Hello, Lovelies! Today, I have a trio of painted baskets for you. It is amazing what a little paint can do for a basket! I found all three of these at the thrift store:
Basket #1
Up first is this rather ugly one I paid $5.99 for:
Although it isn’t the prettiest basket, I liked it for some reason.
Cleaning Baskets
To clean baskets, I just give them a good vacuum to get any dust out of the weave and I do that with my shop vac.
Then, I am ready for paint!
This one got the custom mix I used on the cutest table ever HERE. I used 40% The Gulf, 40% Vintage Duck Egg Blue, and 20% Cotton:
And my very helpful assistant, Jack, painted it for me:
Then, I came back later and gave it some dry brushing with a very dry brush and white paint:
I sealed all the baskets with Clear Satin Spray from Rustoleum. It’s much easier to hit all those nooks and crannies that way, but you could totally leave them unsealed as well.

This one looks so much better to me in this fun color!
And it is a good size! I have rolled up towels in this one, but it would be great by the door to collect shoes…
Basket #2
Basket #2 was a $3.99 thrift store find:
I loved the petite size of this one. I let Jack choose the color on this one and he chose Weeping Willow:
I don’t use green often, but I do love this newish one from the Cottage Collection!
After seeing it painted, I knew exactly what transfer I wanted to add to the top, this new Froggy Meadow Greens one:
If you like frogs, this one is SO cute!
I added a couple of pieces to the top:
It seemed like it needed a little something, so I came back and dry brushed this one a bit too.
Here is the spray I used to seal all three baskets:
And here is how this one turned out:

Basket #3
And finally, this one has been sitting in my garage for what seems like a decade, except we’ve only been there seven years, but it’s been a while. So, I am extra thrilled that this one is done!
Here is how it started:
I see this style all the time at thrift stores!
This one got my favorite treatment for this color of basket, which is basically painting and wiping it back off.
I stole these photos from another post, but I did it the same on this one:
I applied a coat of Cotton really liberally with my Belle Brush:
Then, I wiped away the paint with a cloth before it had a chance to dry:
I love this look for this type of basket. The larger Best Dang Brush also makes it easy to get the paint into that weave.
And that is it, basically painting it on and wiping it off lol.
That way, you don’t have to get every nook and cranny.
Here is how this one looks now:
This will get your hands messy, so you may want to wear gloves. I didn’t take quite as much back off on this one…
So easy and I just love this look.
I did the inside the same way.
The orange weave now looks fresh and updated! 
And that’s three painted baskets complete!

This was so fun! I love them all. You can’t go wrong with distressed white, but I do love the blue and green, especially with a touch of white dry brushed on. So pretty!

If you get paint on your hands, it’s no problem.
Before you use paint, put on some hand lotion. The paint will wash right off. Just be sure not to get your hands wet or otherwise wash or wipe the hand lotion off. I do this every time I paint and it’s amazing.
Similarly, if you are working with an oil based stain, to remove it from your hands after you finish your project, coat your hands in oil (cooking oil, coconut oil, etc.) and rub. The oil will remove the oil based stain.

Oh my goodness, all three baskets are wonderful painted like that! But WOW do I LOVE the green color Jack picked, Willow Green. It’s the best color! And the transfers – that frog – ADORABLE. I absolutely adore it.
