Happy Easter, Friends!
Last week when I shared my Romantic Flatware Box Makeover, I mentioned that one thing besides flatware boxes that I can’t pass up is a good frame. I have a huge stack of them. Today is March Madness Thrifty Makeover #27 and up for a makeover today is, you guessed it, a frame! I spotted this pair of frames and knew immediately that they would make perfect trays, and trays always sell quickly in my booth. What was even better is that they were only $1.25 each!
Here they are as I found them:
It’s hard to tell by the photo, but these frames are really deep…perfect for a tray!
To create this tray I used this metal ribbon (affiliate link) and a piece of scrap bead board.
The metal ribbon added a unique detail to the sides:
I screwed it in place with tiny screws. I purchased this metal ribbon at Michaels last year and haven’t found a use for it until now.
I sell a lot of trays with white-washed fence pickets for the base of them, so I thought I would paint the bead board to resemble the white-washed fence pickets I usually use.
I used Behr’s Sparrow as the base and then dry-brushed it with pure white.
I used my Logan Point Driver (affiliate link)to secure the bead board in place in the frame.
And how about those feet? Remember when I shared this jewelry tower earlier in this series:
I was able to unscrew the bottoms of those candlesticks I used and of course my hoarder tendencies ensure that I save everything…
Those bottom pieces made perfect feet for this tray!
I screwed them in place. I also added small round felt pads to cover the screw heads so my furniture wouldn’t get scratched.
The final finishing touch was these handles I purchased at Hobby Lobby and spray painted.
When looking for handles for a tray, look for something that can be screwed on from the outside. I hadn’t seen these on any of my trips before, but they were kind of hidden on the bottom row. I’ll be using these again.
The handles were around $5 for the pair and the metal ribbon was just a few dollars, so this was still a pretty thrifty makeover since the frame was only $1.25, and I had the bead board and feet. Now it’s a one-of-a-kind tray. 🙂
Meet me again here tomorrow to see what in the world I did with these old pieces of wood:
It’s something thrifty and it’s a makeover. 🙂
See ya then!
