Hello, beautiful friends! I missed you last week!! I am so ready to get back to work, but we can’t end the year without looking back at your favorites from the past year! Today, I’ll be sharing your favorite fantastic furniture transformations from 2024, and then I’ll return on Thursday with your favorite non-furniture makeovers!
How do I decide what makes the list?
It’s your commenting that decides what makes the list. I get more comments when y’all really like something, so leave me some comment love letting me know when you like a makeover so your favorites are sure to make the countdown at the end of the year!
Let’s hop right into this fantastic furniture countdown!

I always enjoy seeing what made it on the list.
I’ve linked to the original posts for each at the bottom of each makeover if you’d like to see more.
Enjoy!
13 Fantastic Furniture Transformations
13
Up first at number 13 is this oak dresser I picked up at a yard sale this summer for only $5:

The young lady I purchased it from had rescued it from the side of the road where the drawers had been scattered in the rain.
This was a stinky one, y’all, and it had all the issues!

But with some patience and TLC, I was able to make it shine again!
After making lots of repairs and sealing the musty odor in with Clear Bonding BOSS, it got fresh paint in Caviar:

It also got new hardware, including these backplates made with the SOHO Fusion Mould from Redesign and Amazing Casting Resin…

The result is a sophisticated black beauty ready to be loved for many more years!

The drawers that were once falling apart now slide like a dream!

Next up is this little chair I found at another yard sale for only $4:

It was in great shape and only needed cleaning to prep. (I clean all my furniture pieces with White Lightning.)
I chose this sunshiny Daisy by Dixie Belle paint color mixed 50/50 with Cotton to get the perfect yellow!

I then added more special detail with this Fairyland Transfer:

What a sweet piece it turned out to be with its fresh new look!
As you can see, I also added some white for more whimsy…

11
In the number 11 spot on the list is this small, dated china hutch that cost me $79 at the Habitat Restore:

I love a hutch makeover, but my old Jeep wouldn’t hold a large one. This one was more petite, so I was able to cram it in. THIS was the piece that convinced me I needed a minivan! (Best decision ever!)
I decided on Silk Mineral Paint for this one. Instead of prepping by sanding first, I chose the other option and primed with white Bonding BOSS instead, which is both a stain-blocking primer and a bonding primer:

After allowing it to dry for 24 hours, I followed up with Silk Mineral Paint in the color Salt Water for the outside and Bay Breeze for the inside:

I love this coastal combination:

10
Next up is this chest on chest dresser I got for a fantastic price at only $25:

It had a lot of wear on the stain and gaps in several places that are hard to see in the before photo:

After I filled and sanded those gaps, this dresser got a good cleaning and then a coat of Bonding BOSS in white.
Sanding these older wooden pieces often leaves them susceptible to bleeding, so the Bonding BOSS prevents that from happening.
I then chose bright white Cotton for this dresser:

I had some fun adding stripes to some of the drawers, and this makeover was complete!

Much better!

I really love the simplicity of it.
The drawers were very scratched up but applying Big Mama’s Butta to them made them gorgeous again:

Coming in at number nine is this dressing table I paid a bit more for than I wanted at $49:

This piece didn’t need much prep though, so that made up for the price!
It got a good cleaning and two coats of Fluff. This is after one coat:

I had this gorgeous Pastels Artistry transfer that I was so excited to use on it!

Here is the finished look!
How about that chair that matches so well? That was only $3!!
It started out like this:

Handsome, eh? The lines of the legs worked so well with the dressing table!

8
Number eight in this countdown is this vintage side table I found at the thrift store for an absolute steal at only $5.99:

This is likely why:

Not a problem for me! A good sanding on the top is all it needed and it was ready for its big makeover.
I did prep with Bonding BOSS in clear first to prevent any bleed through. After waiting 24 hours, I painted it in Driftwood first…

That was followed by my favorite Moonshine Metallic, Steel Magnolia. The metallics go on a bit sheer, so it’s a good idea to start with a similar chalk paint color. You could also use French Linen.
Here is how this piece ended up!

