Hello, sweet friends! I am moving right along in this haul bringing you a chunky side table makeover that started out like this:

I only grabbed it at the thrift store because of the low low price of $4.99!
The top was a mess:

But I did like the chunky legs! The top was actually laminate.
I’ve included a few affiliate links so you can find the products I love.
Clean
The first thing I did was give this chunky side table a good cleaning with White Lightning using a terrycloth applicator pad:

I was sure to swap out my dirty water for clean water and gave it another wipe down to remove any residue.
Sand
The top was still a mess though, so I decided to sand away any imperfections that were still remaining after cleaning, and I did that with my light duty Corner Cat sander and 220 grit sandpaper:

I sanded away any sheen, and this would also give the laminate surface some grip. (Another option would be to apply a coat of Bonding BOSS and wait 24 hours to paint.)
Paint
After vacuuming up the sanding dust and giving it another wipe down, it was time to paint!
I cheated on this one and gave it a coat of Rustoleum spray white primer first:

I rarely do that with furniture, but this table was just a cheapie little table.
Then, the bottom got two coats of Dixie Belle’s Cotton while the top got two coats of Dixie Belle’s Farmhouse Green:

I know people are already pushing fall vibes, but Farmhouse Green is one of my absolute favorite summertime colors, and I’m still in summer mode!
I’ve used it on several other projects like HERE, HERE, and HERE,
Sand Sand to smooth
I sanded to smooth once everything was dry using 220 grit sandpaper for the base and one of these fine grit sanding sponges for the top since I did not want any distressing there:

Seal
To seal, I used Clear Coat in Satin, applying it with a blue sponge applicator:

(Cutting the sides straight makes it easier to handle.)
Chunky Side Table Makeover Reveal
Here is the big reveal of this chunky side table makeover:

I love the summer vibes of this one!

The little plant stand I redid recently in these colors sold almost right away in my shop.
There is just something so fresh about this combination that really brings light to a dark, dated piece!

There is no drawer, so this piece didn’t have any pulls on it previously, but I decided to add this little glass one from Hobby Lobby:

The piece at the back is the Josephine mould from Redesign made with Amazing Casting Resin:

SO easy, and it adds so much!

And I like just a little distressing…

There is a door to the left of where I took my photos, and the sun was really picking up that bright white lol!

Hopefully, this one will sell quickly too! It’s definitely an improvement!

One more done!

It feels like I need to start shopping again!

wow, I would have never recognized this as the same piece. I love it and I’m not surprised it flew out of your shop.
Christy says
Thank you, Jackie! It such a great color, perfect for a sunny room! XOXO

Christy, so simple but so pretty!! I love the cotton and farmhouse green together!!! And, it’s amazing how much a mould and a glass pull adds to the table. I am sure it will sell very fast in your booth!! Have a fantastic weekend!!!

Thank you, Kathy! I love this color combo too, and just the small added detail on the front makes this plain piece a bit more special. Always hoping for a quick sale! Enjoy your weekend as well!! XOXO
Lisa Cooper says
Are these the same table??? Cute but I don’t know how a squat chunky table turned into a tall end table.
Christy says
The before photo is of it turned sideways. The after is with the smaller end facing forward. When I found it, because it had no drawer, I didn’t automatically think it was an end table. Adding the pull gave it a more defined purpose! XO
Janice Redden says
Christy, the table turned out so fresh and cute. At first, I thought, “What, no stripes or transfer?” But, you didn’t disappoint and added that knob and back piece…perfecf! These are the touches that are the difference between a painted piece to a posh piece!
Christy says
Aww thank you, Janice! How did you know I wanted to stripe the top?? Ha ha! In the end I did keep it more simple, but I really did want to add stripes! XOXO

Can you tell me how long and wide the finished Josephine piece is?
Christy says
Oh I just answered you lol, but in response to the mould size, it is 1 1/4″ wide X 6 3/4″ long. 😀
Josee says
I love it!
Christy says
Thank you, Josee! XOXO
Marcie Lovett says
Wait a minute, why didn’t she show that pretty little decoration in the before picture? Oh, it wasn’t there. Which also answers my question of how you would let a piece out of your garage with “only” paint 😂
Another sad eyesore that you turned into desirable decor, Christy. I’m sure it will sail out, too.
Christy says
Ha ha! Thank you, Marcie! I do like to add a few more simple pieces to the mix in my booth, but I really wanted to add stripes to the top lol! Y’all know me so well! XOXO
Cecilia says
Oh yes, much better. I love that green!
😊Cecilia
Christy says
Thank you, my friend! It is such a refreshing color! XOXO
Cyndi says
Amazing transformation! So fresh and pretty now. And I HAVE to have some green in my autumn decor and this shade would definitely work for me then, as well as springtime. 🙂 Did you paint the mould a brown first, then white or does it look dark where its distressed naturally? It’s a perfect touch on this table!
Christy says
Thank you, Cyndi! I love green in Autumn decor too! For the mould, I did the cheat distressing a bit where I dab a little darker paint on the raised details. 😀 XOXO
Michele M. says
WOW!!!!!! How is it even possible that is the same table? It is SO cute now!
And that Farmhouse Green matches your Limelight Hydrangeas perfectly! YES it isn’t even August and it is STILL summer mode and I refuse to see any fall stuff so early. Just NO. It can wait till it isn’t hot as Hades. Love it, C.
Christy says
Thank you, my friend!! Yes! This color should be called Limelight lol! I agree with you…while I’m still walking into an oven when I leave the house, I can’t think about fall decor lol! XOXO
Betty Sue says
I love finding you in my in box! This table turned out great!!!! ❤️😊
Christy says
Aww that means the world to me, Betty Sue, thank you!! XOXO
Mary Kaiser says
I had a very long day yesterday so I didn’t see your post until coffee this morning! I love how fresh this table turned out, so pretty now! So much better with the mould on the end. It has been hot here in Michigan also, we are suppose to cool down today a little. I love how this table turned out!
Christy says
Thank you, my friend! I’m so glad you had time to stop by! The weather has been so much cooler that past two days…it has been absolutely lovely! I hope it has been for you as well. XOXO
