Hello awesome Friends! Today I thought I’d give you a little booth update. For those of you that may be new around here, welcome! I have a booth space at the Virginia Beach Antique Mall here in Virginia Beach, VA where I sell most of the things I make over. I always enjoy seeing other people’s booth spaces, so I thought you might enjoy seeing mine!
I last shared my booth back in the Spring and here is where I left off:
I usually share my booth photos while talking about the larger items that have come and gone. I always have a few things that seem to hang around forever and for so long, it was this oval coffee table in the foreground. It was just waiting on the right buyer I guess because it finally sold! I walked in one day to find one of these coveted SOLD signs on it :
That table and chair set sold at the beginning of the Summer, and I brought in this once very dated hutch:
Some furniture pieces may hang around a bit longer than I’d like, but hutches are always good sellers. They are so versatile and functional. This one sold in couple of weeks. The same buyer also bought the reclaimed wood bookcase to the right in the photo below:
Another furniture piece that has been in my booth way too long is the blue antique dresser in the foreground of that photo. Here’s a better photo from my last booth update:
I loved this piece and couldn’t understand why it hadn’t sold. I finally had a customer that wanted it if I could paint it white. Hmmm. See why I paint SO many things white? I did not repaint it, but luckily it sold to someone else about a week later! (Glad I didn’t agree to repaint it!)
Then I brought in this $5 yard sale buffet:
And this striped dresser:
And that French Provincial End Table:
And that headboard turned chalkboard with the hooks that’s on the striped dresser…
Several of the smaller things in that photo have sold as well the buffet.
After that sold, I brought in Grandma’s vintage dresser:
Then I brought in the taller dresser to match that I have yet to share on my blog…
And the simple matching headboard…
Still trying to unload those birdhouse lamps. One of them has a very loose connection that I need to fix, but keep forgetting. I also have been hanging onto this bulletin board since March!
I love this piece and I would have kept it if I had a place for it. It’s just waiting for the right buyer, I suppose. Another cute piece that has been in my booth a long time is this vintage suitcase:
But luckily it finally sold last month.
This little stool of Jack’s had been here too long as well, so I took it home and added the word “reach” to it.
Hoping that sells for him soon. He sold all of his other pieces he redid.
And here is what it looked like when I dropped off my spindle headboard bench a couple of weeks ago:
(Jack’s plant stand in the foreground sold last week.)
You can see my bar stools I redid not too long ago behind the bench:
And you’ll recognize lots of little things I’ve redone like the CD holder turned caddy that’s sitting on the bench. (That sold right away. People love things that have function!)
And this headboard turned coat rack:
And me…hello! Look at that concentration on my face!
Sometimes furniture takes a while to sell so it’s up to the smalls to keep the booth going. Usually I have a bunch of chalkboards that really help with that. I made these at the end of Spring:
But you can see most of them are gone. Need to have another chalkboard painting marathon!
You’ll notice I don’t have a ton of Fall décor in my booth, but I did drop off these sweater pumpkins I made last weekend:
Seasonal décor doesn’t do real well in my booth, so we’ll see how these pumpkins do!
I hope you enjoyed our field trip today. 🙂 I am busy working on a fun project that I hope works out. You’ll be sure to hear about it if it does.

Hi Christy. I enjoyed the tour of your booth. If I lived nearby, I’d surely come visit, but I
live on the other coast.
I’m working on a refinish/decorative paint/resale business. Not sure about pricing. Could
you give some prices on a few of your pieces please so I can have some ideas.
Phyllisa
Christy says
I’m glad you enjoyed the tour, Phyllisa! I included the link to my tips for selling in a booth in the post, and I do talk about pricing in that post which you may find helpful. Here’s a direct link: https://www.confessionsofaserialdiyer.com/10-tips-to-a-successful-booth/ 🙂
Sue says
Always love a trip to your booth!! Maybe someday I will get there myself. Love the little sweater pumpkins. I’ll take three. xo
Christy says
Thanks, Sue! I’ll get those out right away. 🙂

I love your booth display. You have some beautiful pieces. As I read I couldn’t help but agree how some things stay at the booth forever until the right buyer comes along. And seasonal things don’t sell well. The one thing is in my area blackboards don’t do well at all otherwise, I see all the same things you describe.
Christy says
Thanks, Debra! Some months my smaller pieces are all that keep me afloat, so thank goodness chalkboards sell here! Funny that seasonal décor doesn’t sell, huh? So I don’t usually even bother. XOXO
JamieK says
Lots of Beautiful Redo’s….you are super talented! Your booth is the type that I’d spend some major time browsing!! Would love to see you paint something red! My Fav! :o)
Christy says
Thank you so much, Jamie! I have only painted one thing red, a Christmas chair. You can see it here if you like: https://www.confessionsofaserialdiyer.com/oh-christmas-chair/ 🙂
Denise says
just wondering where do you get your stencils…..if you even use stencils.
