If you’re new here, welcome! You will see I love to decorate with as little money as possible, and that means lots of thrifting, repurposing, and upcycling around here!
I last shared my living room at Christmas, and today I am sharing it all set for Spring as part of the Seasonal Simplicity Series hosted by my sweet friend, Krista from The Happy Housie.
Can we take a minute to remember what this space looked like before we moved in back in August of 2017?
I was a bit overwhelmed with how I was going to make this space ours, but it didn’t take too long.
Spring in the Living Room
Let’s start our tour with this view from the kitchen:
As you might remember, I had a tough time when I was looking for a new dining set for my kitchen. I tried to buy new, really I did.
Then I spied this pedestal table (See how I transformed it HERE.) at the thrift store and it was decided! I gave it a much-needed update, then paired it with these thrift store French Provincial chairs that I redid last year (See their redo HERE.) and loved it. To complete the set, I painted and reupholstered two cane chairs I picked up on clearance at HomeGoods. (They started out gold…see that makeover HERE.)
A simple vase of flowers says Spring in this space.
The one thing that can transform any space to feel more like Spring is greenery. A few touches here and there go a long way.
Not too long ago I shared this simple greenery wreath I made to hang on my favorite thrift store mirror…
It adds the perfect touch of Spring, and it was only $7 to make! (Find the tutorial HERE.)
So I made two more to hang on my built-ins:
I decided to bring in a little more color as well with some touches of my favorite blue. I made a couple of simple pillows to throw in the mix:
Does this fabric look familiar?
It’s the same fabric I used to line the drawers of this hutch I shared on Thursday, with fabric leftover from that Target shower curtain I scored for $3 at the thrift store! That curtain got a lot of mileage! See what else I did with it HERE…my favorite of the three!
The blue and tans keep it light and airy against my white slip-covered sectional. (Find my step-by-step sectional slip-cover tutorial HERE!) Pay no attention to those dark cabinets in the background…they are on my to-do list! Feel free to check out that Beach Rentals sign I made from an old fence panel HERE though.
My built-ins are always a work in progress. It’s not easy to style these things! I wish I had more pretty books to fill it, but books aren’t cheap, so I’ll work on that slowly…
Much of what is on them are upcycled finds, like this basket I found at a yard sale and painted:
This was part of a trio of yard sale picnic baskets I painted and embellished a bit HERE.
These bunnies were brown but I spray painted them…
This tote was a $5 thrift store find. A new handle and a pretty paint job made it a keeper:
I filled it with some faux greenery for Spring. (See that makeover HERE.)
The other side…
Also filled with upcycled treasures like this basket:
Baskets make great fillers for bookcases and add hidden storage as well.
You might remember these pretty bookends made from corbels my friend saved from the trash for me:
Now that’s a good friend! 🙂 See these and 15 more mini-makeovers HERE.
Of course I have lots of photos of my babies:
Tulips always say Spring…
Revisit my coffee table makeover HERE.
And remember that chair in the corner? It was a thrift store find that I had stashed in my storage unit for years! I finally brought it out and redid it when we moved into this house:
I used a curtain panel from HomeGoods to upholster it. See that makeover HERE.
And here is a side of the room you will rarely see…it houses my hubby’s big very brown recliner, but I wanted to share what I decided on for this wall:
I had been searching for something I could repurpose or upcycle, but I found these mirrored pieces at HomeGoods and love them for some interest on this side of the room. I also love that they reflect the light from our big window on the opposite side.
I picked up this sofa table at the thrift store as well for less than $20. A white-washed paint treatment on the top did wonders…
See that makeover HERE.
And here is where this tour started…
I hope you enjoyed the tour! Thank you to Krista for hosting this fun Spring blog hop.

Christy, Your home is beeeutiful!!! I LOVE your style! I never miss a post, but for some reason your blog posts ‘jump around’ on my computer…like something is running in the background and I can’t figure out how to stop it. Do others have this same issue? I am computer challenged 🙁 for sure.
Anyway, your living room looks great and I love how pretty all those baskets look painted, so sweet.

Love the mirror grouping. The recliner, not so much. When are you going to reupholster it, too? ????
Christy says
Ha ha thanks, Marcie! He lets me do just about anything I want around here, so I let him have is big ugly brown recliner…it’s all about compromise right? Don’t think for a second I wouldn’t hesitate to cover it if he let me though ha ha! XOXO
Jamie says
Christy, this is so beautiful! I love your home and it’s perfectly decorated for spring! I love your eating area with those ticking chairs!
Hugs, Jamie
Christy says
Thank you, Jamie! I really tried to buy a new set for our eat-in area, but I just could not find anything new that I loved for what it would cost… so glad I was able to pull it together with items that needed a little love! XO

Christy says

Jami says
Where did you get those kitchen chairs? The fabric is beautiful! Did you buy them like that or cover them yourself?
Christy says
Hi Jami! The armchairs came from the Good Will and I reupholstered them. The cane chairs are a set that used to be gold that I found at HomeGoods on the clearance. A little TLC and that fabric from Hobby Lobby made them a sweet set! Thank you! 🙂

Love the tour, Christy! When I get some things done in my house that were put on hold while I was working I will have a tour. Lots of ideas, just didn’t have lots of time! You did give me some ideas for decorating my hutch, though and your hubby can’t complain since it looks like you used lot of your funds to furnish your beautiful home!.
Christy says
Thanks, MaryJean! I don’t do tours too often, but it is fun to be able to revisit all the past projects! And yes, my hubby doesn’t complain at all…as long as he has his TV and his recliner! XOXO

Meant to say”finds”, not “funds” LOL

Michelle says
Hi Christy, I love everything about your home, the style, the colors, everything! I am wondering about a particular blue basket on your shelves to the right of the tv on the 2nd shelf. Wondering the paint color and how you achieved the time worn look of it. I follow you faithfully and love all of your makeovers. …the color looks similar to a pale blue bench by your sofa. Would love to know the color and if you did a post on how to achieve that look on baskets. Thx so much for sharing your time and talents.
Christy says
Thank you so much, Michelle!! That basket was a Longaberger basket that started out as a cradle. I found it at the thrift store for $6. I always meant to paint it and make new linens for a sweet doll to enjoy, but when I was looking for something one day at our old house to corral all of our extra cords for things, I found this and decided to try and remove the wooden pieces attached to the bottom. I grabbed this paint that I used to use all the time called Gray Morning by Behr that I already had made into chalk paint. I literally just slapped the paint on with a brush not trying to get it into every nook and cranny, then went over the surface lightly with sand paper to make it look worn. I never even sealed it with anything, and it worked perfectly for what I needed it for. I didn’t post on it, but that is basically what I did. I hope that answered your questions! It found a nice home on our built-ins, and it still holds all those old cords lol! Again thank you so much for your kind words and for following along with me! XOXO
Michelle says
Thx Christy, a Longaberger for $6! That is similar to the Longaberger I want to paint..
Thx for all the great info!
Christy says
I know, right?? They must not have known what they had. Good luck with yours! 🙂
