Hello, awesome friends! Today, I’ve got SIX brand new smalls for you! Y’all know I enjoy these smaller no-pressure makeovers as they not only help me to keep my booth fluffed, they also help me whittle down my haul. For this group, I embraced a black and white theme as that color palette sells really well for me, and I am in need of a few white makeovers for my booth. I hope you enjoy them!
Here’s what’s included in today’s round of mini makeovers:

I’ve included a few affiliate links so you can find the products I love.
Mini Makeover #1
Up first is this large metal set of candle holders that I picked up for $4.99 each at the thrift store:

All of these makeovers started with a good cleaning with White Lightning using a terrycloth applicator pad, followed by another wipe-down with clean water:

I always gravitate to dry brushing these simple metal pieces with Sea Glass for a faux verdigris look, but I decided to do them Cotton white this time, pouncing the paint onto the surface with my brush:

I did two coats like that and opted to leave them unsealed. And this set of metal candle holders was done!
Mini Makeover #1 After
Here is how this set looks now…

Painting the interior, even with spray paint would have been a challenge, so this was a great option.

Mini Makeover #2
Next up is this set of metal wall plaques that I picked up at the thrift store for $4.98 each:

These are much larger than they appear here!
I started this makeover by giving them a quick spray with Rustoleum Spray Primer:

And look how lucky I got at a yard sale on Saturday! I picked up this never before used small spray shelter for only $3!

That’s my lazy Susan inside, but my small spray shelter had become quite crusty, so I nabbed this one…great for small pieces!
(If I could only pick one, my favorite would be the medium sized shelter that can hold quite a bit more. I just ordered a new one of those.)
After spraying a quick coat on there, I followed up with Cotton using my Best Dang Brush to easily paint that detailed surface:

Once they were dry, I lightly sanded all over with 220 grit sandpaper to bring out some of those details.

And this very simple makeover was complete!
Mini makeover #2 after
Here is how they look now:

This isn’t a striking makeover by any means, but I think these pieces looked quite dated before. Now, they are fresh and bright and would look fantastic against a wall with some color, maybe side by side above a bed?

Sanding brought out all those pretty details on this pair…

Mini Makeover #3
Makeover #3 started as this clock that is also a little storage box that I picked up at the thrift store for $2.99:

I didn’t get a good photo, but the toile paper on the side panels was all yellowed, and so I envisioned replacing that and possibly painting the box. However, when I pulled the paper out, the toile print was nice and bright white on the other side!
Now there was really no need to paint as I love a classic black and white toile, and the black is the best match for it. But, I still wanted to make a couple of updates to this box.
I pulled out these dainty feet I often use on boxes:

I gave them a bit more shimmer with some gold gilding wax and attached them with E6000 Glue.
Also, I removed the knob on top and gave that an update with the gilding wax as well, and that was it!
Mini Makeover #3 After
Here is how this box looks with those small updates:

Adding feet and a little gold gilding wax to both those and the top are all this box needed to fancy it up a bit…

And here’s a peek at one of the sides…they all look similar…

It’s almost too simple to share, but it just didn’t need anything more!

Mini Makeover #4
Our next makeover started out as this tray, probably originally for the holidays, that I found for $3.98:

This one also got a quick spray of Rustoleum Spray Primer to start:

I followed that up with two coats of my favorite bright white Cotton as well…

(That photo looks like I took it with my flip phone from 2010 lol.)
Then I decided to add a black stripe. I removed the tape as soon as the second coat went on:

I sanded lightly all over to smooth everything out…

And then for a little something more. I pulled out the leftovers I had from this Queen’s Glory transfer:

I sealed with Clear Coat in satin and this makeover was complete as well!
This is all I have left of that transfer, so we’ll see if I find something to use it on:

Mini Makeover #4 After
What a difference!

