Hello, gorgeous friends! I am back to my haul today sharing a yard sale night table makeover with transfer. This piece cost me all of $5:

The pull really dates it and it just needed someone to give it some love!
It looks like someone did start by removing a piece that was attached to the top:

And, they even filled in the holes for me.
I started by sanding it smooth since it was rough around that area:

Clean
I mixed up some White Lightning and gave this piece a good cleaning! It didn’t look too bad, but boy was it dirty!

It’s been awhile since I’ve shared my dirty water, but this is your reminder to CLEAN YOUR PIECES ha ha! That came mostly out of the drawer cubby. How does that area get so dirty anyway??
Once it was clean, I swapped out my water for clean water and gave it another once over.
Paint
For what I had planned for with this little table, I started with a coat of Dixie Belle’s Fluff. I love Fluff because it typically covers in two coats.
However, I got some bleed through right away on the top where I had sanded:

Bonding BOSS to the rescue!
Not to worry, I followed up with one coat of Bonding BOSS in white:

Then, I let it sit for 24 hours. The Bonding BOSS takes a bit more time to dry completely than the old BOSS did since it also has Slick Stick in it. (It’s a bonding primer and adhesion primer in one now!)
It got pretty cold in the garage overnight so I brought it indoors, just to be sure it would dry thoroughly.
Paint, again
The following afternoon, I gave it one more coat of Fluff:

And it was good to go!
Sand
I sanded lightly all over to smooth and distress just a bit here and there…

I used my shop vac to vacuum up all the dust.
Adding some color with a Transfer
To add some personality to this little table, I pulled out this gorgeous Imperial Garden transfer:

This one is huge at 34″ x 35″, so you could use it on one large piece or cut it apart and use it on several smaller pieces like I did here.
Before applying a transfer, I like to wipe down my surface with a clean cloth just to be sure there are no dust particles left behind at all after vacuuming.
I chose the sections I wanted to use and applied them using the included burnishing stick…

For more on how to apply a transfer, visit this post HERE.
Seal
Once I had the transfer in place, I sealed all over with Clear Coat in Satin using the blue sponge applicator:

$5 Yard Sale Table Makeover with Transfer, the After
Here is how this once dated piece looks now!

It looks fresh and updated now!

As you can see, I added the transfer to the drawer front as well…

I also wrapped it around the edges of the top…

And here is a peek at the top!

This transfer is SO pretty!

Here’s a peek with nothing on the top:

I love that I was able to use mostly the pinks in this transfer on the top giving it a very feminine feel.

Drawer hardware
For the drawer hardware, instead of filling the holes:

I just covered over them with one of the Soho Fusion Mould pieces. I created this one with Amazing Casting Resin:

I added a little E6000 glue to the back before adding the new glass pull…

SO much better than what was there!
And how about the drawer??
This drawer got a fun pop of color with Dixie Belle’s Peony!

It works so well with the florals on the top…

This piece came a long way!

Finally, I get to cross another piece off the list!

Oh it is so beautiful now! What a sweet little table! That will sell quick in your booth. I love the script on the drawer also, then the fun pop of color in the drawer! You would never know how that started out looking so old, now fresh and beautiful!
Christy says
Thank you, Mary! I think I was surprised too that it looks so much more updated now lol! Have a great week, my friend! XOXO
Jeanne says
Definitely worth $5! My goodness, the squirrels around here aren’t that “fluffy”!
Christy says
Thank you, Jeanne! Ha ha…that is one FLUFFY squirrel!! XOXO
Margie West says
That was a pretty amazing transformation! I love the decals and inside drawer color. You did a nice job! Margie \TN
Christy says
Thank you so much, Margie! The transfer did wonders for this piece for sure! XOXO

Hi Christy – The table turned out so pretty. It does not even look like the SAME table!! There are so many people out there that are against painting real wood furniture. If they saw your makeovers, they would come over to the AMAZING and BEAUTIFUL side of painting furniture. What a difference it makes. Thanks for all of your lovely and creative transformations!! You never cease to make me say, “Oh, my gosh!! Gorgeous!!”