Christy says
I use stencils more and more these days. I buy most of mine here: https://www.artisticstencildesigns.com/ 🙂
Denise says
I’ve looked at this site in the past from your bar stools project so nice. I would love to get a French postal stencil (Paris) but small this site has them larger than I would like if you know of any please let me know.
thanks
wish I lived close …. I’m in Montreal, Canada
Christy says
Ok I will keep an eye out! 🙂
Anne@DesignDreams (@ddreamsbyanne) says
crap I could live in your booth – love EVERYTHING!
Christy says
Ha ha…If only I had a bed for you to sleep in lol. Thanks, Anne!! XOXO
Sherry Darlington says
Love your booth! Maybe I’ll get to Virginia one of these days. It looks like your “blue/green” pieces are all a similar color. What is it? Also, can you ship things & how much are the sweater pumpkins?
Christy says
Thank you, Sherry! I use a color called Gray Morning by Behr that I usually add a little white to to lighten it up a bit. Unfortunately I don’t ship. The Sweater pumpkins are $5-$10 though. 🙂
Marcie Lovett says
Thanks for the tour, Christy! For those of us who don’t live nearby, it’s fun to see where the pieces end up. I love that blue bulletin board. Put it out front so someone can see how beautiful it is and take it home!
I don’t remember seeing the suitcase before. Did you do a post on painting it?
Christy says
So glad you enjoyed the tour, Marcie! I’m surprised that bulletin board is still there…I keep moving it around. I should do like you said and sit it right up front. As for the suit case, I found a set of two suitcases on the curb and this was one of them. You can see the post on it here: https://www.confessionsofaserialdiyer.com/curbside-suitcase-makeover/ It was a fun project to tackle. 🙂
victoria says
Hi Christy¡¡ so beautiful it is … all your special and uniques pieces displayed all together…. love all of them¡¡
XOXO
Victoria
Christy says
Thank you so much, Victoria!! XOXO
Julie B says
Ok… So I am TOTALLY surprised the birdhouse lamps haven’t sold! I LOVE those. While I was reading I thought, “That suitcase hasn’t sold?” , and then you said it had. Yay! Always rooting for you!
Christy says
Aww you are so sweet, Julie! I can’t believe the lamps are still there either, but one of the harps is a bit wobbly and it probably needs replaced. And yay…yes the suit case took a while to sell, but it finally did. I am so surprised that hung around for so long as well! Thanks for cheering me on! XOXO
Annie (Canada) says
Good morning Christy, I hadn’t considered a booth and I’m not sure there is such a thing in my area, I guess I will have to do some investigating 🙂 I love seeing the treasures you blog about in your booth and know that they sell. Thanks for all the great tips 🙂
Christy says
I’m so glad you enjoyed seeing my booth, Annie! And I am so grateful for my booth since keeping it filled also keeps this here blog chugging along! XO
Phyllisa says
Hi Christy. Thank you so much for taking the time to send me a response. Very useful
information too.

You’re welcome! 🙂
Angelia says
I love your booth updates! As always, I have a random question. Once you decided to open a booth, how much inventory did you have on hand to fill your space? There are a few areas that rent booth space in my area, however, I am no where near having any inventory to fill a space. Just curious how many items would one need to begin.
Thank you for your help and looking forward to your next work of art! ????
Christy says
Thanks, Angelia…glad you enjoyed the tour! As for how much inventory you need, it would really depend on the size of your booth. You could start with a smaller space if that is an option until you build your inventory then move up to a larger space as needed. I used to sell my pieces at craft markets and I opened this booth with the left over inventory from my last show. But there have been several times when my inventory has been really low and that has fueled me to get to work filling it back up, so I would just make things for a couple of months and collect some inventory then go for it. 🙂
Suzan says
I love the colors you use in your booth. I certainly see how they appeal in an area so close to the water! I wish I could find frames the way you do! I search every time I thrift and probably pick up one a month (at the most). This weekend is the last big weekend in our area for yard sales until the spring so I am planning on scouring the local neighborhoods for smalls. Thanks for the tour of your booth. I swear I am going to see it in person the next time I am in Tidewater!
