Hello, beautiful friends! Thanks for all the well wishes for my poor back! I sure do put it through a lot, but I am well on the mend and was even able to get to work on Thursday’s Furniture Fixer Upper makeover. Today, I’m pulling out a painted marble top table that now lives in my home office.
Don’t worry… I didn’t paint the marble top, just the base!
It used to live in our bedroom and was used as my bedside table. It looked like this back then:
I found this table at an estate sale for $60 and it worked perfectly with my Hubby’s furniture at the time. He only bought one nightstand when he bought his set, and I had a dressing table near my side of the bed at our old house which didn’t leave much room for a night table. I loved this table as soon as I saw it!
Here it was in our bedroom before I painted the furniture in there:
That table was a bit on the small side, so I ended up swapping it for this drum table I had in my office that was a bit taller, and it had already been painted in Fluff:
You can see our bedroom and furniture makeover HERE.
I wasn’t quite ready to take a brush to this pretty, ornate table at the time, so it lived in my office that way for a while.
But, it stuck out like a sore thumb in my sea of white and neutrals in there, so I went for it!
Clean
I started by giving it a good cleaning first. My favorite for this is Dixie Belle’s White Lightning. It comes in a powder form that you mix. I add 1 Tbsp to a half gallon of warm water…
Paint
I started with a base coat of Driftwood…
That was in preparation for my favorite Moonshine Metallic, Steel Magnolia!!
The metallics go on a bit sheer, so you will get better coverage if you paint one coat of similar chalk paint color first.
This is one coat of Driftwood, followed by one coat of Steel Magnolia:
The coverage is fantastic over the Driftwood! You can also use French Linen as a base.
No Sealer required!
The Moonshine Metallics are self-sealing, there is no need to add a topcoat.
The after
I love the new look of my now painted marble top table in my office!
It works so beautifully with the neutrals I have in there!
And I love how all the details still stand out even though it’s all one color now!
Dixie Belle has eight gorgeous metallic colors in all:
If you’ve followed me since our last house, you might remember when I slip-covered this sofa:
My sweet MIL gave this to my Hubby before we were married and it used to live in our bedroom.
It started out yellow and didn’t match a thing, but it is so darned comfy and I loved the shape of it, so I decided to make a cover for it.
It is perfect here in my office!
And my painted table looks so pretty with it!
As you can see, I did not paint the marble top, only the base…
There are so many gorgeous details on this table!
My roses are still hanging in there several years later…
See how I made this arrangement with faux water HERE.
My own projects usually sit in waiting for forever, so I was so happy to get this one done, and I have been enjoying it in there ever since!
I’ll be back on Thursday with my Furniture Fixer Upper crew sharing what I did with this cabinet:
UPDATE: Lucky you! No need to wait! See how pretty this cabinet turned out HERE now!
Bye bye for now!

Christy, the table is beautiful – I knew you would not paint the marble top! So glad your back is mending – hauling furniture around and everything involved in getting it done requires a lot of movin’ and shakin’…LOL! Checked out your faux water for flowers, easy peasy….and lovely.
Christy says
Thank you, Janice! I’m so glad I finally took a brush to this table. And yes, I definitely put my back through it! Those flowers were so easy to do! XOXO

I remember this! It’s lovely, and it inspires me to get my Steel Magnolias out and paint something else with it.

So, so pretty! Love the metallic shimmer. And your cute little couch! It’s still one of my favorites of your projects.

Thank you, Cecilia! I thought at first when we moved in that I would put it in the kitchen and pair it with the pedestal table I redid for in there and the two chairs I redid to go with it. I thought it would be so charming! Except, we couldn’t fit it through the doorway lol, so it ended up in my office which is just inside the front door. I love it in there though! XOXO

I was worried about how this was going to turn out because it was pretty on its own, but you did it justice. You chose the perfect colors and now it looks like a Gustavian gem. I love it!

Absolutely stunning, Christy. It’s perfect! And it looks like it has always belonged right there next to that amazing recover job you did. You are a gal of so much talent. Lordy I sure wish we lived closer. I could soooo use your advice on things. Well done – it is a GREAT piece. Just wow. (And I am not at all into metallics, but it is true perfection. Love your choices.)

A little bling is a good thing, and the details on this table show so well with this metalic paint 😉 Great choice. It looks perfect in your office.
I love the curves on that sofa !!
Glad your back is recovering. Take it easy so you fully heal.
Christy says

You did a gorgeous job! I love that table. I’m sorry you’ve had back problems. As a tall person with lower back issues, I empathize & send prayers for healing. ♥️
Christy says
Thanks so much, Cory! And I appreciate the prayers for sure! It is on the mend, so I am being careful! XOXO
Mary says
Oh Christy, once again painting the piece just totally transforms, doesn’t it? The table is beautiful! And love it with the sofa, pillows, lamp, etc. I love the slipcover too! You are one very talented woman 🙂 (how did you fix your back? I’ve been struggling off and on for 2 years!) Always enjoy your creations so much. Thank you for inspiring me once again!
Christy says
Aww I appreciate that so much, Mary, thank you! I am SO glad I painted the table! I used a heating pad and ibuprofen for a couple of days for my back and that helped. Also, I kept moving once I was able to. I find that if I sit too long it gets stiff. Back issues are no fun. So glad to hear you’re feeling inspired! XOXO
