Hello, sweet friends! I’m back to today sharing a $10 vintage side table makeover. I found it at the thrift store and scooped it right on up:

And here is that lovely $10 price tag:

It’s getting harder to find a deal on furniture these days!
Clean
Like all furniture projects, I started with a good cleaning using White Lightning, mixing one TBSP into a half gallon of warm water:

I got a milky residue which is likely furniture polish build up, but I just kept cleaning it until it was no longer hazy.
While cleaning, I noticed it had a few cigarette burns:

My kids likely would have no clue what they are ha ha! One year when my sister and her son were helping me move Jack into his college apartment, we went to Walmart, and they had an ashtray. When I asked Jack and my nephew if they knew what it was, they had no clue lol.
Fill dings with Dixie Mud
There were a few more dings and scratches, so I filled everything with Dixie Mud:

Sand
Once it was dry, I sanded everything smooth…

BOSS for possible Bleed through
Because this is an older piece and has some red undertones, I went ahead and applied one coat of clear Bonding BOSS and let that sit for 24 hours to do its thing. (The instructions may say apply two to three coats as needed, but that is NOT necessary! Proper dry time is KEY, not extra coats! Rarely, have I had to go back in with a second coat.)
Paint
Before I share what color I chose, hear me out. Many of you mentioned that it would be so nice to see the antique dresser I shared on Thursday in a nursery. My immediate thought was then about how nice it would be to do a small table to match the dresser, and immediately this table came to mind!
So, with that, I painted this table in Tea Rose to match the dresser!
I don’t know why I didn’t get an in-progress painting shot, but here I am sanding it lightly after…

And of course I had to add some subtle stripes to go with the dresser as well!

The stripes are half Tea Rose and half Fluff, both by Dixie Belle.
Did you know?
If you’re new here, I am an Elite Dixie Belle Retailer and a Redesign Plus retailer, selling both lines in my Etsy shop, so I have everything you need to tackle your own dated furniture or decor project!
Everything I have new for the spring from Redesign can be found HERE! (I’ve just added four new mini decoupage papers!)

Back to this sweet table!
I gave everything another light sanding with a fine grit sanding sponge for the smoothest finish possible:

Seal
All that was left to do was seal this table, and I did that using Clear Coat in the satin finish, applying it with the blue sponge applicator:

$10 Vintage Side Table Makeover Reveal

This is a pretty unconventional color for a side table lol…

Especially with stripes on the top…

But I just love it, and it makes perfect sense next to this beauty, right?

It’s the perfect size to put beside a rocker in a nursery!

And so feminine!

One more done woohoo!!

I’ll be back on Tuesday with my Trashy Treasure ladies sharing what I did with this box:

Until then, have a fabulous weekend!

Oh so BEAUTIFUL! I would buy the dresser and the table together, they are lovely! I truly love that tea rose color! You knocked it out of the park! I could see both pieces in a nursery, but even when the little girl gets older it would still work!
Christy says
Thank you, Mary! I usually don’t sell pieces together when I make them to match, but at least they’ll be pretty in my booth together lol. I just love this color too and yes, so lovely for a sweet young lady’s room! XOXO
Janice Redden says
Christy, it’s perfect! The color was a surprise but it’s so sweet!
Christy says
Thank you, Janice! It might not have made sense on its own, but with the dresser, I think it works for sure! XOXO

Aww thank you so much, Jewels!! XOXO

Hm, nursery is not what I thought of…an elegant lady’s room, in an old Victorian house, is where my mind went. Nonetheless, the side table would work with that as well. I can picture it next to a comfortable chair (maybe off white with a furry throw), a cup of tea in a beautiful teacup, and a good book to read. 😊 so romantic. Ok, we don’t all live in old Victorians. Lol. Love it though.
Have a great weekend!
❤️Cecilia

Oh yes, I can absolutely see it in a beautiful Victorian house as well! Or at least one can pretend ha ha… your scene sounds so inviting!! I’d love to have this in my own room. Thank you, my friend! XOXO

Both pieces are beautiful. I didn’t comment on the dresser, but WOW, what a transformation. Please let us know how they sale.
Christy says
Thanks so much, Karen! I sure will! XOXO

It’s a perfect complement to the highboy. It’s really lovely. The color reminds me of Annie Sloan’s Antoinette, which I also love.
Christy says
Thank you, Lizzy! That is a great pink too! XOXO

Ewa says
Even before I saw this beautiful wardrobe below, I thought it would be the perfect complement to it. Kisses
Christy says
It did end up being such a sweet addition to make this a set, right? Funnily enough, the side table sold right away, and the dresser sold yesterday, so they didn’t even sell together ha ha! XOXO
Ewa says
It’s no wonder it’s small ,and therefore very easy to arrange .Besides , not many people like the color pink , although I admit that if I lived on your side of the ocean, I’d buy that lovely linen closet and the cute little table . Although I like pink a moderation :-)))
Christy says
I’m glad you like both pieces! The table sold almost right away and the larger piece sold just a week later! XOXO
