Hello, sweet friends! I’m coming to you with another round of smalls today! I love doing the smalls since they are great for fluffing my booth. They usually sell quickly and can really add up, so I am always on the hunt for them.
Here’s what’s getting redone today:

I’ve included a few affiliate links so you can find the products I love.
Mini Makeover #1
Up first is this large, flat basket I picked up for 25% off of $6.98, so around $5:

I love the large size of it, and I liked the original finish. However, I wish I had taken a before photo of the inside…it had lots of water stains. You can barely see them around the inside edge in the photo above.
Clean
To clean baskets, I usually just give them a good vacuum with my shop vac and get right to painting!
Paint
It’s almost tradition now to paint these large, odd baskets in my favorite blue, so that is what I did here as well:

This coastal-inspired custom blue was made by combining about 40% The Gulf, 40% Duck Egg Blue, and 20% Cotton to lighten it a little, and I applied it using my Best Dang Brush, which is great for painting the large weave of baskets!
Seal
After a light sanding all over, to seal, I gave it a good spray of Rustoleum Clear Satin spray and this makeover was complete!
Mini Makeover #1 After
Better, no?

At least the water stains are no longer visible!

It’s pretty big, right? Not bad at all for $5!

Mini Makeover #2
Up next is this set of candle holders I found for a steal!

They were only $6.99 for all three! (That says 3 for $6.99)

I’ll take em! It seems like maybe some stores are starting to ease up on their insanely high prices a bit or I just got lucky!
Clean
Aside from the basket, everything else got cleaned with White Lightning using one of these terrycloth applicator pads which are perfect for this step!
Paint
I used a custom mix for these candlesticks also.
Since I was after a soft gray, I used a mix of about 25% Hurricane Gray with about 75% Cotton…

This yields a lovely, soft gray.
Applying Black Wax
I knew I wanted to add some depth using black Best Dang Wax, but because chalk paint is so porous, it really soaks up the color. I needed to apply either a layer of clear wax first or Easy Peasy spray wax, and I chose the latter:

I shook the bottle well and sprayed all over. Then, I used a clean, soft cloth to buff it into the surface.
Then I was able to apply the black wax, and I did that using my French Tip brush:

I followed that up by removing most of it using my clean cloth:

There’s no need to seal again since wax is a sealer, so once I had all three done the way I wanted, this trio was one!
Mini Makeover #2 After
Here is how they look now:

The tallest candle holder looks like it has a line of wax down the center, but that is just a shadow…

The wax highlight is subtle but adds so much depth…

And a bit closer…

Very romantic!

Mini Makeover #3
Next up is this framed art I picked up at a yard sale for only $3:

It’s actually kind of pretty, but I set out to do something else with it anyway!
I remove the peeling cardboard backing and then removed the print, which was held in place like this…

I used my staple puller and a pair of needle nosed pliers to remove all the staples.
Once I had the frame free, it got a good cleaning.
Paint
The frame was painted in three coats of Cotton White using my Belle Brush to get into all the details easily:

While the frame was drying, I painted the back of the art I had removed in Cotton also as a base for my new artwork:

Once the frame was dry, I used a sanding sponge to distress.
Seal
To seal, I used Best Dang Wax in Clear, applying it with the La Petite Brush (Any of the natural bristle brushes can be used to apply wax.):

Then, I wiped it back to remove any excess and buffed it using a clean, soft cloth:

Now I was ready to create my new art, except I had one small problem!
I had planned to use this image from the What a View decoupage paper three-pack:

Unfortuantely, the frame was a bit too large:

Bummer! I really wanted to use this paper!
See what I did with another paper from this set HERE.
So, I dug through my stash and found a super cute alternative, this bunny from the Dreamy Bunnies decoupage three pack!

It might not be Easter, but this would be super cute in a little one’s room, as well!
I used the other two images in this set HERE.
To turn this paper into art, I first used a WARM hair dryer on the folds. You can use a warm iron also.
Then, I applied a coat of Matte Decoupage Gel to the surface with a Foam n Dandy brush in the 2″ size:

After laying my paper and smoothing it out, I applied another coat over the top:

I let that dry really well and then reassembled my new artwork!
Mini Makeover #3 After
This bunny is so sweet!

