One of the things I always look for when I’m thrifting is mirrors. Updating them is simple, and they sell well for me. Beautiful friends, I have not one, but TWO mirror makeovers for you today!
Mirror Makeover #1
The first mirror makeover I have for you is a Bombay Company mirror I found for $6.99 at the thrift store:
I’ll be honest, I didn’t love this one, but it was well made and it was solid…not to mention, it was a great price!
I removed the mirror to make it easier to paint and this mirror is quite heavy, so that made it easier to handle as well.

Clean
Both mirrors started with a good cleaning with White Lightning. I like the concentrated powder version, mixing one TBSP with a half gallon of warm water.
A terry cloth applicator pad is perfect for this step:
Be sure to rinse your piece with clean water to remove any residue. Gloves are recommended.
Paint
There was no need to prime with Bonding BOSS since the finish was intact and it wasn’t that old, so I was able to go straight to painting.
I’ve been trying new colors lately, but I decided to go with a very simple Cotton, Dixie Belle’s brightest white for this one:
The seams all around the frame kind of reminded me of shiplap, and I thought white was the way to go.
It took three coats for solid coverage.
Sand
I sanded all over to smooth and highlight the details.
Seal
To seal, I used Best Dang Wax in clear, applying it with the La Petite brush:
Wax is great for smaller pieces that don’t require the toughest protection.
I then buffed in the wax and removed the excess with a clean, soft cloth:
I reassembled the mirror and this project was complete except for making the back pretty with this patterned Kraft paper:
Mirror Makeover #1 After
Here is how the first one turned out:
I didn’t realize how much the flowers hid the frame until I was editing the photos lol, but you can still get the idea.

I like to add hooks to solid wood mirrors to add more function like I did HERE and HERE.
These started out like this:
I found them at Hobby Lobby on sale 50% off and painted them white also…
This would be great by the door to hold keys, leashes, lanyards or whatever else…
Mirror Makeover #2
The second mirror I have for you was $10, and it came from the same yard sale where I found this pretty glass door cabinet, this sweet antique chair, and this gorgeous antique china cabinet.
You could say that yard sale made my day!
This one came with very weird faux distressing. It really just looked like someone had rubbed it all over a tire.
Unfortunately, I was unable to remove the mirror on this one since it was glued in place:
Paint
So after cleaning, I got right to painting in this lovely 50/50 Vintage Duck Egg Blue and Cotton mix:
I love Vintage Duck Egg Blue, but I love it even more lightened up a bit.
I did two coats and then sanded lightly all over.
The excess paint was scraped away with a razor blade.
Seal
Then I sealed the same as the first with Best Dang Wax in clear.
Mirror Makeover #2 After
Here is how mirror #2 turned out:
With all that detail, all this mirror needed was paint!
It doesn’t look dirty anymore!
I actually love it paired with my white staging dresser…

I love your mirror makeovers!! My favorite one is the oval mirror with the beautiful vintage duck egg blue. The details are so pretty. I do like that you added the extra hooks to the other mirror.