It seems any piece I paint in this gorgeous metallic ends up in my favorites countdown!

And a peek at the drawer in this one…

Next up is this antique table I found at a yard sale for $10:

Like every furniture piece I redo, this one got started with a good cleaning with White Lightning:

I spray primed this piece in Rustoleum’s flat white primer first to get a quick first coat on it. (I only do that with spindly peices like this and chairs.)
Then, because Fluff has such good coverage, I only had to paint one coat…

The piece de resistance on this table was most definitely a gorgeous decoupage paper from a three-pack of designs called Bountiful Beauty by Redesign.
I added it to the top only with the help of Redesign’s Decoupage Gel in matte and a 2″ Foam n Dandy brush:

And here she is…

Let’s see the good part!

So pretty! I loved this one so much, I kept it for myself! Here it is in our living room:

See this makeover in more detail HERE.

Number six is another piece I kept for myself that I recently reshared as my favorite Furniture Fixer Upper of the year.
It started out like this and cost me $40:

This one had been bumped around a bit…

Since I loved the size of it and the fact that it was a closed storage piece, I was really eyeing for my own space, so I set out to redo it in a style that would suit my own home.
This makeover included paint:

A transfer:

And these lovely moulds…
(That is the Josephine Mould and you can find that in my shop HERE.)
And here is how they all came together:

I was so delighted with this transformation!
The doors are more weathered than the body:

And the molds behind the hardware add such a unique detail!

I’m thrilled that I got to keep it!

See this makeover in full detail HERE.
5
At number five in our countdown is a more recent redo, one of two stunning Louis XVI armchairs I scored at the thrift store for only $9.99 each:

This one got a brand new look with paint and a new upholstery job.

It hardly resembles the old chair now!

This gingham check is one of my favorite fabrics to play with…

And of course I had to have some fun with the back:

If only I had a spot for this one!

See the full how-to for this makeover HERE.
4
This next one was started out as a $10 yard sale find that needed a whole lot of help!

I am always drawn to small bookcases. This one needed a ton of prep before I could get to painting.
I started with gray, but my plan changed and I ended up going with this lovely Farmhouse Green:

That was to match it to this super cute Froggy Meadow Greens transfer:

It turned out so cute!

What a difference a little effort can make, right??

See all the details of this one HERE.
3
At number three is a vintage bookcase I found at a yard sale in my neighborhood for only $20:

This is one of those makeovers that got a lot of love because of all the trouble it caused lol, but it did turn out pretty in the end.
I did not inspect this piece nearly enough before excitedly grabbing it up.
What I didn’t realize is that several areas of paint were peeling and chipping:

And the overall paint job just wasn’t good.
While my go-to method for removing paint is to sand, I decided instead to try a new-to-me paint remover that had been made to look SO easy to use.
It was NOT easy. I ended up with a goopy mess!

And, it took WAY too long!
And…I still ended up having to sand it…

The end result was worth it though!

Such a charming piece and so pretty in this dreamy color!

See all the details of this makeover HERE!
2
Coming in at number two, is this curvy dresser I found at the thrift store for $49:

This piece had such wonderful details, and I just knew paint would highlight them perfectly.
I chose Silk Mineral Paint for this piece, but instead of using Bonding BOSS as an adhesion primer, I opted instead to sand it all over.
It had so many scratches on the top that I had to fill that I ended up sanding the top anyway.

Once I had it scuff sanded well all over, I cleaned away any sanding dust and got to painting! I chose this gorgeous color, Smoky Mountains.
Silk Mineral Paint goes on like a dream, and the coverage I got with this color was amazing!

I ended up lightening up this color, two parts Smoky Mountains with one part Saltwater, to get a lighter color for the drawers:

Here is the final result:

I love the two-toned look for this piece!