These images are actually quite large at 19 X 30″, but I was able to frame just the face to fit this frame.

The flowers hide his basket, but you can see it here…

And a peek at the frame…simple distressing.

Out of season, but still so cute!

Mini Makeover #4
Mini makeover #4 is another piece of “art”, this wooden wall art that I found for $5.99 at the thrift store:

I liked the idea that I could easily flip it over, add handles, and turn it into a tray, and that is exactly what I did!
After a good cleaning…

Paint
I gave it one coat of Cotton, applying it with the Belle Brush since I still had it out…

Only painting one coat makes it really easy to sand to get that relaxed, coastal feel I love:

(The bigger the veins, the hotter it is…they are struggling to the top to cool off lol. It was a hot one this weekend!)
I liked it simple like this, but I decided to go back and paint the center in the custom gray I used on the candle holders. I taped it off to keep it clean and removed the tape while the paint was still wet:

Seal
I sealed this time using Clear Coat in satin, applying it with a Foam n Dandy brush so could get into those inside corners:

Mini Makeover #4 After
And here is how this wall art turned simple tray looks now:

I added these handles I picked up at Hobby Lobby to either end:

They were painted gray also and distressed a bit.
Simple but cute, right?

Here’s another view:

Love this one!

Mini Makeover #5
Next up is this recipe box I picked up for 25% off of $2.98:

I pick these up whenever I find them because they are so fun to redo!
I redid two more HERE and HERE.
This one got a good cleaning also…

Paint
I chose to paint this one in the same custom gray mix I used on the candle holders as well:

I took tow coats for solid coverage.
I wasn’t feeling the pinapple though and decided to cut a piece of luan to cover that up:

That got painted in Vintage Duck Egg mixed 50/50 with Cotton, and then I combined a few pieces from the Delightful Labels transfer set to embellish it:

I sealed the box and sign for the front with Easy Peasy spray wax.
Then, I glued it to the front using E6000 glue and let it dry overnight.
I then added these cute feet I painted white by predrilling tiny holes on the bottom and screwing them in with a tiny screw driver and the screws that came with the feet:

Mini Makeover #5 After
And here is how this pineapple recipe box looks now:

And from the side…

I added a handle to the top also.
And look at those cute feet!

I didn’t get a photo of the inside, but it is just painted gray.

Mini Makeover #6
How about we end with a lamp? I have several lamps in this haul, and this one was a fantastic deal at 40% off of $6.98:

I’m usually pretty excited when they still have the finial attached, but this one was all wrong lol!
After cleaning, this got painted in Cotton, once again using the Belle Brush to get into those details:

It took three coats for solid coverage. (I was sure to tape off anything that I didn’t want painted.)
Then I sanded here and there to accentuate the details.
Seal
To make it easy to seal, I used Rustoleum Clear Satin spray:

Easy!
Now for the shade
Lamps at thrift stores don’t often come with the shades, so I went digging through my stash. This was a bit tough to match size-wise, but I think I did okay with this one:

It too was a thrift store find for only $4.25!!

Best deal ever when I can find a shade for that price! And it was lined with some bougie fabric!
Y’all may remember one of the lamps I shared HERE where I used some of this Blossom Tweet transfer on one of the shades:

It was a large transfer, so I have still several pieces left and decided to use some of it on this shade also!
I also nabbed a couple of peices from the Delightful Labels set to bring in the white:

There is no need to seal the transfers when adding them to shades since they won’t be handled much, so this makeover was complete!
Mini Makeover #6 After
And here is how this lamp looks now!

Adding a transfer to a lamp shade really dresses it up!

I just used one piece of the larger transfer here…

The base is simple…

And I pulled this finial from another lamp…I think it fits much better!

And that’s six more mini makeovers complete!!

I always enjoy having new smalls to fluff my booth!
And that’s six more pieces I can cross off the list!

Only 31 more pieces to go lol, and I think I can get two more rounds of smalls out of this haul.

