Who’s up for a fantastic quickie decor project today? Hello, lovelies! I’m back with an upcycled picture frames project that is super easy! I found this set of frames at the thrift store for such a bargain at only $1.99 each:

They are super chunky and have a nice weight to them.
I started by removing the support piece that was on the back of both frames:

Clean
After removing the glass, I gave them both a quick cleaning with White Lightning:

Other than being dusty from sitting in the garage, they were in pretty good shape.
I’ve included a few affiliate links so you can find the products I love.
Spray Prime
I spray primed them with Rustoleum spray primer just to get a quick base on there:

Paint
For this set, I chose one of Dixie Belle’s newest chalk mineral paint colors, Gardenia:

Dixie Belle has a bunch of whites to choose from…here’s a breakdown of them all:

Cotton
Fluff
Magnolia
Buttercream
Gardenia
Dropcloth
Ecru
Cucumber Ice
Gardenia has a tiny touch of gray in it.
Seal
I took the easy way out and also used Rustoleum, but in the clear satin, to seal.
New Botanical Art
I decided to create new art with this these frames, and as a background, I cut a piece of white foam core to fit each one using the glass as a guide:

I painted those pieces using Fluff by Dixie Belle, first going one direction…

And then the other direction once that first coat dried:

This will give the background kind of a linen look.
Adding the Botanicals
To create my new art, I enlisted the help of this Greenery Grace transfer from Redesign:

Transfers are often limited run only, so this transfer may no longer be available if you are visiting long after the original post date. Visit my shop HERE to see all the transfers I currently have in stock.
I cut most of the pieces apart and started arranging until I got a look I liked:

I ended up not using both fern pieces on that bottom one because the art seemed larger than the other, but I like it here!
Once I had them complete, I added them and the glass back to the frames.
To hide the ugly backing, I covered it with kraft paper using matte Mod Podge:

I also added sawtooth hangers to hang them…

Upcycled Picture Frames Big Reveal
Here is how they turned out!

These would make a lovely addition to any space…

I removed the glass so there is no glare for the photos, but I did add it back.

So pretty, right?

And so simple!
There are still a ton of pieces left from this transfer to use on other projects.

Here’s a closer look at the frames…

So pretty!

Almost there!!

Wow they are so pretty! I love how they turned out. You have such a good eye for arranging the transfers so they flow nicely an are just perfect! Simply beautiful!
Christy says
Thank you, Mary! It did take a bit of playing to get a layout I liked, but there are so many pieces to play with! Have a fantastic day! XOXO

I like the way you cleverly used the transfers to create pictures that you would probably spend quite a bit of money for if you bought something like that in a store. I love that shade of paint also and I enjoy all of your creative ideas. Looking forward to doing a number of projects this winter and I will keep following you.
Christy says
Thank you, MJ! This is a great shade if you prefer more muted whites. Thanks for following along with me! XOXO
Cecilia says
Those frames are so pretty in their new color. Such simple way to, to make some pretty artwork. Great job as always!
Christy says
Thank you, Cecilia! Yes, so simple! XOXO

I have wondered about using foam core for something like this. I guess you have to be careful not to press too hard on it, right? These sure turned out pretty! Great score on those frames!
Christy says
Thanks, Cyndi! Yes, you can’t press too hard or it can dent. I used a brand new stick and burnished with light but steady pressure, and it did well! XOXO
Caye says
Just a simple, sophisticated “something” nice for that hard to fill area. Good job on the selection of the transfers, too. I like your style!
Christy says
Thanks so much, Caye! I love an easy project! XOXO

Lovely. However, I think I would have used an aging or antiquing wax or a glaze on the frames to show all that wonderful detail.
Christy says
Thank you, Tina! That would have been lovely too! XOXO
Colleen says
These look so good! I love how you used multiple transfers and overlapped them. I get so many great ideas from you!
Christy says
I’m so glad to hear that, Colleen, thank you! XOXO
Mary says
So classic and classy now, Christy. Just beautiful!
Christy says
Thank you so much, Mary! XOXO

Really Pretty. I LOVE those frames! I bet DB cucumber ice would’ve been pretty as a background too. I want to see you use that color on something. Maybe stripes of cucumber ice over Willow or even white. Lol You know me and green by now. Betcha someone will snag these quickly!
Christy says
Thanks, Jackie! Ooh yes, Cucumber Ice would have been perfect with those botanicals! Funny you should mention that…I used Cucumber Ice on this bookshelf a little while back, striping it with Weeping Willow lol. Have a lovely weekend! XOXO

Oops… I paired it with Farmhouse Green. 🙂