Let’s get in closer…

And a view from the side while in use…

How about those cute feet??
The Antique Gold Gilding Wax matches the tone of the gold in this transfer so nicely:

It’s a bit warmer than the traditional gold gilding wax I use so often. I used it on these sweet feet I found on Amazon:

The feet add so much…

The before and after of this one is night and day!

Mini Makeover #5
Mini Makeover #5 is this cupcake stand that really had nothing wrong with it to begin with:

It looks like it came right out of that aisle at Target with all the wood items. You know the one.
I decided to paint it anyway because that is what I do!
I went with Cotton here too…

Once I got full coverage, I sanded all the details to distress some, and then I sealed with a quick spray of Rusloleum Clear Matte spray.
Mini Makeover #5 After
And here is this simple redo!

I called this a cupcake stand because I don’t really know what other use it could have.

You could keep your every day jewelry safe from the kitties that want to swat it onto the floor while you sleep, I guess?

I removed the knob to paint it and sealed it before putting it back on. It was just screwed in place from the bottom.

Mini Makeover #6
And finally, at number #6 is another set of candlesticks! I picked this set up for $3.99 for both:

I was on a roll finding candlesticks for this haul!
These were so super simple that I wasn’t sure I could do much for them, but I started this set with spray primer and Cotton white paint also.
Then, I sanded them all over to bring that black point through on the details:

I dug through my stash of transfers next and pulled out this set of Paris Cottage Knob transfers:

I loved the floral ones for these, but since we were going with a black and white theme this round, I stuck with those.
Then I sealed once again using Rusloleum Clear Matte spray.
Mini Makeover #6 After

I think these turned out pretty cute for being so simple to start!

Paint brought out details you couldn’t even see before.

A little closer look…

And for the bottoms which nobody will ever see lol, I added some extra pretty with this leftover decoupage paper:

And that is another round of smalls complete!

Do you have a favorite??

And that is another six makeovers completed from this haul as well!
Much of this haul came from yard saling, so there were a LOT of smalls!

You can see the other three rounds of smalls from this haul alone HERE, HERE, and HERE.

