Hello, sweet friends! As we are moving Jack into his apartment at UVA today, I’m reminded that Fall is coming whether we’re having a heat wave at the moment or not. So, I thought I’d pull out a fantastic Fall project sharing how to turn a frame into a fall wreath! The original post has been pinned over 40K times, so hopefully, you will find it inspiring too!
I originally found this oval “art” at the estate sale of my sister’s grandfather-in-law:
I loved the frame on this piece, but the estate sale company had priced it at $25, so it was a hard pass for me. I mean the art in it was cardboard. When it didn’t sell, my sister nabbed it for me along with a couple others, so it ended up being FREE yay!
This hutch and this secretary I redid were from the same estate sale.
The first thing to go was the floral picture that was in the center. Like I said, it was cardboard, but it was also warped. I’ve included a few affiliate links so you can find the products I love.
Turn a Frame into a Fall Wreath
I loved the actual frame as is, so I didn’t have to do a thing to it, and that was the foundation for my new wreath.
I headed to Michaels to see what I could find to turn this frame into a Fall wreath and found two pumpkin picks and a white pumpkin. It started as a pick also. Then I stopped by Hobby Lobby and found a nice Fall greenery stem.
Here is everything I used to bring this fall frame wreath to life:
Not much, right?
Video Tutorial
Here is a quick two-minute video that shows how easily and quickly this unique Fall wreath came together:
If you have trouble viewing, you can see it on YouTube HERE.
And here it is in pictures also:
The picks and greenery were held in place with craft wire, and everything else was attached with hot glue using my hot glue gun.
The AFTER
It’s not your typical fall wreath, but it totally works!
And the gold on the frame was just perfect for a fall-inspired wreath!
It’s hard to believe it only took a few supplies to create!
If you watched the video, you saw that I originally added a bow, but I just didn’t love it, so I swapped it out for this whimsical tag instead.
I actually made several small tags out of the original backing from this mirror makeover I shared:
You can see what I did with that mirror HERE.
Making the Tag
I replaced the old backing with fresh luan and y’all know I hate to toss anything, so it became several tags that I could use on other things later:
When I wasn’t loving the bow, I grabbed one of these tags and spray primed it in Rustoleum spray primer.
Then, I cut a simple “hi” using my Silhouette. I positioned it on the tag and sprayed Rustoleum Metallic Gold over the top:
Then I removed the vinyl and attached the tag to my wreath using a few strands of thin jute twine.
It’s so much cuter than the traditional bow that was overwhelming this wreath..
And how about a starfish on a fall wreath? Why not? I live in a beach town, so I had to throw that in!
Most of y’all know how much I love H A L L O W E E N, but I still like to have a few traditional fall pieces after to take us into Thanksgiving.
I hope you enjoyed this quick fall project, and it has you thinking of cooler days ahead!
This project is currently featured in the Autumn 2023 edition of Country Sampler’s Farmhouse Style magazine:

I was walking up to my door today after walking the dog and wondering what I could use for a wreath this fall…and here it is! This is a beautiful idea. Thanks!
Christy says
Oh yay! It came at the right time…happy creating!! XOXO
Niki says
Thanks for resharing. It is fun inspiration for fall that isn’t over the top Halloween themed. Also congrats on the magazine page and pins! I’m not a frame keeper….however I should be. I have enough lying around, and I just don’t have the energy to do anything with them. We have a community rummage sale coming up so I’m sure they will go to that.
Christy says
I’m glad you enjoyed it, Niki! You know I am much more excited about my over-the-top Halloween decor though, right?? Ha ha I know it’s not for everyone, and once the holiday is over, I hang this on my door and look normal again lol! Good luck with your rummage sale! XOXO
Indie says
Ohmygoodness! I love the fall wreath! We have been looking for some thing for our new home, but have not found anything that doesn’t look cheesy or over the top. I love the subtle beauty and warm welcome of this wreath. Now I have to go run to the thrift store! Everything you touch turns out to be absolutely gorgeous. I don’t know how you do it but your mind for creativity is amazing, truly a gift.
Christy says
I’m so glad you like it, Indie, thank you! And I truly appreciate your very kind words! Enjoy creating your new “wreath”! XOXO

Wow, awesome that it is featured in the Country Sampler! I would have never thought to use a frame like this for a wreath, and years ago made many wreaths. Love this idea and it came out so pretty. Oh also finally read your post on your current booth and it looks great. You fit a lot in there yet it doesn’t look overly cluttered or overwhelming. Congrats on the sold pieces. Hoping soon additional space will become available for you. It’s a shame those adjoining spaces didn’t go to you.
Christy says
Thanks so much, Debra! That was a nice surprise! As for my booth, I have had an unusually slow summer, so my booth just kept getting more and more full. Then out of the blue, I sold five larger pieces, and now I really need to get to work lol! I really wanted that extra space, but also, I would have to keep it filled ha ha! XOXO
Catherine says
Hi Christy! Love this wreath idea!! I have a question…the pic with the newspapers, was that on the back of the frame?? It reminded me of a wooden bread bowl that I recently gave to my daughter in law because
she loved it so much. Which brings me to another question… I had faux bread in it that does look real but she didn’t want that. She has a 3 year old that wants to touch and throw everything…she wants to fill it with something that won’t break…but pretty! Any suggestions?
Christy says
Thank you, Catherine! The pic with the newspapers is from another project I redid. It was a mirror that had those papers on the back. I was showing how I used that thin wood on top to make the small tag that I added to the wreath. As for the bread bowl, my immediate thought was shells because I live near the beach, and we pick up a few every time we go, but if that’s not her thing, she could always add a candle and some greenery, or use it seasonally, filled with small pumpkins for fall, etc. I also think they are pretty empty as the wood on them is usually pretty! XOXO
Cindy Molleur says
I could not love this more!!!! And congratulations on being published, how exciting and so well deserved!!! 🧡🍁🤎
Christy says
Aww thank you so much, Cindy! I really appreciate that! XOXO
Cyndy Cook says
I’ve seen other decorating bloggers mention being surprised (always pleasantly, of course) about finding out that their content is being featured in a magazine. Don’t the editors reach out first for permission or anything? I love this project by the way. You never cease to amaze. You always honor the spirit of the animal by using every part of the animal! Haha.
Christy says
Ha ha thank you, Cyndy! I try! As for the feature, they do reach out asking to use certain photos and they will also reach out asking if we have certain types of things they are looking for. But, not everything makes into the publication. And, they ask a year in advance, so by the time we receive a copy of the final print, we’ve forgotten all about it lol. XOXO
Cheryl says
Beautiful!! Congrats on your article, well deserved!!
Christy says
Aww thank you so much, Cheryl! XOXO

Sometimes you just totally freak me out! First a picture into a fall wreath and then I realized: You did not paint one of your project! I almost feinted when I realized that and I had to scroll back up to double-check.
Who are you?
Pssst: By the way, it came together beautifully. (Of course)
Christy says
Ha ha! That is not like me at all. right? This was already perfection though lol! Thank you, my friend! XOXO
