Hello, amazing friends, and Happy Trashy Treasures Tuesday!! Not only do I have a trashy makeover for you, so do my friends, so be on the lookout for their makeovers at the bottom!
Today, I’m sharing TWO pieces from my most recent Fill up the Booth Haul.
I’ve got this mirror and this bench:

The mirror was a $10 thrift store find years ago that has just been hanging around our garage, and the bench is a more recent yard sale find. It had a “Make Offer” sticker on it, so I offered $5, and my offer was accepted!
I knew exactly what I was going to do with it when I found it!
I planned to marry it to this desk, also a $5 yard sale find that I already shared the makeover of a few weeks ago:

I’ll share a reminder of how it turned out in a bit!
Prep
First up for these two smaller items was the prep!
Jack was my helper again this weekend (he’s earning a little $$ as my assistant these days), and he took the first two fabric layers off the bench for me:

The third layer seemed to be the original and the padding was in good condition, so we kept that layer on.
But the rest of the bench was in terrible shape:

That yellowing drippy paint needed to be removed in order to have a nice, smooth surface for our new paint.
Sand
So, I took my Ryobi sander to it with 100 grit sandpaper first, followed by 220 grit:

I nearly took it down to the bare wood! And I have no idea why I’m wearing a glove except I think I was originally planning to clean before sanding maybe?
CLean
That ended up being the next step. I washed it down well with White Lightning by mixing a TBSP of the concentrate (available in a ready-to-use formula now also) with a half gallon of warm water.

Wow! I just tossed that applicator pad when I was done lol.
I also cleaned the mirror frame. (Jack had removed the mirror for me.)

Bonding BOSS
The next step was Bonding BOSS. With all that color in the water, the bench was definitely going to be a bleeder!
And I was right…here it is after one coat of Bonding BOSS:

I let that dry for 24 hours. Had I been planning to paint a light color, I may have given this piece a second coat of Bonding BOSS.
Paint
I followed up with this beautiful mix of 2/3 Lucky Lavender and 1/3 Secret Path:

I painted both the frame and the bench with two coats:

Once they were dry, they both got a light sanding to smooth out the finish with these super fine sanding sponges:

Let’s pause here to take a look back at how that desk turned out, shall we?
Remember it started like this:

And here is its big makeover:

You can see the whole transformation HERE.
I didn’t have a chair or bench to match at the time, so I have been on the lookout ever since! These pieces sell better as a set.
I knew this mirror and this recent bench find would complete the set perfectly!
Back to the mirror and bench
To make the mirror coordinate with the desk, I added the same Champs de Lavende transfer to it:

Seal
Once I had the transfer on the way I wanted it, I sealed both pieces with Satin Clear Coat using a blue sponge applicator:

Let’s see how these two pieces turned out!

I wish I had the desk here to stage them with, but it is in my booth already. Can you imagine how sweet they will all be together??
I’ll be sure to take photos of them as a set when I drop these off in my shop!
When I was looking for fabric for the bench, I came across this simple gingham check at Hobby Lobby that was the perfect pairing:

I attached it with my staple gun…

Then, I made simple piping to finish it off:

You can see how to do that easily HERE.
I added that with my staple gun as well.
It just finishes everything off nicely:

And how about that mirror that has been collecting dust in our garage for years??
It is so sweet now!

I added a little silver shimmer to the details with silver gilding wax:

And looky who wandered in and plopped right down in front of my camera!

The cool tile floor probably feels so good on these hot days.
Here’s another peek at the finished desk:
I can’t wait to see them all together!

UPDATE: Here they are all together in my booth!

My friends have three more makeovers for you today!

I get to cross two pieces off from my brand new haul!

If I shared everything two at a time, I’d be done in no time lol!

I was planning to share this table today:

However, I didn’t think I was going to get it done in time since I ran into an issue, but it’s done now, so I will have it for you on Thursday!
UPDATE: It’s ready and waiting for you HERE now!
See ya then!!
XOXO,

Looks really nice Christy ,have you ever thought of having a few classes at your booth !
Christy says
Thank you, Teresa! I have thought about that, but we just don’t have the space needed, and the mall has one dinky, outdated bathroom, so rinsing paint brushes, etc would be a challenge. That would be fun though! XOXO

I started out thinking that stool wasn’t so trashy, you’d probably just even out the paint. Ha! I didn’t realize how shabby it was, and not in the chic way ???? I knew it was recovered, but 3 layers?!? I am always astonished that people can’t be bothered to remove fabric, although you sometimes make some interesting discoveries. Now it’s just adorable, Christy. I’m a sucker for gingham, so I fell for it right away and I bet it’s going to fly out the door (hopefully it’ll take the desk with it).
Christy says
Ha ha! Yes, those before photos can be deceiving. This one was in pretty rough shape! I agree about the fabric…why keep recovering the old? Although, I do like to see what’s under there lol. I’m a sucker for gingham too, so I went for that as soon as I saw it! Hoping for a quick sale now…thank you, Marcie! XOXO