Aww thank you so much, Charlene! XOXO

I love all things black and white. I think my favorite is the candle sticks with the transfer! They all maybe simple, but so beautiful now!
Christy says
Thank you so much, my friend! I too love a classic black and white! Have a great week! XOXO
Denise says
It is quite difficult to select a favorite; however, I have a similar wooden tray and will most likely be doing something similar to mine. I love what you did and I found those little feet and will be getting them. What a difference they made in the entire look. Thanks! Also, can we be looking forward to your beautiful Halloween home this year? I sure hope so! I love it.
Christy says
Thank you, Denise! Those little feet really do make it. Have fun redoing yours, and yes! Everything comes out October 1st woohoo! XOXO
Janice Redden says
Christy, the smalls are always so fun and this group turned out so cute – the clock is my favorite! I know what you mean that sometimes the only thing needed is a good cleaning. But, it’s hard to not give things a “little something” to give it some love. Ten items to go…cant wait to see them all.
You have a great week!
Christy says
Thank you, Janice! Ha ha yes…it is hard not to tweak them at least a tiny bit! Enjoy your week as well, my friend! XOXO
Jackie C says
Ooooh I love the cupcake.stand and have a unique way to use it! I collect hoyas, this would be good for propagation, using a small pot. The dome would provide the humidity a cutting needs to root. All while looking cute as the dickens.
I love the fancy bottoms with the pretty paper. such a sweet touch.
have a great week!
Christy says
Oh that is a great use for that stand! Thank you, my friend! XOXO
Nana Diana says
Nice job on your smalls. The clock really stuck out to me as did the striped tray. Love them. Have a great week. xo Diana
Christy says
Thank you, Diana! Black is always so striking! Enjoy your week as well! XOXO
Geri Davis says
Hi Christy,
Love the smalls, I have a bunch of those knob transfers and never thought about putting them on candlesticks! Great idea, thanks for sharing!
Christy says
Thank you, Geri! Those knob transfers are great on small items! XOXO
Shaan Kraan says
Wow, I am forever amazed at your beautiful transformations. I am in awe. I also have tons of items I want to do, but … am terrified of making mistakes so don’t even start! Also, I live in South Africa and don’t know if I can get hold of the wonderful paints and cleaners that you use. I’ll give it a bash one of these days.
Christy says
Aww thank you so much, Shaan! Start with a couple of items you don’t care much about…I bet you will surprise yourself! I don’t know if Dixie Belle has expanded to South Africa. I tried to do a search but did not see any results. XOXO
Cecilia says
I really like the little clock box…I know you didn’t do much to it but it’s all refreshed and looks great. The iron candlesticks remind me of Halloween for some reason. Maybe they remind me of cobwebbed things. Anyway, I like them! The smalls are always fun to see. Looking forward to the silver tray. Maybe it will inspire me for mine!
😊Cecilia
Christy says
Thank you, Cecilia! That box is cute and didn’t need much at all! I was drawn to the shape of the candlesticks. Glad you enjoyed this bunch! See ya Thursday! XOXO
Lorri says
I love the metal plaques… they showed up really nice in white. If I had them I would do them in a mid beige color because that is the color I decorate woth. I can visualize them now…lol.
Christy says
Me too! I am always drawn to them…they would look great in an off white as well! XOXO
Michele M. says
Christy, I always love your smalls and this post is no exception! I think the clock turned out amazing!!! And you know what? I envision a bottle brush tree and some fluffy batting and maybe tiny dollhouse wrapped gifts under that “cloche” cupcake stand for Christmas. Or an way to display an antique delicate ornament.
Christy says
Thank you, Michele! I love your vision for the cloche!! That would be so cute! XOXO
Caye says
Congrat’s on all of them! My favorites are the first metal candlesticks. I think that the black showing through gives them depth and interest. The clock is really nice, and I love the transfer on it as well. I appreciate them all and I bet they won’t last long in the store. XXOO
Christy says
Thank you, Caye! I was really drawn to the shape of those candlesticks, and I always welcome a quick sale lol! XOXO
Darlene Spence says
Very difficult to pick a favorite. Lol. You do everything so well. But with that said, I think the cupcake stand. You don’t see those very often, or at all, in central Texas. Love your work!
Christy says
I really appreciate that, Darlene, thank you! It sure did turn out cute. Someone suggested putting a little Christmas scene under there for the holidays. I think that would be so cute! XOXO
Lizzy says
I’m always amazed at the power of paint, especially white and black paint. These are all so good, and beautifully staged. I must buy those feet!
Christy says
Yes!! ME TOO! I even have my doubts at times, but then I’m proven wrong time and again lol. Yes, get you some of those feet…they are very reasonably priced for such a big impact. Thank you so much, my friend! XOXO
Jewels L says
I LOVE EVERYTHING!
All of those little details from the metal feet to the floral inserts in the candle holders.
Bravo!!
Christy says
Thank you so much, Jewels! XOXO
Susan says
I adore the clock- simple changes brought it to the next level. Also, like the first metal candlesticks- the white modernized them, I think and, oh that black and white tray- so unique!
Christy says
Thank you! The clock got a lot of love..it’s amazing what such simple changes can do! I loved the candlesticks and the tray as well…so fun to reimagine these smaller items! XOXO
Ilene says
Almost everything you do is white. While I like white, I also love more bold colors. I always check out your projects, but I immediately know it’s probably going to be white.
I have antiques, modern and oriental in my home.
I sometimes use white as a foundation and add all kinds of colors, pastels, bold, etc., for a table setting, depending on the occasion and season.
Christy says
Did you know the hardest color to paint is white? It always takes more coats and often has to be primed first, but I do often paint these smaller makeovers in white as that is what sells them quickly for me. That is also why I group six mini makeovers together, since they aren’t always that exciting lol. I do, however, often use color on my larger pieces, especially furniture as you will see if you scroll through my furniture gallery. I do love white though! XOXO
