Hello lovelies! I have a BRAND NEW HAUL to share with you today!! Sharing a haul and working through each piece one by one has been such a great way to keep my hoarding tendencies under control! I used to shop and shop AND SHOP for my finds. I shopped at thrift stores, estate sales, yard sales, and my favorite: the curb! Any venture out of the house had me detouring to stop by my favorite thrift stores. The result was a huge hoard of treasures that were just getting buried deeper and deeper by more stuff!
When I was determined to get my hoarding problem under control a few years ago, I gathered several items, photographed them, and shared the makeovers of them one by one until every piece in the photograph was completed. Eventually, I made it through that huge pile!
And now, I only shop when my current haul is almost complete. Crossing each piece off one by one has been an amazing way to stay focused!
And without further delay, here is my newest pile of loot!
Just look at all that goodness!
Up first is this jewelry box I picked up at the thrift store for way more than I would have liked. It was $12.98:
It was in great shape though. My only concern is how to remove the top two pulls that are broken, but I’ll figure that out when I get there!
Next up is this little chair I picked up at the same yard sale I found the chair from the set I shared on Tuesday:
The other chair was priced at $5 and I think I assumed this one was too, but I see now that it was actually $10. In my defense, I was on drugs at the time. (Remember that awesome dental surgery??)
This next piece is one of a few pieces that a lovely local reader offered to me. She has rental properties and often has items that tenants leave behind. When she offered to drive a load of items to my house, of course I said yes!
A couple of pieces weren’t salvageable as one had lead paint and another was pressed wood with water damage, but I was able to use a few things.
This retro piece is a sewing machine cabinet:
Very interesting piece!
She also brought this tray table type thing:
It’s not real sturdy, so it may be repurposed into something else!
She also brought this frame and I can always use good frames:
And she brought this set of paddles as well:
There are a couple more things she brought that I kept for parts and spare wood. (Thank you for the goodies!)
This shadow box was a thrift store find. It was marked $12, but all green tags were half off at Goodwill, so I got it for $6:
I actually made something similar from a frame HERE back in the spring and it sold right away.
I also picked up this green tagged item that ended up costing me $2.50:
And I also found this pretty lamp that ended up being $6:
I picked up this the week prior when all orange tags were 50% off:
It ended up costing me $2.50! No haul would be complete without a flatware box!
What else is no haul complete without? Baskets!
I just have this one this time and it was $6 at the thrift store:
I can’t believe the Swensons gave this gem up!
While I don’t normally go thrifting while I still have pieces to work on, I did go when my niece was visiting back in June, and this is one of the few things I came home with:
I believe I paid $8 for it.
I also picked up this silver plated tray while thrifting with my niece. I really lucked out on this one as all green tags were 70% off! I ended getting this tray for less than $5:
And this little zippered case is another item I found while thrifting with my niece. It was $5:
I have two more lamps in this haul, and I paid $10 for both:
I also have two mirrors…
The oval one was $10 and the rectangular one was $6.
I love playing with simple boxes and this small one wasn’t a bad deal for only $3:
I also picked up this recipe box for $3:
Back when I thought there was a possibility that I would get more floor space at the antique mall, I picked up this quilt rack:
This thing is heavy and sturdy! It was $15 at the thrift store. I thought that the narrow bars on either side might make it a good display piece for hanging decoupage papers and stencils. I don’t have enough floor space for it now so I don’t really have a use for it. Into the haul it goes!
Next up is this fantastic $60 thrift store find:
My sister hates to thrift (how can she be related to me?) but she and I met for lunch one day last week and she offered to go thrifting with me since I needed to find my new haul. Thank goodness because this store does not help to load items and she was a great help! Luckily, it is two pieces!
She also helped me with this gorgeous table:
I found this one at the Restore by her house for $49. It had a coffee table and end table to match, but I opted to just buy this console table.
You should have seen us trying to squeeze it all into my jeep…but we did it!
I loved this charming find…
The legs fold up underneath for easy storage. I paid $6.99 for it.
I also found this bed tray that has foldable legs:
It was $6.98.
This was a solid frame for $6:
I can always do something with a good frame!
This large spice rack was $5.99:
They always sell, but I usually get them for cheaper than that. It was in great shape though!
And this set of wall art tiles were $4 a piece:
I thought they would paint up pretty!
And how about this cute chair??
This was more than I would normally pay for a single chair at $20, but with that cane seat that was in pristine condition, I had to have it!