Whoo Hoo for the smalls! I love them all so much, the receipe box and the lamp are my favorites! I love the feet on on the box so much. I am excited to to see how your booth is looking! You always make the smalls so beautiful again!
Christy says
Thank you so much, my friend! I love being able to knock out several pieces at one time! See you Thursday! XOXO
Janice Redden says
Woohoo, Christy! You are breezing through this haul pretty fast – the smalls definitely help reduce the numbers. They’re all so pretty and creative — the candle holders are my favorite version of the many candle holders you have done. Just so different. Of course that recipe box is so much better. I didn’t think you would keep that pineapple! Have a great week….heat be darned!
Christy says
Yes! My favorite thing is crossing six makeovers off the list at once lol! Thank you!! I love the candle holders as well, and I just wasn’t loving that pineapple ha ha. Hoping the heat eases up a bit soon!! XOXO
Catherine says
I loved the pineapple on the box!! Wish you would have kept it! The candles are nice…still seem a bit too pricey for me.
The lamp is my favorite.
Christy says
Aww sorry about that! The candle holders might be my favorite of the bunch. That was $6.99 for all three…a bargain! So glad you enjoyed the lamp! XOXO
Gina says
My favorites are the little recipe box and that sweet lamp! The lamp in particular – so pretty!!
Christy says
Aww yay! I love to find those little boxes! Thanks, Gina! XOXO
Jackie C says
Love them all! I really like adding a transfer to lampshades. The pineapple box was quite a surprise. Such great ideas. I love the handle on top and the feet.
BTW, I have those veins too. Lol. I didn’t when I was, *ahem* younger.
Have a great week, Christy xoxo
Christy says
Thanks, Jackie! Transfers can really elevate a lamp shade! XOXO
Sue Carole McCombs says
Hello Christy
Your smalls are lovely, the candle sticks and lamp are my favorite. Beautiful work on all.
Thank you for sharing.
Christy says
Thanks so much, Sue! Glad you enjoyed them! XOXO
Sue Cox says
As always, I like everything you did, but the most surprising to me were the candle holders. I didn’t think there was any saving them, but they look great in their new color with the subtle shading from the dark wax.
Christy says
Thank you, Sue! The candle holders seem to be the favorite today! XOXO
Michele M. says
They look great, Christy! I really like everything but I see the base of the lamp as too bright of a white. I’d have muted it with a cream or, of course, a muted olive-y green. But the lamp and the finial and the shade with transfer is perfect. It isn’t often I am not 100% – YOU TRULY ARE MY HERO.
Christy says
Thanks, Michele! Do you know that creams just son’t sell well for me at all? The last lamp I redid using this transfer was painted in Olive Wood and it sold right away. We’ll see how this one goes! XOXO
Marion says
Really enjoyed seeing all these makeovers – I think the lamp is my favorite! You are inspiring me to get my own “smalls” done. Thank you for the inspiration once again.
Christy says
I’m so glad you enjoyed them, Marion, thank you! The lamp is a big improvement for sure! Have fun with your smalls! XOXO
Josee says
Awesome as usual! Blessings
Christy says
Thanks so much, Josee! XOXO
Cyndi says
I love them all!! Quite a variety too. The lovely basket, the dramatic candle holders, the sweet bunny, the darling tray (great idea!), that adorable box, and that lamp…wow! So pretty! Well done!
Christy says
Thank you, Cyndi! I’m glad you enjoyed the whole bunch! XOXO
Cecilia says
I love seeing a round of smalls done! The bunny picture is adorable. That finial on the lamp was huge for that lamp. Glad you changed it. Love the transfer on the shade; it makes the whole lamp shine! ( see what I did there? Lol). I’m wondering why I ever got rid of my recipe box…this one is so cute. And great idea for covering up the pineapple. Looking forward to the booth tour!

Christy says
I love that you enjoy them too, my friend, thank you! They are fun for me since most are quick and easy! The lamp really does “shine” now ha ha! See ya tomorrow! XOXO
Lizzy says
I’m a big fan of painting the smalls. My favorites from this bunch are the candlesticks and the recipe box. Great work on all of them!
Christy says
Oh yay! Those were the winners this time, I think! Thanks so much, Lizzy! XOXO