The drawers got the prettiest coordinating fabric…

I had planned to paint this black in the fall because it had sat so long in my booth, but I’m happy to anounce that it sold in November!

See the whole tranformation HERE.

And finally, your favorite (and mine!) makeover of 2024 is this antique china hutch that I got for the best deal ever at only $40!!

This was by far my favoite find of the year, and thanks to my new minivan, I was able to buy it with confidence knowing it would fit!
It did need some help though. It had some of this going on…

And some of this…

And let’s not forget about this…

So after removing all the glass, giving everything a good cleaning, making a few repairs, and giving it a good scuff sanding, I finally got to the fun part.
I went with Silk Anchor on this one. I could only see it in black and this was it!

This one is SO good, y’all!

The lines of this peice were everything! All I did was repair it and give it a simple paint job.

Look how clean that glass is now!

What a treat this one was to breathe new life into!

See all the work that went into this one HERE.
I truly get so much joy out of seeing each piece become beautiful again!

Christy, welcome back. We missed you, too! Hope your Christmas with family time and special “you and hubby” time was wonderful.
I love that you treated us with a review of “faves.” It’s always hard to pick just one.
My picks are 13, 11, and 3. That lamp in #7 – OMG – did you make that!!?? And how did I miss it the first time around…
Can’t wait to see your beautiful creations in 2025. You are amazing!
I wish you and your family blessings of peace, joy and love in 2025. Happy New Year!
Christy says
Thank you so much, Janice! We had a wonderful week here with Christmas and our anniversary getaway, and it has me excited to get bak to it! Those are some of my favorites too and I was surprised the black dresser wasn’t further up the list. That lamp was a lucky HomeGoods find about 10 years ago, but it would be fun to recreate! Happy New Year, my friend! XOXO
Cecilia says
There’s very little of what you makeover that aren’t my favorites, lol. You always make pieces look amazing. I have a question…the side table you kept with the gorgeous paper on top – you used the decoupage gel but would modge podge work? I’m getting ready to do my table and I forgot to buy the gel. Thanks and Happy New Year!
???? Cecilia
Christy says
Aww thank you, Cecilia! I think you could use Mod Podge in Matte as long as you apply a topcoat like the Clear Coat in Satin once it has dried completely. You can always test a small piece you aren’t going to use on a similar surface and see how you like the results. Good luck and happy new year! XOXO
Sharon says
Do you ever sell and ship your beauties? I have been following you for over 12 years now. You are amazing. Your posts have gotten me through many rough times. Appreciate you so much. Keep posting and encouraging us.
Christy says
Hi Sharon! Thank you so much! That truly means the world to me. I do ship smaller items that are easy to ship like trinket boxes, small pictures, etc. Just reach out via email and inquire if you ever see something you like that is on the smaller side. XOXO
Ellen James says

MARILYN C. says
When I got up this morning and saw your email, it is the first one that I opened as I love seeing what you have done recently.
The black china hutch is absolutely gorgeous! You have an excellent eye for color in the items you are redoing and always seem to know which color and design would make it even more beautiful.
Also that little frog book case is just adorable and I love it! He is so cute and the colors are beautiful. What child would not want that bookcase in their room!
I wish you had a store in Texas which I know you are not able to do because I would love to visit it as I see so many items that I would love to have. You certainly inspire me to work on some of the projects that I need to do and your telling how to do things make it so much easier.
I remember seeing a black and white check fabric on a chair seat and that is such a beautiful item. You did another outstanding jobs on using the black and white fabric and matching it with that beautiful antique chair.
Just seeing everything that you are updating makes me motivated to do the same thing!
Christy says
Oh I love hearing that, Marilyn, thank you! It would be awesome if I could sell my larger pieces online so anyone could enjoy them, but shipping is so crazy these days. It seems the black and white pieces really catch your eye…might be time for another! XOXO
