Welcome to day #28 in this thrifty makeover series! Can you believe it’s day #28?? Where did March go? Today I’m proud to say that I eliminated yet one more thing that has been mocking me from my to-do pyramid.
It started with these old decking boards I found in the woods near my house:
I used some of them for the seat on this Headboard Bench I shared the other day:
And while they were fresh in my mind (and out from under a pile of junk that was on them ahem), I dragged out this little table I found at the thrift store easily two years ago:
I never liked the shape of the top, it’s a bit odd so I was always stumped with what to do with this table. It was one of those things I bought because it was cheap at only $10.
I decided replacing it with these old decking boards was the way to go.
Better, no?
I was able to unscrew the old top. Then I painted the base in Pure White DIY chalk paint.
I sanded and sealed with Annie Sloan’s clear wax.
I used my miter saw to cut the decking boards to the size I wanted…
Then I white-washed the decking boards like I did in this post, and sealed them with Polycrylic on both sides.
I attached them using my nail gun. I didn’t bother filling the holes…I like the character it adds.
I think it’s a big improvement!
I’ll be back tomorrow with this baby yellow dresser:
I promise it doesn’t look like a baby anymore!
See ya then!

Good morning, Christy, seeing your imagination at work is a fun start to my day. It seems to me that the top of that table was to feminine for its sturdy masculine base. Using the deck boards to make a new top was perfect.

Aww sorry, Constance! I just didn’t love it before and thought now it matched the headboard bench I just did, so I have them together in my booth. ????
