Welcome, amazing Friends! Can you believe it’s the last day of May already?? Where did the month go? Today I’m sharing a petite side table I found at an estate sale TWO YEARS ago. I have no idea why I have resisted this makeover for so long, but it probably had a lot to do with the two words excellent and condition.
It’s so much harder to find motivation for a piece that really doesn’t need “fixing”:
Am I right?
I finally decided that I just needed to get it out of the garage, and went with a simple blue makeover:
This was not an old or valuable piece, and a pretty paint job gave it a sweet new look.
This is a 50/50 mix of Behr’s Gray Morning and Pure White made into DIY chalk Paint. I followed with a little sanding and a coat of Annie Sloan’s clear soft wax. You can find my tutorial for chalk painting furniture HERE.
I love this cool coastal blue.
The glass knob was one I found on clearance a while back.
I love it for this little table.
This piece also has a unique compartment that can be locked with a key:
Just in case you want to hide your chocolate stash from your kids.
I love the leg detail as well.
I pulled this out when my close friend was looking for a night table for her daughter. I thought she would think the locking compartment was cool, but this one worked better for her space.
I never tire of seeing how paint can give a whole new look to a piece of furniture…even when it looked pretty good before.
I’ll be back on Thursday with my Get Your DIY On crew sharing what I did with this:
Our theme this month is “Outdoor DIY Projects”.
See ya Thursday! 🙂
UPDATE: Check out how this hanging basket turned out HERE now!

It looks like different piece with paint and a pretty knob. I know you were glad to check that piece off of your “to do” list.

I was so afraid to paint it, but glad I finally did. Yes! One more thing out! 🙂

This little side table really came out cute. It would be perfect in a guest room since it is small. Isn’t it amazing how many more of the details pop with paint. I didn’t even notice how cute it was when it was brown. I really love the key!!!
Christy says
Thanks, Carole! Honestly, I didn’t think paint would improve it as much as it did since it was in really nice shape already. It would be perfect in a guest room for sure! XO

Really cute Christy….I love the color and knob choices! It was a sweet little table but did need your touch. Chocolate stash how funny…I’ve had one for years and my girls are grown and gone…but then there’s the grand kids!! Enjoy this last day of May 😉
Christy says
Thanks, June! Ha ha…always have a stash ready! 🙂

I love the key feature and the leg tunings, too! Bravo for “shopping your stash” in your garage! That’s a great accomplishment- a lovely made piece, no money spent, and room in your storage area!!
Christy says
Thanks, Maggie! Yes, I am thrilled to move another piece out of that never-ending pile of projects! XO

I love this! I’m of the same school of “don’t fix it if it ain’t broke”, but this piece really benefited from a paint job. All of the details really pop now, and it doesn’t have that weird eighties orange vibe anymore. Awesome choice on the color, too. I think it was a perfect match with the style!
Christy says
Thanks so much, Jennie! I’m glad I finally just went for it…it’s much prettier now. 🙂

What a beautiful color, Christy! Is that the original key for the hidden chocolate compartment? The glass knob is gorgeous paired with this color. Very nice and pinning to share ☺
Christy says
Thanks so much, Marie! That is the original key to the chocolate compartment lol. Everyone should have a secret stash locked away, right? Thanks for pinning and sharing, my friend! XOXO