And finally, my favorite piece of the bunch is this gorgeous dresser I scored for $75:
I love this one so much that it will be my very first makeover of this haul, and I’ll be back with it on Tuesday!
UPDATE!! No need to wait to see how this beauty turned out! See it HERE now!
What are your favorites?? I’m so excited to have a brand new haul to play with!

Wowza! You have found some amazing things for your new haul! You really don’t mess around! I love all the things you found and I am excited to see what you do with everything. I know it will all be made beautiful again!
Christy says
It’s funny…it seems like each time I go to pull a new haul together, I don’t think I have enough. That was definitely the case this time since I wasn’t able to shop again until the last minute, but then I start pulling it all out lol! Can’t wait to start this one!! Have a wonderful weekend! XOXO
Janette Deans says
Omgoodness, well the huge dresser is gorgeous and I can’t wait to see what you do with that one, but my favourite has to be that wonderful, heavy duty table with all the beautiful carving, its stunning. I have to say I like all this haul, that cute little chair is so cute, I just look forward to seeing how you transform it all… Enjoy !!!xx
Christy says
Yay! Thank you, Janette!! I am really excited about this one too! Isn’t that table amazing?? Can’t wait to redo that one! XOXO
Vicki Bray says
Ok – don’t know if it’s my favorite, but I can’t wait to see what you do with that retro sewing machine cabinet.
Christy says
Girl, me too! I never would have bought that, but sometimes those pieces end up being my favorites lol! XOXO
gwen says
Can’t wait Christy! You have been my inspiration for years and after a rough patch in my life (husband passed unexpectedly) I’m looking forward to getting back into doing something with all my hoarded pieces! Many of yours are mine also. I gave up my store, but have been doing well on Marketplace. Keep them coming!
Christy says
Oh I am so sorry to hear of your husband’s sudden passing, Gwen. Having this creative outlet will be so good for you, and I am so glad to hear that you are ready to get back into it. That is what he would surely have wanted! XOXO
Marcie Lovett says
Why does it feel like MY birthday when you unveil a new haul, Christy? I get so excited to see what’s next 😁 Great variety, and you picked up some really big pieces this time. You might be able to slip other pulls into the rings of the pretty little jewelry box. I have no doubt you’ll find some creative solution. BTW, the 1940s folding tray was a steal! I bought one last year for much more and didn’t discover that it was broken until I got it home. I mean, really broken 😢 If yours is in good shape, you might consider leaving it as is, they sell for a lot on vintage sites.
Christy says
Oh ha ha! I love that, Marcie! I am excited too!! I did luck into some fabulous pieces this time for sure, and I just love that little tray! It has some painting on the top, and the finish isn’t that great, so we shall see, but I do love that piece! XOXO
Julie Henry says
MORNING SUNSHINE….LOVE THE NEW HAUL CAN’T WAIT TO SEE WHAT THE RESULTS WILL BE! QUICK QUESTION…I HAVE AN OLD MIRROR I USE ABOVE MY VANITY IN MY BATHROOM, I CLEANED AND SANDED IT APPLIED BOSS AROUND 4-5 YESTERDAY AFTERNOON. IS IT SAFE TO PAINT NOW OR DO I HAVE TO WAIT THE 24 HRS. IT SAYS ON THE JAR? THANK YOU FOR ANY INFORMATION. HAVE A WONDERFUL WEEKEND AND LOOKING FORWARD TO YOUR FIRST MAKEOVER! JULIE HENRY DON’T MIND THE CAPS…I’M LAZY AND HALF BLIND…LOL
Christy says
Good morning, Julie! That should be plenty of dry time! I say let it dry overnight, so about 10-12 hours should definitely be enough time. XOXO
Nana Diana says
Oh My Gosh, Christy! WHAT a haul. You have lots of fun (and work) ahead of you. I have some projects I really need to ‘get at’ but hubby’s health has kept me from doing many ‘me’ things. Such is life! lol. I am living vicariously through you and your treasures. Hugs-Diana
Christy says
Thank you, Diana! I totally get it…there are far more important things to tend to sometimes. I hope I do you proud lol! XOXO
Deb says
The dresser was definitely a bargain. I wish I lived closer so I could have you paint it for me in duck egg. My sister does a couple craft shows a year and usually has success with the little kids chairs painted in bright colors. I like to paint lamps as it is easy to change up your decor by just changing the color of a lamp. It’s finding a new lampshade at a decent price that sends me on the hunt. Looking forward to seeing what you do with that interesting sewing table.
Great Haul!
