Let’s start with this very simple flatware box I picked up at the thrift store in 2023 for $6.75:

This one got an update with paint and a transfer that is sadly, no longer available.

The Inside
The interior started out like this:

And here is how the inside looked when I was done:

But wait, there’s more! I also added this black and white gingham transfer to the sides of the drawers:

Such a fun makeover, and I love all the elements paired together.

At the number two spot on the list is this box that I also I picked up for $6.75:

It got a an elegant makeover using the Elegant Lace Stencil:

The Inside
The inside in its brown velveteen glory:

And after…

Much better!

This next one was my very first makeover of 2024!
It cost me a whopping $2.50:

This one is probably the saddest of this collection.
It wasn’t much at all before, but paint and the Blossom Botanica transfer did wonders:

The inside
The inside wasn’t much better before:

Someone had already started removing the lining.
And a peek at the after…

This fabric was once a Walmart curtain panel…I found it at the thrift store too!

It doesn’t seem like I redid this one that long ago, but it is from March of 2024:
I loved the shape of this one and it was only $4.98 at the thrift store.
It got a very elegant makeover!

Caviar and the Perfume Notes Transfer breathed new life into this one!

The Inside
The Inside before was this bold blue which I’ve never seen before or since:

And here is the new look of the interior on this one:

I used this pretty Waverly fabric once again.

Next up is this box I found for $5.99 at the thrift store:

We had just gotten in some new Belles and Whistles decoupage papers, and I knew I wanted to use one of these gorgeous decoupage papers from the Chinoiserie set on this box.
And I did just that:

Of the three papers in this set, I chose this one:

The inside
The inside was this lovely brown before:

Although it was in pristine condition!
Here is how I redid it inside to match the updated exterior:

Much better!

At number six is this box that I picked up for $4.99:

This one got a new lease on life with Sawmill Gravy and the Pastels Artistry Maxi Transfer:

Such pretty neutrals!

The Inside
The inside before was this regal red:

I toned that down with this neutral fabric:

And finally, at number 7, is this flatware box that got a more bold makeover back in February:

$5 seems to be the average rate for these boxes, and this one was right on target at $4.99.
I went a bit more bold on this one using Cottage Door and the Blushing Blooms transfer:

The Inside
The inside of this one was this plum color before:

And here it is now:

I actually already had this fabric in my stash, and it was a perfect match!

I’m glad you enjoyed them again, Cecilia! The sale starts this Saturday through Monday, but I’ll send a little reminder Saturday morning! XOXO
Cecilia says
Great! I need all the reminders I can get, lol. Hope I can find what I want!
Bev says
Love them all! But the BLACK ONE!! Be still my heart!!
Curious if you ever redo the stand up boxes with the necklace hanger. I have 2 of those.
Christy says
Thank you, Bev! I have only done one of those before but they have so many tiny parts that need to be carefully painted as not to get paint on the lining, that I decided that one was enough lol. It wasn’t as tall as the ones you probably have, but you can see that one here if you like:https://www.confessionsofaserialdiyer.com/painted-thrift-store-jewelry-box/ XOXO
Jane Greene says
Love this post! I’ve been on the hunt for one to transform into a tea caddy for my copious supply of tea bag varieties. This post will help me with transforming the exterior.

I always love your flatware box makeovers. Thanks for the updated inspiration. I actually saved them, this time, to my Pinterest board. Going to look through my small fabric pieces for inspiration on how/where to start on getting the rest of my stash of boxes done. Can’t wait to see what your latest haul brings.