Christy says
Thanks, Suzan! I’m always on the lookout for good frames. I look for anything that has a bit of chunk to it. I like chunkier frames. Sometimes I have no luck at all and other times I’ll get a run on them! Good luck this weekend and yes, I hope you do stop by next time you’re in town! XO
DeAnna Moore says
Absolutely love everything in your booth! You have such a vision!! I have a question for you in regards to painting. I have a dining table and chair set that I’d like to paint. Would using a spray paint primer (Rustoleum) and then the final paint.. also a spray can… allow me to distress? Or is that not a good option to use a spray paint if you’re wanting to distress a piece? Thank you!!
Christy says
Thank you so much, DeAnna! A spray primer would be fine, but on the table I would still sand a bit first. You could use spray paint and still distress. I usually prefer chalk paint for distressed pieces, but chairs are no joke…so much easier to spray, and you can still distress a little. I sprayed these chairs in this dining set: https://www.confessionsofaserialdiyer.com/how-to-paint-a-laminate-kitchen-table/ and distressed them just a little. The only thing is the finish will scratch a bit, so keep the sandpaper on the edges. Don’t run it across smooth flat surfaces. Good luck!
DeAnna Moore says
Thank you Christy! I think since the table is solid wood I’m just going to sand and restain the top and paint the rest. Figured if I distressed a little it wouldn’t show the “use” if my grandson ran his trucks into them. 🙂
Robin says
I love your booth. I keep talking about it , and saying that I wish I had a place here in NJ to do the very same thing you do. I see so many FREE things on craigslist that I could makeover, (and on the curb!) but have nowhere to sell them. When I see them and know I can’t bring them home it feels like a punch to the gut. LOL You know, you see the item, and have an instant “vision” of what you cold make it into. It hurts! LOL
Christy says
Oh that would break my heart! I am very grateful to have my space. Maybe you will find a place too! XO
Karol says
Love pumpkins. I live in VB,and would love to stop by and check them out. What is the price on the pumpkins? Thanks.
Christy says
Well hello, neighbor! The pumpkins are $5-$10, but if they don’t say “firm”, which I don’t believe they do, ask for 10% off. 🙂
Cecilia says
Your booth looks great! I guess not everyone has blue in their house which is why the white pieces sell faster? I adore those pumpkins..I’d buy one or more if I walked in and saw them. I had fun touring your booth! Thanks for sharing!
Christy says
Thank you, Cecilia! Yes white pieces always sell faster. I do sell a lot of smaller blue pieces. I think people prefer it as an accent color, rather than committing to it on a large piece of furniture. Glad you enjoyed the tour! XO
Liz says
Beautiful, awesome and thanks for sharing The pictures gives me the reality of being there , your work is always amazing and great. Enjoy and wishing you lots of good sales! Liz ;).
Christy says
Thanks so much, Liz! Glad you enjoyed it! 🙂
MMarie from The Interior Frugalista says
I love your “large” booth Christy and you keep it so well stocked and tastefully decorated. You seem to be running a very successful booth. I’ve been wanting booth space in our one and only antique mall but rentals are so expensive and hard to get. Seeing yours motivates and gets me excited to one day have one too. Thanks for sharing!
Christy says
Thanks, Marie! The overhead in mine is quite pricey as well, but I figure my site pays for my booth and my booth gives my site content. You should go for it and see how it goes! Your stuff would sell great! 🙂
Marie from The Interior Frugalista says
I’m seriously thinking about it, Christy. You make a good point on the Pro side of this decision!
Christy says
Oh yeah…it gives me content…and a way to get rid of it after. 🙂
Judy Stelman says
Well, Christy, I DO live in Virginia Beach and when I stop by the Antique Mall I always head straight to the back. Then I might work my way back to the front if I have time. You know why!!! My question is… do you ever do any workshops? I have several great pieces I want to paint, but I have never done so and am nervous to try without some direction. I would be right there if you ever gave a class.
Christy says
Awesome, Judy! Thank you for visiting my pretties there, I so appreciate it! I have not ever hosted a workshop before, but definitely may be something I need to consider in the future. I did write a very detailed post on how to paint furniture using chalk paint that would be the next best thing though: https://www.confessionsofaserialdiyer.com/how-to-paint-furniture-using-chalk-paint/ XO
Becky says
Thanks for this “booth visit”! These are so fun! I’m glad things seem to be moving through it. You do beautiful work!
Christy says
Thanks, Becky!! I always love seeing people’s booths for some reason…glad you enjoyed the field trip! 🙂
Candy Walsh says
Christy,
If I could afford it, I’d take one of everything you have! You are such a talented and creative painter! I LOVE doing this kind of things as well, but I can’t always look at something in a thrift store or yard sale and see what it could be. I guess I’m more of a creative follower~thanks for being such an awesome leader, lol! I love seeing your makeovers every week!
Christy says
Aww you are just the sweetest, Candy! That totally made my day! XOXO