Christy says
Aww thank you, Kathy! Paint is such a great way to add new life, and it can always be removed later if you want to go back to wood. It’s a win win! I am so happy that you enjoy what I share!! XOXO
Cecilia says
Ooo, I love the way this one turned out! Gorgeous! And thanks for the reminder to clean a piece! I’m getting ready to tackle my little table and I know it’s going to need that step and the Boss! Your “fluffy” friend looks like he’s overindulged on the birdseed. ????
Christy says
Thank you, Cecilia! Absolutely…this piece didn’t appear dirty at all lol. Have fun with your piece! And yes, he has definitely had more than his share ha ha! XOXO
Christy M says
I am always inspired by your lovely transformations! Wrapping the transfer around the edges of the top of this piece is a wonderful idea. In a future post, could you explain how you smoothed out the corners? Your technique is seamless!
Christy says
Aww I love that, Christy, thank you! For this one, it didn’t have any pattern on the corners, so that helped. If you’re referring to the edges, I applied the transfer to the top first, and then worked on the sides while pulling it taut. I hope that helps! XOXO
Andrea says
Beautiful!!
Christy says
Thank you so much, Andrea! XOXO
Jen says
This is beautiful! I love the transfer!
Christy says
Thank you so much, Jen! It’s a gorgeous transfer! XOXO
Laura Jasontek says
Loved the night table makeover Christy. It’s simply gorgeous! You have an unlimited supply of creativity and eye for detail! One day I hope to travel from Pennsylvania and visit your booth to buy myself a “Christy original” piece!! Love the pic of your fluffy friend, too …he’s well fed!! LOL.
Laura J.
Christy says
Thank you so much, Laura! I really enjoyed this one. That would be awesome if you got the chance to visit! And yes, our furry friend has had more than his share. He was sitting on the deck waiting for my hubby to fill the feeder. They only eat the sunflower seeds, so I don’t know how he got so fluffy lol! XOXO
Marcie Lovett says
Another winning combination, Christy! I am no fan of those 1940s/50s Early American pieces, and now I can’t believe that’s how this one started out. Amazing how paint takes the years off a piece ????
Christy says
Thank you, Marcie! Same…a little paint goes a long way with those pieces for sure! XOXO
Cyndi says
Once again you’ve produced a gorgeous piece! This is a true transformation. I have a table almost identical to this one (sitting next to me, actually) that is waiting to be painted, and you have given me some good ideas! 🙂
Christy says
Thank you, Cyndi! I am still amazed sometimes at what paint can do! Have fun with yours! XOXO
Jackie C says
Very pretty. Loved the peony drawer.
Ugh that squirrel ????️ Cute, yes, but they destroy my flowerbeds ????
Christy says
Thank you, Jackie! Oh no! Our squirrels don’t mess with the flowers, thank goodness…just steal the bird’s food! XOXO
Ellen Shook says
I love it! Peony is one of my favorites, and this new transfer is so pretty!
Christy says
Thank you! I love Peony too…so girly! XOXO
Bohunka says
Uááá— největší překvapení je růžová zásuvka- super nádhera.
Vždycky odhaduji směr proměny a často mě překvapí. Krása . Bí
Christy says
Děkuji mnohokrát! Víte, že se rád bavím se zásuvkami! XOXO
Caye says
I really love that transfer and how nice it looks! Love the writing and how you brought it forward. Great job! I bet it’ll sell fast too.
Isn’t it amazing how dirty pieces can be when they don’t look it! I cleaned a woven basket by pouncing it out a little and then shaking it. Teeny dead bugs fell out! I didn’t care if I ruined it, so I put it into a small pail of sudsy hot water and then went over it with a brush. It was pretty dirty! Ever since then I am careful with every piece and wash them well.
Christy says
Thank you, Caye! I love the writing on this transfer too. Oh no…I bet that was very unexpected with your basket. That’s another great reminder of why you should clean your pieces! XOXO
Mariele says
Love those satisfying dirty water pics, lol! Also, I think your squirrel may be a bit overfed ???? Super job on this makeover, the pink/red drawer really pops against the white. Thank you for sharing!
Christy says
Ha ha! I just have to show that dirty water when it’s that bad. And yes, our resident squirrel has definitely been overindulging. Although we were wondering if it could be pregnant? We may never know! Thank you, Mariele! XOXO
Michele M. says
Oh she is purdy now! Hard to believe it is the same piece, actually.
And I am NOT a fan of squirrels eating our bird seed. Good gracious that is one FAT rodent. You feed him too much, poor birds. 🙁
GREAT pic though.
Christy says
Thank you, Michele! I used to chase them away, but then we realized they only seem to eat the sunflower seeds, so we stopped. Wondering now if this one is a she and is pregnant? Maybe! XOXO
Nancy says
Gorgeous! This is SO my style! I just love the way you wrapped the transfer over the edge of the top like that, and the fuchsia paint in the drawer just made me swoon! I just love your little squirrel friend. I have a soft spot for sweet, fluffy things and this one is adorable. Give her some extra seeds for me! xx
Christy says
Thank you, Nancy! I’m so glad you like it…this piece really spoke to me too! Our little friend didn’t even flinch when we opened the door…such a cutie! XOXO
Robin says
Love this little cutie, Christy especially that peony inside drawer!!!
Christy says
Thank you, Robin! I really enjoyed this one! XOXO
