Welcome back, welcome back, welcome back…ha ha were you singing that? Remember Welcome Back Kotter? It’s Day # 26 in my March Madness, 31 Thrifty Makeovers in 31 Days Series, and today I’m sharing a project that was free. Aren’t those the best kind of projects?
I had this drawer leftover…
…from this dresser I shared earlier in this series:
I have two actually, but I decided to do so something with one of them and turned it into a unique shelf:
Not bad for free right?
Perfectly functional enough to hold necessities, or pretty enough to display a few treasures.
I painted this shelf in my leftover Watery by Sherwin Williams for HGTV Home, found at Lowes. I bought it originally for this laminate kitchen table.
I added paper from Hobby Lobby to the back using spray adhesive to add a little interest…
The dividers/shelves are made from scraps I already had. I cut them to fit, painted them, and used my nail gun to secure them in place.
I also filled the original holes and added a different handle that was left over from another project.
Doesn’t get better than free! 🙂
Upcycling unused items into pretty, functional pieces is my favorite. I hope you enjoyed this one too!
I’ll be back once again tomorrow to share how I upcycled one of these frames:
See ya then, my friends!

The drawer shelf is Awesome. Be cool to make a collage of drawer shelves for a kids room; well anyplace actually.
Like the saying goes; Cheap is good But FREE is better. :}
Have a wonderful and Blessed Easter weekend.

Thanks, Colleen…yes a drawer collage would be fabulous, especially in a kid’s room! Enjoy your Easter as well! XO

What did you do so you could hang the shelf?
Christy K. James says
Hi Nancy! I added saw-tooth hangers that screw in place to the back and the top on either side.

I love these simple, sweet makeovers because you create something beautiful out of something most people would throw away. You are so creative which is why you are my favorite blogger.

I love what you did with the drawer. I have been re doing the guest bath forever now and I have seen the drawers made into shelves and have really considered doing this sense storage is a problem. After seeing yours and the way you divided it I’m now on the look out for a drawer.
Christy K. James says
Thanks, Patty! This would be perfect for extra storage in a bathroom! 🙂
Treva says
Well you’ve done it again kid!!! The free drawer is just neat as can be. A really pretty addition to any room.

Happy Easter and love what you did! It is soooo much fun to repurpose things we already have lying around. The paper from Hobby Lobby is a really nice touch. When you use the nail gun, do you hold it at an angle? Just curious. Thanks for sharing!
Christy K. James says
Happy Easter to you too, Joanne! I love that I was able to make use of that old drawer. For a project like this, I held the nail gun straight or else they would have come through the wood, but for a project like our faux-coffered ceiling (https://www.confessionsofaserialdiyer.com/faux-coffered-ceiling/) where I didn’t want the boards to fall from the ceiling, I held it at an angle. 🙂

That is just so cute! What a great idea. Thanks for sharing

Thanks, Michelle! ????

Gorgeous! Makes me want to take apart a dresser I have to make one but guess I should really wait for a few yard sales! Thanks!
Christy K. James says
Thanks, Nancy! I pass up beat up dressers at thrift stores all the time and it never really occurred to me to buy any of them just for the drawers! XO
