I am loving these cooler days, y’all! It really gets me thinking about the holidays, and with that, I have an easy project to share with you today! Sweet friends, I’m sharing a super simple way to turn old frames into new holiday decor!
These two frames are getting updated:

The larger, fancier of the two is from my current haul and the other is one I had lying around the garage.
I had Jack remove what was inside and give them a good wipe down for me:

Then, they both got three coats of Cotton, Dixie Belle’s whitest white:

(Don’t let me fool you there, Jack did the first two coats and I came in and did the third ha ha!)
How to Turn Old Frames into New Holiday Decor!
The easiest way to turn old frames into new holiday decor is with decoupage paper!
Specifically, Redesign’s Fiber Papers. They have a texture that looks so good framed.
I chose these whimsical bunnies from the Bunny Wonderland set that includes a few sizes of designs:

Here is a reminder of what the smaller frame looked like before:

I picked this one up at the thrift store for $4.99 and had planned to use if for a sign in my booth, but it ended up being a bit too small.
But it was perfect for framing a holiday bunny!
The back of the original art was already white, but if not, be sure to paint it white first, so the design will show up nice and bright. That is key!
Attaching the decoupage paper
To attach it, I applied one coat of Redesign’s Decoupage Gel in Matte (available in matte or shine):

I like to apply it with a 2″ Foam n Dandy brush which fits perfectly inside the jar!
Then, I laid down my decoupage paper and smoothed it out using my transfer tool to make sure it was adhered well all over.
Another coat of decoupage gel was added to the top to seal:

All that was left to do was add it to my frame!
I did not add the glass back for photos since the reflection makes it hard to photograph, but I will be adding that back to this sweet art:

I loved the matting, and I figured the gold could definitely work for the holidays!

And a little closer…how sweet is that bunny?

This frame was sanded to distress a bit and then I sealed it with Rustoleum spray satin sealer before adding the art back.

It will look more finished once the glass is added back.

Frame number two
Here is a reminder of how this one started:

Would you believe this one was only $2.99 at the thrift store? I hit it lucky that day!
For this larger frame, I chose these adorable bunny friends or perhaps, siblings?

They’re so cute and festive!
I decoupaged them to the back of the original art the same way as I did the smaller one above. I did have to paint the back of that one white first.
The only thing I did differently for this one is I sealed the frame with Best Dang Wax in clear, applying it with my La Petite brush:

And then buffing it in and wiping away any excess with a clean, soft cloth:

Here is how this one looks now…

I think this one might be a keeper!

And yes, only 36 days until Christmas!!

Is that crazy or what?

I just love this one! They look like they’re having such a good time!

And I still have several more designs from this set that I could use on other projects!
Find this super cute set HERE in my Etsy Shop.

I have a bunch of festive holiday items to create with, including transfers, moulds, and decoupage papers, in stock…just search “holiday” or “Christmas” in the search field in my Etsy shop.

Those are so adorable! They look like they have always been in the frames! I can’t get over how much detail some of the frames have once you put the paint on them, it brings out the details so much! I love how they turned out! Can’t wait to see how you redo the big piece!
Christy says
Thank you, Mary! Now I want to keep these and decorate with them lol. The little bunny faces are just so cute! And yes, I love how paint brings out all the pretty details! See you Thursday, my friend! XOXO

Christy, these bunnies are so sweet! How cute they would look in a child’s room all decorated for Christmas – or anywhere for a whimsical touch. I had to laugh when you noted the one might be a keeper – i just finished one with the Yuletide Hearth transfer and told my hubby I hope it doesn’t sell…haha… have a beautiful week!
Christy says
Thank you, Janice! I do really want to keep that one lol. It’s hard not to want to keep all the things ha ha! XOXO

Christy says
Thank you, Cecilia! This was a simple and fun project for two thrifted frames. And yes, I couldn’t believe it when I asked Alexa how many days till Christmas so I could set up my little truck. I better get busy! XOXO

Good morning, Christy!!
I love your makeover of the frames. I wish I could find affordable ones near me. The closest Goodwill to us is 30 minutes away. Their frames are at least $9.99 for a smaller one. The bunnies are so cute for Christmas. When I think of bunnies, it’s usually for Easter but I love them for Christmas. Christy, thank you so much for your Project Gallery. I have been cleaning out our basement and found a mini cedar Lane box and some old sewing machine drawers. I knew you made over a Lane storage box before. I searched for it and found it!!!!! Same for the sewing machine drawer. Thank you so much for arranging your Project Gallery. So helpful!!!!!

Thank you so much, Kathy! It’s a shame when a thrift store starts over pricing their items. It’s really all about who’s in the back with the pricing gun, you know? The store I found that gold frame at usually prices things pretty cheap, luckily. And yay! I am so thrilled that you found what you were looking for in my new gallery. It took me a while to get everything uploaded and arranged in there, but I’m so glad it’s easier to find things now! Have fun redoing your items! XOXO
Jackie C says
Love them!! You are the QUEEN of finding bargains ????????????????
Christy says
Thank you, Jackie! I couldn’t believe that gold frame was so dang cheap! It’s getting harder and hard to find deals like that! XOXO
Cyndi says
I loove these, and those bunnies are so darned cute! I have made some similar ones and I’m working on new ones now. I love using these as part of Christmas decor. (36 days? Are you sure?! OMG! Ha ha!)
Christy says
Thank you, Cyndi! I might have to keep both of these to decorate with this year lol. And yes! I couldn’t believe when I asked Alexa how many days till Christmas so I could set my little truck countdown. Crazy! XOXO
