Hello lovelies! I’m back today to update a child’s chair with paint. This little chair was a great yard sale find for only $4:

It was the only piece in my haul that didn’t need any TLC at all. I knew that it could be so much more fun with a little paint though!
Clean
I started this makeover off like I do all of my furniture makeovers, with a good cleaning with White Lightning:

These terry cloth applicator pads work perfectly for this job! I use them over and over again and them just toss them in the wash.
Once I had this piece clean, I swapped out my water for clean water and wiped down once more.
Paint
For this little chair, I decided to use a color I have never used before! This is Daisy by Dixie Belle:

I chose it to go with this absolutely adorable new transfer from Dixie Belle’s Belles and Whistles line called the Fairyland Transfer:

Isn’t it SO cute??
I couldn’t wait to use this one, and this little chair was the perfect opportunity!
I started painting, but the yellow seemed a bit bright for the transfer, so I toned it down a bit by adding about half Cotton.
You can see the legs are the original color and the top is the color lightened up:

It’s so warm and lovely!
It did darken a bit after drying:

I decided to go back and highlight some of the details with Cotton:

Sand
I didn’t want this one to be distressed, so I used a sanding sponge to smooth out the surface.

Transfer
Then I decided on placement for my transfer…

Seal
And finally, I sealed with Clear Coat in Satin using my blue sponge applicator:

Child’s chair Reveal
Here is how this cutie looks now!

Honestly, paint alone did wonders for this sweet piece…

Y’all know I love the whimsy of a stripe! I only added it to the very front of that back portion…

Paint alone did do wonders, but how stinking cute is this transfer??

I am always getting new transfers and decoupage papers in my Etsy shop and have just added a bunch!

I hope you enjoyed this fun update!

That’s piece number two done!

If you missed the bench, you can see that HERE!
I will be on V-A-C-A-T-I-O-N next week!! WOOHOO!
Back in 2020, for Jack’s graduation, we had all my siblings and their families coming in town for it, so we opted to rent a beach house for everyone because we thought it would be fun to be able to stay together.
Remember that was the time when I had to take his graduation photos in our kitchen in front of a tablecloth I hung from a doorway because it was Covid and the world was crazy and that wasn’t a possibility otherwise and this is the photo we chose for his banner?

Ha ha! I’m glad we could have fun with it! We did take nice ones too. He looks like such a baby there!
Anyway, this year, with Jack graduating college and my sister’s son graduating high school, we decided to do it again! So, I will be on vacation in a beach house 10 minutes down the road. ????
My Etsy Shop will still be OPEN!
I will still be back with this old favorite on Tuesday:

UPDATE: See how I turned this case into a beach beauty HERE!
Have a fabulous weekend!!

That wee chair is absolutely adorable!!!!!! That transfer is soooooo cute!
And so is your son – what a fun pic. I know you will have a wonderful time at the beach house. Funny it isn’t the miles that make it feel like a true vacay – it’s just the scenery. Good for the soul. Enjoy a well deserved get-away – even if only down the road. ♥
Christy says
I loved this transfer so much and I couldn’t wait to use it! Thank you!! It will also be so nice to be under one roof with my siblings again…at least in theory ha ha! XOXO

Christy, such a fun piece and what a surprise color; I don’t recall you using yellow – and it is yellow – before; maybe white with yellow stripes; but, it turned out so cute and that transfer is adorable!
Enjoy your family vacation – use the entire time for yourself and your family; I’m sure “Christy’s Crew” would totally survive if you didn’t post for two days; you owe it to yourself!!!
Christy says
Aww thank you, Janice! You are the sweetest! I already have my posts scheduled and ready to go for next week. I do love to get a chance to reshare old favorites, so this is a great opportunity to do that. And you are right…I’ve never used yellow before…I love it! XOXO

This little chair is darling! I love yellow. Your archives are always fun too. 🙂
I hope you all enjoy every minute of your time together. These kids are all growing up so fast! We had a high school graduation and also a college graduation this year too, but it was our GRANDkids. :O I am still trying to figure out how that happened. Ha ha!
Christy says
Thank you, Cyndi! I do love the chance to share old favorites. And I keep thinking the same thing…where is the time going?? We need to bottle that up lol. XOXO
Marcie Lovett says
It’s adorable, Christy! I thought the transfer was going to be the star but the paint job is what really makes it fun. It will be perfect for some little person. Nice to have a project that lets you get right to the fun part instead of spending lots of time doing prep ????
Christy says
I thought the transfer would be the star too, but the paint was so fun by itself! And yes, the rest of my haul is pretty needy, so I enjoyed getting right to the fun part lol! Thanks, Marcie! XOXO
Judy says
Christy, that chair is A-D-0-R-A-B-L-E!!! Even though grandchildren are not in my future I’d love to have a chair like that and pretend I have a granddaughter coming to visit! Actually at my age it would have to be a great-granddaughter, but whatever!
Great job as usual!
Christy says
Aww thank you, Judy! It is such a fun piece! XOXO
Caye Cooper says
It’s all just too darn stinkin’ cute, Christy! I LOVE yellow. I hope to use yellow on a child’s dresser with some adorable transfers. It’s so pretty!
I love Jack’s pictures. Wishing him all the best!!
Have a good vacation with your family. We’ll exist without you, though it won’t be easy. 🙂 All the best to you.
Christy says
Thank you, Caye! I think this color would be amazing on a child’s dresser! I can’t believe Jack is already done with college. I told him this morning that it really went by fast and he said, “For you, maybe!” Ha ha yes, it did for me. And thank you…I am already feeling the vacation vibes! XOXO
Ellen Shook says
That chair is ADORABLE! It would be perfect for my new grandchild in a couple of years. Too bad they live in Paris and I have no way to send her one. I used Daisy a few years ago on an old faux bamboo and cane work console that I keep on my screened in back porch. The paint has held up fabulously well! I did seal it with Gator Hide, several coats actually, just to be safe. The first time I painted it yellow, I used spray paint, and it all peel up and flaked off — a real mess. So the message here is that your paint has held up very well on a screened porch. And it does get a thorough washing every Spring after pollen season has passed! Definitely a fan.
Christy says
Thank you, Ellen! Aww that is quite a distance for sure. And I lOVE that testimonial to Dixie Belle paint! XOXO
Celia says
Oooh beach house! Love it! That’s a cutie pie chair for sure!
Christy says
Thank you, Celia! I am ready for beach mode lol! XOXO

Christy says
Thank you, Cecilia! XOXO
Nana Diana says
That chair is adorable. Perfect for a nursery or little one’s room. When my girls were babies their nursery was a sunny yellow color and it made me smile every time I walked in there.
Congrats on the two upcoming graduations and enjoy the beach!!!! xo Diana
Christy says
Thank you, Diana! I bet it did! I painted our kitchen in a similar color at our first house and every time I walked in there, I wanted to sing, “I’ve got sunshi-i-ine on a clou-oudy day!” Beach vacation here we come! XOXO
Sue at Blu says
Just darling! PS. I guessed Yellow.
Christy says
Thank you, Sue! Great guess! XOXO