Christy says
Thanks, Deb! I knew that dresser was coming home with me as soon as I spied it at the thrift store! And yes, kids chairs are so fun to play with color! I have a hoard of shades, so I’m hoping to be able to match some up to my lamps because they can be very costly! I have the best luck at Homegoods if I do need to buy one. And isn’t that sewing table unique? I have an idea for that one! XOXO
Stacey says
Where did you find that last dresser for $75??
Can’t wait to see what you do with it all! Great haul!
Christy says
Thanks, Stacey! I found that dresser at the DAV thrift store. It is one of their oldest locations and it is the smallest, so they price their furniture to sell! There is a location down the street from me, but it would have easily been twice that at that location! XOXO
Cory says
I’m so excited about this haul! You pick things up that I would, too. Now I need to get my thrift hoarding under control. Somehow over the past two years, I’ve got myself in a bind with just too much stuff. I’m trying to stay away from acquiring more (exception: my recent vacation finds). But I really have to focus on organizing and getting things done. Do you have posts about your process? I’d love to learn from you!!
Christy says
Yay, I am too! The best way I have found to tame that hoard is to gather a bunch of items, photograph them, and then cross them off one by one, just like I do here on the blog. When I first started this method, I had SO much stuff! Once I finished that first load, I created another and then another, until the hoard became next to nothing. Then, when you start to get to the end of your pile, you get to shop guilt free! Having a large pile of things that I am currently trying to get through really stops me from wanting to bring more home. You don’t have to photograph your items, but maybe just make a list, and cross them off as you complete them? Good luck! XOXO
Niki says
Too many nice things to pick from, but I think my favorite is the cute little caned chair. That dresser is gorgeous- can’t wait to see what you do with it!! Have a great weekend Christy, see ya Tuesday!
Christy says
I didn’t realize I had so much stuff until I started to pull it all out lol! I love that little chair too…even at that price, I couldn’t leave it behind lol. See ya Tuesday with that dresser! Have a great weekend! XOXO
MrsSW says
Great haul, Christy.
Can’t pick a favorite but I can see the zippered case done in pink and white with a ballet motif.
Sheila
Christy says
Thanks, Sheila! Ooh I LOVE that idea! XOXO
Linda Walker says
Gosh Christy – I love everything you picked up. I can’t wait to see what you do with the retro looking cabinet. When I look at it, I see stripes on the vertical side of the door. That should be a fun piece to do. I always look forward to Tuesday’s and Thursday’s to see what you have to share. Everything is so fantastic and pretty. You inspire me so much! I wish you were closer to me! Linda in Texas.
Christy says
Thank you so much, Linda! I really appreciate that!! I am interested in that cabinet as well and I already have a couple of ideas!! XOXO
Marietta R Walker says
Favorites? All of them!
Christy says
Ha ha yay!!! XOXO
Caye Cooper says
Wow Christy! It’s like Christmas at your house! I love it.
I LOVE how you display your stash of things to work on. I am such a terrible hoarder, and I have a friend who encourages me to get more, more. Yikes! Holding myself back from my “treasure” stores is a real struggle. I have to pull back really hard on the reins–whoa horsie, whoa! LOL
With each piece you display I try to imagine what I’d do with it, and sometimes I am left completely blank.
LOVE your site. Hope you have a great weekend Christy. XXOO
Christy says
Aww thank you SO much, Caye!! That means a lot! I do feel like it’s Christmas when I get a new haul to play with ha ha! Finding everything is definitely the most fun part, but working through most of what I have before shopping again makes it even more enjoyable! I don’t have anywhere to store a ton of things anyway…a blessing in disguise! XOXO
Sandra W Magle says
Back when I had my shop in the 1990’s early 2000’s and Shabby was first in. This is how I worked furniture through my shop—I would do a big collection—for a change of season’s and then flip the entire shop. I wasn’t selling paints but all sorts of antiques and home decor. Selling furniture was my big ticket items. I can see this is really the best way to do it…it will be fun to see what new colors and techniques you use! Great finds!
Christy says
Ooh I bet I would have loved your shop!! This really is the best way to stay focused too. Thanks, Sandra! XOXO
Cyndel says
That flat lamp caught my eye — I’ve been wanting something for my oblong kitchen table that could snug up against the wall instead of taking up table space and blocking the view across the table. Will watch that makeover with special interest, esp. if you top it with a flat shade.
Christy says
Isn’t that lamp so pretty? It might just need a pretty shade! I don’t have a flat one in my stash, but you never know what may turn up! XOXO
p says
Now THAT is a wonderful haul. I love your pre reno haul pics 🙂
Ohhh, so many great pieces. That sewing cabinet is intereasting for sure!
