, thank you!! Your Hubby sounds like mine ha ha! XOXO
Mary Kaiser says
Totally love how those turned out, they are so beautiful!! So glad you finished working through the rest of your 1st stash. You are the most creative person that I know, ever!!!
Christy says
Thanks, Mary! I too am so excited that I finished these final pieces from the first haul. You are always so sweet to me and I appreciate you so much! XOXO

So cute! They looked like little sewing drawers but maybe not.Anyway, I’m on the hunt for little drawers now! LOL
Christy says
Thanks, Sharon! They do look just like sewing drawers now especially. Good luck in your search! XOXO
Jen @ Rambling Renovators says

Christy says
Thanks so much, Jen! XO

Wow! Such a cute project- and would look beautiful styled on a bookshelf as well, wouldn’t it? These would also make great little “planters” for gifts, too. Brilliant, as always Christy. So glad you could join in today’s hop!
Christy says
Thanks so much, Krista! These would be perfect on a bookshelf…they are the perfect size for that. Thanks for hosting such a fun hop and inviting me to join, my friend! XOXO
Patricia Wilson says
Wow, you are a woman that has tools and knows how to use them. I love your distressed looks and what you do with your finds. Bet you are a “wheeler/dealer and get them for practically nothing.
Christy says
Yeah, girl! I didn’t always know what to do with those tools, but I eventually got tired of waiting for my Hubby ha ha! Unfortunately around here there isn’t much wheeling and dealing you can do at our thrift stores, but I do seem to sniff out the deals! Thanks so much Patricia! XOXO
Michelle says
Oh my gosh, too cute!! I want one!! Wish I lived closer!!! You have such great vision. Thx for sharing.
Christy says
Thank you, Michelle! You’d have to fight my Mom for one lol, she already claimed one! XOXO
Cyndy Cook says
I genuinely had my doubts that you could make these junky drawers into anything worth saving, but hats off to you, madame! I would buy those in any shop today. In fact, they would be a wonderful floral shop surprise delivery for anyone with a simple jar or vase & live flowers. Christie, your ingenuity and creativity never ceases to amaze me!
Christy says
I am so glad I was able to surprise you, Cyndy! And yes, these would be lovely holding a jar of fresh flowers as well! Thank you so much!! XOXO
Rhonda Hallstrom says

Christy says
Thanks, Tauni! I was a bit nervous to cut them, but so glad I did! XO

Those drawers are so sweet. I never would have thought to do that to the drawers. My fav is the white/green floral one.

Thanks so much, Ange! I think the green and white is my favorite as well! XOXO
Mariele Storm says
They look adorable!
By the way… you can get those same foam blocks at Dollar Tree. I use them all the time for my floral arrangements! Like you, I hate to spend money on something I’ll have to replace so quickly.
Christy says
Thanks, Mariele! And thanks for the dollar store tip…I’ll keep that in mind for next time! XOXO
Jennifer Hadfield says
This is adorable! I need to keep my eye out for an old dresser now! I pinned it 🙂
xoxo

Cecilia from Georgia says
Girl! you need to start a reality show!! Your ideas can be copied and I like that. The little drawers are perfect for so many uses. I found a little drawer that was off the cabinet of my first sewing machine. It’s solid wood and I am going to turn it into a cute container like these. Thanks for such a clever idea!! XOXO
Christy says
Aww you are too sweet, Cecilia, thank you! Your drawer is probably much prettier than these started out! Have fun with it! XOXO
Rose Lefebvre says
Awwww, so cute! Love it and would look so nice at my place!!!! Wink!
Christy says
Thanks, Rose! You sound like my Mom ha ha…she already claimed one for herself! XOXO

Christy says
Thank you so much, Aniko! XO
Pam A says
I love everything you do and save most to pinterest to refer to later. These boxes are wonderful. I thought you should know that the clematis at Michael’s is not available online nor in my two local stores and it adds such a distinct unique flavor to your arrangements (and I keep planting it in my yard!). But I have a question for you — is it not possible to cut your box as far as possible on your miter saw, then flip it over and continue the cut from the back? I haven’t used one so please let me know. Thanks.
Christy says
Thank you so much, Pam! It’s a shame it has sold out. They carried this same stem last spring as well, so if you don’t have my luck finding it this year, be on the look out next year! As for cutting the drawers, the miter saw only missed cutting all the way through by about a half an inch, so it was easier to just go the rest of the way with the hand saw. XOXO
Lucy AKINS says
ooo…this is so awesome! I love it.!