I love the cute caned chair – sooo cute. The shadow box looks fun.
Those tiles have a lot of potential. Can’t wait to see how you finish them.
And… so many frames – and those mirrors ! I love the oval one.
Your decision to work thru specific ‘hauls’ is a brilliant motivation.
I need to put that idea to better use. Definitely !!
Thanks as always for the Preview, and can’t wait for each piece.
p
Christy says
Thank you, P! This haul does have some good ones! I love to pull everything out to see it all together. I didn’t realize I had amassed so much so quickly lol! And yes, working through hauls is a great way to stay on task! XOXO
p says
p.s.
Can’t wait to see how you do the tray tables. I’d love to have one (or 2) of these. Could be really handy for tiny crafting stuff while curled up for the evening. 🙂
I’ve not seen these in my travels.
Christy says
Isn’t it funny that I have not one, but two tray tables? I’ve only every redone one in all my years! XOXO
Phyllisa says
Hi Christy,
I don’t message often, but I keep up with all that you are doing and wish
it were me doing it! I have done a few furniture makeovers. I even hand
painted a few. Gave them as gifts. I also paint canvases. The selling is
the hard part for me. With the “new” idea of transfers, decorating furniture
is easier now and I might give it a try. I love the caned-seat chair and
the gorgeous dresser. I know I’ll love what you do with them.
I’ll keep following.
Christy says
Hello, Phyllisa! Thank you so much! I wish I had the ability to hand paint, but yes, with transfers, it has made it easy for anyone to be an artiste! I hope you do give them a try. Thank you for saying hello! XOXO
Cecilia says
Woohoo! A new haul- it feels like Christmas. I have a very similar silver tray so can’t wait to see what you do with yours. Love that table with the carving. Can’t wait to see what you come up with for each piece. 😊
Cecilia
Christy says
Yay!! Yes…it feels like Christmas to me too!! I have already tackled two pieces for this week so far woohoo! XOXO
Michele M. says
YAY!!!!!! Another GREAT haul! I cannot wait to see the magic happen with these great “base” pieces!!!! I actually have goosebumps. Ok, that’s just weird. LOL. (But true but maybe because it’s 68 awesome degrees outside and I am sitting next to an open window.) But I honestly think it’s b/c I am excited to see your next creations. Yippppeeeee!!!!!!
Christy says
Thank you, Michele! There are so many goodies in this bunch, and love the goosebumps. They are definitely due to the excitement coming out of your pores ha ha! XOXO
Geri says
Love the new haul! I can’t wait to see what you do with it. I love those spice rack make overs best I think!!
Have a fabulous weekend 😁
Christy says
Thank you, Geri! I love spice racks too, and this one was in such great condition!! Have a great week! XOXO
Debra Hubbs says
Some great finds there! Looking forward to seeing their transformation. I have a very similar jewelry box only in a lighter stain that I want to paint. I like that built in shadow box and that dresser is gorgeous.
Christy says
Thanks, Debra! This should be a fun one to work through! I loved that jewelry box and the dresser will be up tomorrow woot woot! XOXO
May says
Great haul. I was interested in the cane bottom chair. My mom had a set of six of them for the dining room to go with a long drop leaf cherry table. She had a hurricane lamp ( aka; Gone with the wind lamp) that sat on top of the table when not being used for dining. Mom was a big ‘tique collector before it was fashionable, when ‘tiques were thought of old junk. Mid century thinking.
I love to see your new hauls and what you do with them.
Christy says
I love that chair! I bet your mom’s set was gorgeous! She probably had so many treasures! XOXO
Kate says
Love it all! I don’t refinish a thing…yet…but you inspire my creativity in so many other ways:)
Christy says
Oh I love that, Kate! Thank you!! XOXO
Robin says
So much fun with all the different items you picked up. That console table is nicely ornate. Can’t wait to see how that one turns out.
Christy says
I always enjoy the hunt so much! Looking forward to that one too! XOXO
Adeline...Addie says
YAY!!! I love the haul posts. I can sit back with my mocha frap and think how you are going to do all the work!!!…..
That charming bed tray looks to be a real bleeder….very cute though.
Nice haul!!~Now get busy!!!…I know you will and they will all be great!
Christy says
Yay…I’m so glad you love them, Addie! I also know you enjoy seeing all the things that will never make it to the landfill on my watch ha ha! The tray may bleed, indeed…will have to BOSS that one. Have a great rest of your week! XOXO
